well.. younger daughter and i share my car, so that's where we're at now

Kaderin Triste 08-04-2020 08:58 PM

I asked Derpy if we could share his car, but he seems to think I can't fit in it. *shrug*
Oh well.

Kitalpha Hart 08-04-2020 09:16 PM

If I ever get my license mom thinks that grandpa might just outright buy me a car

trystan830 08-04-2020 09:18 PM

LOL Kaderin!

that's pretty cool Kitalpha!

Kitalpha Hart 08-04-2020 10:16 PM

He has excellent credit so he has always cosigned, and usually after a year or two pays the rest off entirely
They have money, able to do that kind of thing, but they aren't loaded. Just lived smartly

trystan830 08-04-2020 10:18 PM

sounds like my parents. many of their new cars they bought they paid for in cash, and only had to finance the last few cars. i understand how to live smartly, but our credit card bills are kinda insane... *sigh*

Kitalpha Hart 08-05-2020 01:01 AM

Yeah being dealt a bad hand doesn't help

no..... no it doesn't. *sigh* it seems to get better, and then more bills happen. ugh.

Kitalpha Hart 08-06-2020 07:30 AM

Well, if anything like what mom and dad have going on is an indication, baby steps
But that doesn't work for everyone, so I get if you can't follow that

trystan830 08-06-2020 09:44 AM

what we're doing now seems to work, but we still end up with no savings. *sigh*

Kaderin Triste 08-07-2020 12:04 PM

I bought a lot of fabric yesterday...

trystan830 08-07-2020 03:59 PM

i got that kitty fabric with the floofy kitties and the pumpkins - i have some with the orange pumpkins, and another one you didn't get with a purple background! :)

Kaderin Triste 08-07-2020 06:04 PM

We didn't get in one with the purple background or I'd have it too. Just the grey and blue ones.

trystan830 08-07-2020 06:10 PM

aww, the purple one is cute. also the cat reminds me of my new guy, Rocky

Biomecha 08-07-2020 08:19 PM

Is the Starry Night one at Joann? I wonder if the one here has it, although it's still a bit of a drive.

Kaderin Triste 08-07-2020 08:29 PM

It is at Joann, yes. It's a Keepsake Calico and isn't a true Starry Night as it's just the sky/stars but not the ground/village part, but still really pretty. I may make a dress with it.

Kitalpha Hart 08-07-2020 10:55 PM

The thread spool one is so meta

Kaderin Triste 08-08-2020 12:34 AM

There's also one with sewing pins I might pick up later. I figured sewing themed masks would be appropriate for my shifts at JoAnn.
XD

Biomecha 08-08-2020 12:54 AM

I actually like how it's just the sky portion for the Starry Night one.

I wound up limiting myself on the dog themed ones. Mostly because a lot of the ones I liked were on Spoonflower.

trystan830 08-08-2020 12:54 AM

hmm... maybe i *should* get some fabric with yarn on it... XD

Bio - I've gotten a LOT of my fabric swatches from spoonflower :)

Kaderin Triste 08-08-2020 01:30 AM

Yeah...I thought about getting some fabric from Spoonflower, but I talked to someone who made a mask with fabric from them and it broke several of her sewing machine needles. Something about the way they print the designs apparently can lead to the material being harder to sew through. And I fight with my machine enough as it is. Though I may get a couple small sample cuts for Derpy skirts anyway since those are simple, minimal sewing (I just fabric glue the hem up, so it's just hand sewing the fabric to the elastic.)

trystan830 08-08-2020 01:41 AM

fair point, Kaderin. the fabric does remind me of a piece i got from my mom - i asked her to print one of my pics on printable fabric, and it was a little thicker (if that's the right word?). but as i hand-sew my masks, i've noticed the fabric is a little more than the cotton I've gotten at JoAnn's.

Biomecha 08-08-2020 01:44 AM

It's easy to go down a rabbit hole there, because once you find a design that is actually well made you can find more good ones from the same designer.

trystan830 08-08-2020 01:46 AM

i completely agree with that, Bio!

Derpy McBlueEyes 08-08-2020 01:53 AM

Derpy waddles in, dragging scraps of fabric and chanting "more skirts! More skirts!".

trystan830 08-08-2020 01:55 AM

Derpy, never stop being your awesome self! :D

Kitalpha Hart 08-08-2020 02:03 AM

My sister sent me a link to spoonflower, so I could make fabric patterns
Undecided if I want to or not tho

Biomecha 08-08-2020 02:06 AM

Oh, maybe the denim needles will hold up better for the printed ones? I did get some of those to use with the duck canvas for the masks, and just overall thicker layers.

Derpy waddles over and hugs your ankle, somehow managing to get the fabric pieces tangled up in the process. "You too!"

trystan830 08-08-2020 04:56 PM

aww, thanks Derpy!

Am thinking I'll need something stronger than normal top coat for them though so am gonna eventually test both gel polish top coat and uv resin to see which one holds up the best.

Kitalpha Hart 08-11-2020 02:12 PM

Oooooooohhhhh

Den 08-12-2020 12:54 AM

Question for anyone who does art stuff... how you feel / handle that previous requests / commissions you've done are lower quality than what you can do now?

I was comparing a piece I just finished to one I did a couple months ago when I was just starting. Literally worlds different. I don't think it's sustainable to redo old requests for everyone. But I feel.. idk, weird about it.

Derpy McBlueEyes 09-12-2020 09:57 PM

I don't make art, so I can't offer advice or anything from that point of view, but from the perspective of someone who has bought art back in the day (granted, 99.9% of the time, it's been online currency only, not rl cash), I feel like it's kind of a given that artist's skills and styles will evolve and improve over time, so it's never bothered me to pay for art and later see an artist having higher quality art.
Not sure if that helps or not though.

Death by Mirrors 09-13-2020 04:31 AM

I'm going as far as say that back then you were doing the best you could with your art abilities, and it's only natural you improve with practice. So why worry? You were not ripping off any customers - they looked at your samples and liked your style enough to commission you.

Kitalpha Hart 09-13-2020 07:53 AM

If they liked what they got, then leave it be

MonBon 09-13-2020 03:11 PM

Okayy, thank you guys. I know logically what you're saying is right, I just still feel weird about it haha.

Trying to find fabric so I can work on my clothing challenge outfit.
