i heard that one a long time ago, i think though the toy has to be pretty messed up to die, like to the point where a kid would not play with them anymore

I do not find it absurd at all that old japanese folktales say to respect everything you own because everything has a spirit and they can get angry with you and harm you. They would fill cracked and broken bowls and stuff with gold or something for some reason and ahhh
There went that train of thought I was so into that train for a minute but it left me standing here in the middle of the desert wondering..where?

actually the gold was a sign of beauty. the bowl, being old and damaged was beautiful and had it's own special charm. the gold was to repair it and bring it a new use but the gold itself was not as beautiful as the bowl itself. it's reflective of the general philosophy of a life live well and long XD
