Just realized I'm gonna need to wash all my fabrics before I do anything with them...
May have to try smuggling them in to use the washing machine at the museum... >.>
(Tbh, that's mostly how I've been washing my work clothes ever since the landlords switched out to the bluetooth/app run machines...just throw a pair of jeans and black shirt(s) in with a load of cleaning and dish rags.)

Or maybe I can just hit a laundromat on Saturday if I can dig up enough quarters...

In other craft news, have decided to pick up some silver holographic vinyl to do some experiments with to test durability and maybe do some holo scale fingerless gloves later if it works...

Death by Mirrors 07-19-2019 09:08 AM

That'd be awesome. I mean, it has galaxy... and sharks... *_*
We have only one store that sells fabric (two if you count IKEA's home decor department) and most of it is either folklore stuff with edelweiss or something grandma would use. That, and cheap looking polyester for children's costumes.

Kaderin Triste 07-19-2019 09:13 AM

Well shit. For sure I need to send you fabrics! O.o
Granted, other than overpriced af specialty quilt shops, JoAnn is the only fabric store here, but we have a lot of really cute fabrics.

Edit: What is the smallest amount of fabric you would want/could use?
Mainly curious because after taking measurements, idk how much shark fabric, if any,I'll have left...

Death by Mirrors 07-20-2019 03:28 AM

Yeah, it drove all other stores out of business with cheap prices years ago, and then suddenly it became ridiculously expensive, charging around double of what it did when there was competition. Which is why I actually buy from IKEA far more often, even though that's technically a furniture store (I love ikea's cotton - easy to sew and affordable, albeit only solid colors).

The edelweiss stuff sells quite well here, because most female sewers tend to make tailored Dirndl dresses and similar traditional costumes, whereas they usually buy ready made everyday clothes. Both our community college and the community sewing room that sadly closed down some time ago had dirndl classes, neither offered quilting.

I'd say the smallest is around 4 inches maybe. Not that I wouldn't use smaller scraps if I have them lying around, but half-an-inch pieces sound hardly worth mailing (especially with international postage).

Kaderin Triste 07-22-2019 03:00 PM

I should look up a dirndl dress. I know I've heard of them, but can't picture them.
If this country wasn't so bassackwards, I'd say you should totes move here and we could take quilting classes together. XD
There are a few specialty quilt shops as well as a quilting guild here and I think all of them offer classes. But quilting isn't my top priority, so it'll probably be a few years before I really start looking into it...

And that's good to know. Will probably save up fabrics to ship a decent amount so the shipping cost will be more worth it rather than just sending a few pieces...

"I asked mama if I could buy you some fabwic today!" Derpy hugs your ankle.

Death by Mirrors 07-26-2019 06:23 AM

Aww, that's so cute, Derpy! You're making me blush *hugs back*

Anyway yeah... I would probably even consider a move, but not to such a bassackwards place - though I imagine it could be lots of fun if we lived in the same town and have all sorts of creative meetups! (I'm sure Derpy would love my chocolate cake, the one I accidentially invented because I translated one of the ingredients wrongly). We can teach each other new crafts or inspire each other in well known ones. Debate which ice cream flavor is the best in this $%§@ heat while actually trying samples. And tons of other stuff. Do you like karaoke? Themed parties? Ninja Turtle tv marathons?

KittyBeary 07-26-2019 07:39 AM

I made my first circle skirt! I'll have pics later. ouo

Tbh, despite the country itself having some issues, where I live is actually fairly rural compared to a lot of places even though it's one of the biggest cities in the state. I tend to just ignore the news and enjoy life. >.>
Plus, views like this https://youtu.be/c7XYzOd8R0I are easy to find within a good 30 minute drive. Some are 100% shots from the glacier park region, which is I think maybe 5 hours from where I live, so could be done in a day trip, but better for a camping trip if you want to see all the good places and do some hiking.

Heck yes, crafting and ice cream and cake! I'm not a fan of karaoke (I prefer watching to doing), LOVE theme parties, have never watched Ninja Turtles, but do enjoy marathons of shows.

trystan830 07-28-2019 11:56 AM

oooh cool!

Kaderin Triste 07-29-2019 10:03 PM

Super cute! Are the suspender straps attached to the skirt or a separate item?

Merskelly Metalien 07-30-2019 04:43 PM

I can't make clothes, but that looks really good Kitty! I love the hat. x}

KittyBeary 07-31-2019 12:01 AM

They're attached and have snaps. ^^ Thank you! <3

Kaderin Triste 07-31-2019 07:03 PM

Ah, I kind of want to attempt a suspender skirt for Derpy now!

Yesss! 8D

Kaderin Triste 08-01-2019 10:44 PM

Still have yet to make my own dress though...
Kinda want to work on it and try to fojish2 it so I can wear it this weekend, but not sure I'll have enough time.

Death by Mirrors 08-02-2019 07:16 AM

Pretty skirt, KittyBeary!

Derpy certainly would look fashionable in a suspender skirt. *nods*

Kaderin Triste 08-02-2019 06:11 PM

Tired burnout from jobs + depression + heat induced insomnia is not fun. So hard to get motivated to work on a project. Or really to do anything beyond laying in bed until the last possible minute before having to get ready for work...

Den 08-09-2019 09:01 PM

I have a drawing pad. I intended it for things like fanart and drawing my OCs... So far, I've been drawing pin designs.

Kaderin Triste 08-10-2019 01:02 PM

Need to do some cleaning and organizing when I get home from work today. And also maybe work on handwashing some clothes and fabrics. XP
And do crafts.
Unfortunately, don't get a full day off this weekend, but gonna try to accomplish some stuff anyway.

Den 08-10-2019 07:59 PM

I got some yarn today... two cakes from the same dye lot of an ombré yarn, and more white crochet cotton... totally forgot that I was going to get something a bit more flesh-toned for making dolls of M9... but I can try again next week when Dad sends me to get deathsticks.

And yes he would

Gogandantes 08-11-2019 08:40 PM

hi. I can sew small pillows and pillow cases etc.

Kaderin Triste 08-14-2019 12:05 AM

Nice! I keep meaning to learn to make pillowcases.

Am 1 row and bind off away from finally finishing my ace flag inspired nymphalidea shawlette! So might try to get that done tonight.

trystan830 08-14-2019 11:24 AM

ooh, pics when you're done?

i have three rows left of my second sock and then that pair is done too!

i have some sock yarn coming, hopefully today!... but i don't think i'll make them right away. i have a shawl i want to make, and that should be a good travel project... since next week at this time, i'll be across the state in Pittsburgh, dropping off the younger daughter for college!! o_O

Kaderin Triste 08-14-2019 01:05 PM

Welp, shawlette turned out quite a bit smaller than I anticipated. It'll need a bit of light blocking and I still have a fee yarn tails to weave in, but it still looks okay. Will attempt to upload a pic of the unblocked shawlette later today...

trystan830 08-14-2019 01:07 PM

i hate weaving in ends. ugh.

but yaay pics!

Kaderin Triste 08-14-2019 02:55 PM

Should make next project finishing a fox. Finally re-found the loom I need to make the last 3 parts it needs...

All the finished/made parts are already assembled... xP

trystan830 08-14-2019 02:57 PM

woo hoo!

i've made a few foxes, actually

Kaderin Triste 08-14-2019 06:08 PM

I really want to try some of the other animals that I have patterns for, but I also get so exhausted from work that it's hard to focus on anything.
Also, I bought a diamond dotz (diamond painting basically) kit of Starry Night that I've been working on. It's kind of calming for my brain to place the shiny, colored plastic bits in their correct places and I need that.

Kaderin Triste 08-14-2019 08:21 PM

Aaaaannnnd....mostly finished shawlette!

trystan830 08-14-2019 09:15 PM

oooh nice!

i finished my socks... and i have a pic!

Kaderin Triste 08-14-2019 09:17 PM

They look so cozy!
I really should make socks someday, I have a lot of pretty yarns for them.

KittyBeary 08-14-2019 09:22 PM

I made another pair of Minnie ears. :3 Hoping to sell some soon. ;u;

Kaderin Triste 08-14-2019 09:27 PM

Those are pretty cute! I like that fabric a lot

trystan830 08-14-2019 09:33 PM

oh they're cute, Kitty!

Kaderin, and i have another skein for another pair of socks, woot!

Kaderin Triste 08-14-2019 09:49 PM

MORE SOCKS! ALL THE SOCKS!
Lol
