one.

hundred and ten. i think.

Kaderin Triste 11-21-2018 01:38 AM

Haha...oh is that all? XD

trystan830 11-21-2018 01:39 AM

actually yeah. it's only 53,085 words, so says the NaNo word count thing. most romance novels are more than that.

Quiet Man Cometh 11-21-2018 05:30 AM

Brain is too tired to actually list stuff but you have an interesting year list there, Kaderin. I've read a couple, seen a couple through films, and recognize more authors than books I think. I know that "The Killing Joke" is supposed to be a pretty big deal as far as comics go. Written Alan Moore I notice as well.

I've dodged romance stories, though my mom assures me that a lot of them are actually quite good and the cover is usually something silly that in all likelihood has nothing to do with the actual story. She would also say that the cover guy looked the same on every book regardless of how the actual character looked. She was right. It was Fabio. Hee hee.

I could review that thing for you, though I've never read anything actually called "romance." Can't speak for time but I don't have any review obligations for now.

trystan830 11-21-2018 11:25 AM

actually, yes, romance novels to have what i call "the real plot" in addition to the sappy romantic stuff. and depending on which overall plot (the "pursuit" plot vs the "married on page 3 and now we have to learn to love each other" plot), that determines how may actual love scenes are in the book. now, this may have all changed since i read all those romance novels (which was mostly before i got married. huh. okay then.)

and sure, quiet, if you want to give it a read, you can. all but my first NaNo (2011) is in my google docs, actually

Quiet Man Cometh 11-21-2018 10:32 PM

Ah. Are they more or less complete or are you still editing?

trystan830 11-21-2018 10:47 PM

they're more or less complete... but i'm sure they need editing XD

Quiet Man Cometh 12-02-2018 01:13 AM

December's book may be finishing up the other books I started this year but haven't finished. I'll still be over twelve though!

Is it too early to start the 2019 thread? I need to start making my list! I guess I can just start it here and move it over come January.

trystan830 12-02-2018 01:21 AM

hmm, i made this post last year on december 24th... but maybe this year i'll start it about the middle of the month

Kaderin Triste 12-02-2018 01:28 AM

I keep forgetting to read books. XD
Just craft and sleep and work. But I have made a tiny bit of progress in a few books, I just haven't updated my list in a while.

trystan830 12-02-2018 01:32 AM

well, nano is over, so i'm back to reading books again. XD

Quiet Man Cometh 12-02-2018 02:41 AM

My nano wasn't too successful for word count but I did get something done.

My only thought about opening the 2019 thread early, is that this one would probably get abandoned, though it would give people time to set lists. Just no starting until January 1st. ;)

trystan830 12-02-2018 02:47 AM

yaay for getting something to be done!

hmm, true. but no, not jan 1st XD

Quiet Man Cometh 12-02-2018 03:01 AM

I mean no starting on challenges until January 1st. The reading part.

trystan830 12-02-2018 03:02 AM

oh, right, i knew that. good point.

XD

Quiet Man Cometh 12-03-2018 06:54 AM

I have de-secreted the two books on my list that were secret. More YA reading.

trystan830 12-03-2018 03:02 PM

ooh secret reading! are they ARCs?

Quiet Man Cometh 12-04-2018 05:49 AM

I actually don't know what "ARC" means but I see the word enough. They are books for Reading Link Challenge. Now that the list is made public, I can say what they were.

trystan830 12-04-2018 12:42 PM

an ARC is an Advanced Reader Copy. i've never had one myself for any book, but i believe they're sent to people to read and write a review before the book is available everywhere.

but yours is cool too. =)

Quiet Man Cometh 12-07-2018 07:44 AM

Ah! I do in fact have one of those. I didn't know it was supposed to be a secret though. Oops.

I'm going to have to start building my list. It's going to take me a while. I have books in two locations that need reading.

Kaderin Triste 12-07-2018 03:01 PM

XP I should really try to finish 2 more books at least!
I keep forgetting how close to the end of the year it is!
*transfers all in progress books to next year's list*

trystan830 12-07-2018 11:47 PM

not sure if ARCs are supposed to be secret or not.....

Quiet Man Cometh 12-08-2018 07:25 AM

I've reviewed a couple books that were pre-release, and some that I think were just to pad up existing reviews. I think everything is out now though, minus one not showing up until next year.

I'm getting over-Christmasy and have decided to wrap my tbr list and shelve them like that, so that when I go to read my next book, I won't (maybe) know exactly which one I'm grabbing and I read whatever I open. I've wrapped three books leftover from school, and when I get home it will be all the fiction I bought but haven't read.

trystan830 12-08-2018 03:59 PM

i'm still reading a Richard Castle book. i'm not sure if i'll finish it first, or i'll get a book i requested from the library =)

Quiet Man Cometh 12-10-2018 02:54 AM

Suddenly decided to be more Danish and was reading parts of my left-over Karen Blixen reading from school, but I'm not really sure where to go besides keep reading my half-finished things.

Quiet Man Cometh 12-12-2018 05:08 AM

LibraryThing has a blog out of people's best 5 books read in 2018. Here's my list (even though two of them aren't finished).

Where the Red Fern Grows
My Friend Dahmer
Mary Who Wrote Frankenstein
VAS: An Opera in Flatland
Tales From the Inner City

do you know, i've never read Frankenstein?

also, Mary Shelley and i have the same birthday XD

Quiet Man Cometh 12-14-2018 11:53 PM

It's probably not what most people think it is, going by the usual media thing. No Igor, now "It's alive! Mwahahahaha!" and a lot of "Oh $%&@..."

trystan830 12-15-2018 12:37 AM

yeah, it's okay. but i do want to read it. =)

Merskelly Metalien 12-15-2018 01:58 PM

I was actually reading Frankenstein and got through it nearly halfway! Quiet Man Cometh is right, it's actually a strangely tragic and beautiful story that is really nothing like what movies and media have used the title for. I want to finish reading it, but...>->; I flippy flop into other books and things and never got back to it. My poor copy of it has pressed pages thanks to my bookmark being in there so long.
I cannot recommend it enough if you enjoy old literature and gothic atmosphere. :3

trystan830 12-15-2018 02:22 PM

thanks for that insight, Merskelly! maybe i'll get round to reading it in 2019.

trystan830 12-20-2018 01:50 PM

i promise sometime in the next week i'll get off my laxy butt and post a new thread for the 2019 reading challenge! =)

Kaderin Triste 12-20-2018 08:16 PM

*prepares to copy and paste all partially read books to the new list*
XD
I doubt I'll finish any more books this year, but if I don't take any chainmaille or loom supplies, there's a slim chance I could finish one or two more during my annual Christmas "kidnapping".
XP

trystan830 12-20-2018 11:25 PM

i might finish my current book.... maybe XD

Merskelly Metalien 12-21-2018 04:04 AM

x) Same. Ha.

<-<; *stares at all my neglected collection of ghost stories from afar* hmmmmyeahhhh..I'll get back to reading...next year.

trystan830 12-21-2018 11:50 PM

well i'm still reading it... but i'm also crocheting stuff, it's what i like to do. so ... XD

Kaderin Triste 12-22-2018 01:42 AM

#same
Except loom knitting

Kaderin Triste 12-27-2018 01:52 AM

Well, not much of the year left, but I finished another book (woo 10/20 done!) and might just be able to finish 1 more if I postpone my loom knitting until next week.

trystan830 12-27-2018 12:14 PM

i actually need to update that book i'm reading in my sig.... it's The Raging Storm by Erin Hunter....

edit: updated
