Ahh, I see. That's good that you're in a field that you love. >w<
So it sounds like you like starting at ads and breaking them down...?
What makes advertising interesting for you?

Airina 05-31-2012 01:42 AM

Anyways good luck with this coming fall Arikana.

Arikana 05-31-2012 01:43 AM

Thanks, Airina. <3

You're so very welcome ari. What are you going to school for?

I like figuring out what makes an ad "good" or "bad." Of course, there's so many factors that go into that. Some ads are effective but annoying or only reach a small group. Some ads are beautiful, entertaining, or otherwise enjoyable, but fail to get the message across. Some ads focus on the value of a product, while others focus on the culture of the brand.

A really, really awesome ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUG9qYTJMsI
^ This ad appeared on youtube and got 2 million hits within 4 days.

I subscribe to magazines mostly to look at the ads, but also for the design layout and, in the case of GQ, I can scan images in to use for projects.

@Airina: Activation co-ordinator and gerontology. <3

@Lucid: Nice. I remember having to dissect ads back in high school for English in grade 11 and 12. And I still can't figure out what dissecting ads has to do with English... ._.;;

Airina 05-31-2012 11:32 AM

What is that exactly? I've never heard of it before....

Arikana 05-31-2012 11:53 AM

It's working with seniors and helping to plan meaningful activities to enhance the quality of life of seniors. :3

Geron is greek for "old man" and -logy means "study of", so gerontology means "study of old man".

Airina 05-31-2012 12:20 PM

Well I hope you have fun with that.

Lucid: 05-31-2012 06:02 PM

I don't know what dissecting ads has to do with english either. o.o;; unless it was about persuasive writing or something.

Arikana 05-31-2012 09:01 PM

I don't remember if it was or not now, but either way I found that part of English really lame. >.>

Lucid: 05-31-2012 11:02 PM

As long as it's the english that you think is lame and not the ads, it's all okay. :D

Arikana 05-31-2012 11:57 PM

But I like English, it's the ads that I don't like. >.>

Besides, I'm apparently good at English...I just take a really, really, really long time to write stuffs... D:

Lucid: 06-01-2012 04:53 PM

;A; but the ads are your FRIENDS! :D

Arikana 06-01-2012 07:34 PM

How so?
Because television advertisements/commercials are DEFINITELY NOT my friends. They always take forever during advertisement/commercial breaks. D<

Lucid: 06-01-2012 08:37 PM

But they're so fun! And they tell you about things that you want to buy! You never would have known you needed a Slap Chop unless the commercial said so. :D
The only thing I don't like is seeing the same commercial over and over and over and over.
