That's just a stupid reason to accuse someone of being racist. It's just as bad as the people who are all "PoC shouldn't cosplay 'white' characters!". *headshake*

As for the damage to Katsucon's hotel, some idiot punched a hole in a wall, there were lights damaged, someone actually flooded their room... there's a LONG list of the stuff that happened this weekend.

We experienced a lot of this in the Idaho conventions. I think it is because of two things. 1. lack of parental supervision with minors. 2. Mob mentality - there are so many of us we can get away with whatever we want.

ALso! I say parental supervision because when I was a teenager I helped host an anime meet up at the mall. Everyone who attended was 14-16 years old with the odd ball couple of 20+ people. Everyone on their own I knew, and they were all wonderful people. In a group though, they'd start chucking coins off the stairs and throwing condoms around and would just make a giant mess around the mall.

The insult comes from people dressing as a "race"

Example: Hey, I'm going as an Amerindian. Look at my tomahawk and headdress! How exotic!

If someone doesn't know a costume is a specific character or legend, they may assume the above.

The only one I've been to is the local Fanime con with my friends. Sadly, the dealer's room has not had a decent graphic t-shirt for years, that's like half the reason I go! XD
It's still fun nonetheless.
