You can start with any non-evolved pokemon you want, it should also be non-legendary, but since you also get to pick a free legendary for signing up early, it shouldn't be a problem.

when you pay aurum, you're not receiving any trisphee items, but you are getting pokemon-pixels such as pokeballs and eggs to help you build your team. the shop with the pokemon in it, I see as kinda like the game corner in the games; you can buy rare pokemon for your team.

yep. they can be shiny or regular, whichever you want. (I think 3 people have started with a shiny Eevee so far. XD )

And the starting Pokemon and Legendary start at level 5.

The Aurum goes towards items for prizes, like I may buy runes or the monthly au item to use as a prize for contests.

The rotating shop Pokemon are for if you want more than one or a different Pokemon shown there.

Just pick any Pokemon you want, non-evolved and non legendary for your starter. And you may also pick any legendary since you joined in beta.
Both will be level 5.

I find that bulbapedia is a good source for pokemon sprite images, because you can pick whichever sprite you like best out of every game, and it's easy to search and navigate.
