Hahaha

It's beautiful but you have to get use to different lingo. XD

I remember coming over and hearing someone calling someone a cow.. I thought they meant the animal till my mom said, that means whore.. I was like, whoa..

Red Calypso 05-03-2012 07:29 PM

Cow means whore in Scotland? Geez...

Dawn 05-03-2012 07:45 PM

Yep and a fag is a cig. XD

Also the accent sometimes makes it harder to understand what someone is saying.

Gallagher 05-03-2012 07:59 PM

I swear, I don't know where you lived before, because where I am in the states, calling someone a cow is a pretty common insult with about that meaning... And pretty sure cow still means cow, too, over there.

Differences in accents and vernacular and such always interest me.

Looks like Neirra needs 200 Runes for some pretty Yearly items. D<
I guess I'll have to post like a maniac to get them!~

Red Calypso 05-03-2012 08:04 PM

I've always thought cow was a reference to an overly top-heavy build myself...

nyreen 05-03-2012 08:05 PM

Wait someone here lives in Scotland?!

Dawn 05-03-2012 08:09 PM

I lived in the country/small town and I never heard any American person call a female a cow unless they were saying the female was fat.

And don't give someone from Scotland the V sign, it means the same as the middle finger in America.

Ah, there's many different dialects, all depending what area of Scotland your in. My mate has a hard dialect sometimes to work out while my next door neighbour's daughter, I can make out every word she says.

Red Calypso 05-03-2012 08:11 PM

Neirra, at least two do.

Dawn 05-03-2012 08:12 PM

XD

How everyone perks up when Scotland is mentioned.

Gallagher 05-03-2012 08:15 PM

... I know more slang than I should probably admit to. Granted, that doesn't mean I can use it worth a shit.

Some've the jank I hear 'round these parts is right trifflin'. A good amount of mixing and matching, especially if you keep company with different ages, it can be strikingly different. Gettin' harder to find folks with a strong native accent, too. Mine's a lot more Southern than the rest've my family, but even then it fades in and out a bit.

nyreen 05-03-2012 08:19 PM

OHHHH SCOTLAND. <3
My grandparents are from Aberdeen, Scotland. They have accents and they are the sweetest people to have ever lived on this planet, I love them so much. ; A;

Yea.. when you live in a city or places where you have more different backgrounds, than you pick up on different slang. Where I lived, I only saw maybe one or two other Scottish people and my mom wasn't going to teach me much in the ways of Scottish slang. Through, probably would of been fun to call someone at my HS bugger and have them not know what the word meant.

A lot of people tell me I have an American accent but I am sure when I go back, my accent will be a mix of American/Scottish.

-Lays on the floor- My mind has been raped by a final. I studied, and NOTHING I studied was on the test. Figures.

Gallagher 05-03-2012 09:26 PM

Figures indeed. Someone probably needs to be slapped for that.

Lioshika 05-03-2012 09:31 PM
