Oh, that sounds good.

Also, I forgot about my PS1 games. Some of those get up around 50 bucks for complete, opened copies in good condition, which is what most of mine are.

As a rule, the NES/SNES games I didn't like as a child are going to be easier to sell. Which is a shame, but I thought those equipment charts in the early Dragon Warriors were the most awesome thing ever when I was 6, and consequently... they're in tatters. :(

CupcakeDolly 06-08-2011 08:47 PM

If I remember correctly it's about a 10% fee for ebay. My boyfriend made friends with a guy who makes a living by selling stuff on ebay, and there's some things that he won't even touch because the final profit won't even be worth all the hassle.

Flat-rate boxes and envelopes at the post office are free, and shipping depends on the weight - estimate about $5 per pound.

Suzerain of Sheol 06-08-2011 08:51 PM

Hmm. Well, I'll have to investigate more. I'm not looking to get rich anyway. Honestly, the only reason I even want money at the moment is to donate for Runes. :p

CupcakeDolly 06-08-2011 09:09 PM

Oh noes! The runes have cast their spell on you! =P

Suzerain of Sheol 06-08-2011 09:11 PM

I wonder if it's better to sell separately or in bundles.

Like, I have all 4 Dragon Warrior games, plus the guide to 4. Likewise, all three Ultima games on the NES and one of the guides.

Quiet Man Cometh 06-08-2011 11:35 PM

Buyers (like me ;)) tend to like it better if you multi-pack or combine shipping. Shipping and handling charges seems to be where most people stuff the extra costs, to the vexation of the people buying things. Seriously, flat leather wallet (more like a billfold) 99 cents to buy, shipping costs $10.00. Mean.

Bundling would mean less work I imagine, and possibly less of a ding from ebay depending on how the math works.

Suzerain of Sheol 06-08-2011 11:52 PM

Yeah, I'm planning to sell in bundles where I can. Someone sold the same Dragon Quest set I mentioned above for $168.00, but I imagine it was in better condition. I'll have to be a bit more modest, I think. Still, 1 is virtual worthless, as is 2, and 3 and 4 together aren't worth that much it seems. So people must be willing to pay extra for the whole set.

I'm definitely going to sell my guides with their respective games, since that seems to sweeten the deal in most cases. Hell, the Chrono Trigger guide goes for 40 to 50 bucks on its own.

I was kind of surprised when I searched for completed auctions and saw that people are actually buying them at these prices. I figured those would be just be wish-thinking on the sellers' parts in the listings, but in most cases, it seems to be accurate. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Quiet Man Cometh 06-09-2011 12:03 AM

Put your 'wishful thinkig' price in the "buy it now" section and auction. Some people like expediency over price. I usually go for that if the auction pushes in the vicinity of the BIN price, or if the auction is long and wont be around to check. Depends on how much I want the item in question of course. I have extra copies of Pokemon red and blue which apparently go for $25-50 each, though these are in pretty shoddy condition. Still functional though. My copy is near pristine, but I'm anal about my games. All must be pristine!

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 12:21 AM

Ah, yeah, I do shop a lot on eBay (get most of my clothing and accessories from there), I've just never sold anything before. I think my mother has, so she can help me if I run into trouble, which I hopefully won't.

Quiet Man Cometh 06-09-2011 06:37 PM

I have stuff to get rid of. I think I'm just going to go the easy route and toss them via EB Games and other local game stores. Likely wont get as much value for them but it gets them out of my living space.

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 06:51 PM

I know that if I'm going to get rid of my collection it's not going to GameStop >> Besides I don't think they will take NES games anymore xD If I wasn't so desperate for money I wouldn't be considering this at all even.

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 06:55 PM

I don't think Gamestop takes even PS1 games anymore, let alone NES stuff. Unless they changed their policy since I last checked, which was a few years ago.

Quiet Man Cometh 06-09-2011 07:02 PM

Option B is always online selling of course. Gets rid of the stuff with no ebay to deal with, but means people coming to your house that you may not want there, or going out to meet said people. I suppose I could give a ebay a try, but I suspect the money would end up in my paypal account and never leave, getting spent on stuff I buy from Ebay.

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 07:09 PM

Or Runes! :D

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 07:10 PM

Anything I make would be going to my bank account to pay bills or repay some debts. As it is right now I'm probably going to have to ask for money from my parents again, and I really don't want to do that since I haven't been able to pay them anything from the last loan they gave me -.-

Someone hire meeee >>

Quiet Man Cometh 06-09-2011 07:16 PM

Rune would be good! Then maybe I can bribe a kitsune out of somebody.

I need a job too Serra, but I have other things to do at home at the moment so not having a job is fairly convenient at this time. Doesn't help on the money end though. Selling off a bunch of my game stuff though I'm not sure how much I can expect for most of it. Sigh.

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 07:19 PM

Totally unrelated, but Quiet, I just programmed you cameo/credit into my game, and I must say, it's rather hilarious.

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 07:20 PM

Yea having no job is convenient for me too but I really do need some income. Or a doctor to finally find out what's wrong with me so I can get some help that way. Either one would work but I'm sure the latter isn't going to happen.

Quiet Man Cometh 06-09-2011 07:39 PM

Should I be concerned about that, Sheol?

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 07:41 PM

What, I don't get a cameo too? :p

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 07:50 PM

It was mostly a credit, since she helped me find a solution to an issue I was having. And... for all the things that that engine can do, credits are, strangely enough, not one of them.

Maybe after you test it for me, Serra. ;)

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 07:56 PM

Yay you can name one of the cats after me, maybe xD I am still excited to get to try your game Suzerain :3

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 07:58 PM

I'm doing a lengthy test-play now, which means most of the work should be done besides just polishing it up for a release. Still hoping for this weekend, though working out the kinks of actually distributing it might take a bit longer.

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 08:16 PM

That's okay, it's not like I'm at a loss for things to do...

Still excited to play your game though xD

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 08:24 PM

More excited than I am at the moment...

*Start game.* *Play for five seconds.* *Find something to fix.* *Exit game* *Fix* *Start game.* and on and on.

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 08:27 PM

And now you know why games sell for $50-60 each, with all the work you're doing on yours xD

Quiet Man Cometh 06-09-2011 08:27 PM

That what Beta versions are for ;). But you are very gentlemanly to sort this stuff out yourself before presnting it online.

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 08:30 PM

I suppose, but a few little errors in coding here and there can make the entire thing unplayable, so I don't want to waste my time uploading it. I'm sure I won't catch all of the little things (especially typos, but I try hard with those, too). And there'll always be room to refine the balance of the game.

And... damn, the first boss is nasty. Beatable with the right strategy, but ouch. Yes, I'm getting killed by my own game. :|

Quiet Man Cometh 06-09-2011 08:38 PM

That's okay. I loose to myself a surprising number of times when I play games or card games that normally require two people. I'm never sure how I should feel about that.

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 08:50 PM

Yes, but how often do you end up thinking of your recent loss and wondering if there's an imbalance in the game, or if you're just pathetic at it? :p

Quiet Man Cometh 06-09-2011 09:03 PM

When I'm playing myself it's hard to decide. How do you think your own DnD character would fare against some of the dungeons you make?

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 09:15 PM

I think I could win most of my dungeons, if only for knowing what was coming. DnD lends itself well to strategy. I'd hate to go through one blind, though.

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 09:52 PM

Oki, Suzerain, if you're dying on the first boss that you know how to beat I'm kind of worried xD

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 10:15 PM

He's actually sort of an end-game boss, given that it happens in one of those flashback to high-level party sort of deals.

I imagine it'll be ever harder on the player thanks to the multitude of skills on each character that they haven't encountered yet, but that's why I'm making a Boss Guide. :)

Quiet Man Cometh 06-09-2011 10:29 PM

Or it will be like Devil May Cry, where the satisfaction of killing the first boss pretty much carries you through the rest of the game. Especially when you're the only one of your friends who's been able to do it! :D

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 10:34 PM

Oh, that reminds me of that game, Lufia. The game starts you with a high level party to fight the bosses, and you find out it was events that took place a rather long time ago when you finish that segment.

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 10:41 PM

...Lufia might be one of Suzerain's favorite games... *shifty eyes*

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 10:59 PM

Makes me wonder if you picked the Treasure Cavern clean on the second one...I tried myself I REALLY did but I'd always make a mistake sometime around floor 80 and die >< A friend did show me the final floor once along with the "I dunno how to kill it" boss...

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 11:43 PM

I actually only played the first one (I think it was the first one. Fortress of Doom, or something?) I always wanted the second one, but it was prohibitively expensive everywhere I could find it.

Oh, and kind of random, but speaking of game prices earlier, I still have the original receipt from my copy of Final Fantasy 3 (6) for the SNES, coming to a total of %73.16 for just the game. Did games really go for that much back then? I would usually get them as gifts, so I have no idea.

Quiet Man Cometh 06-09-2011 11:50 PM

As far as I remember, the $80 games didn't start coming around until Playstation, but I didn't pay too much attention then. We didn't get an SNES until Donkey Kong Country came out. Can't remember the price for that. The package was a couple hundred dollars though, more than my DS or Playstation 2 Slim.
