Matt paused and looked over his shoulder.
"...Mello leaves?" Matt frowned. |
"Well... obviously the things that happen there aren't the same," Nate said, clearing his throat.
|
"Or haven't happened yet...Mello hasn't turned fifteen yet." Matt started to sit up. "What year is it back in your place?"
|
"2011," Nate mumbled, before he added - as if to change the subject - "There's a PlayStation 3!"
|
"You mean he could take off!?" Matt breathed. "Just up and leave!? Why!?"
He turned so Nate was now sitting on his middle and sat up- looking frantic. |
"I don't know, they didn't cover that!" Nate whined. "I said too much, I'm sorry-!"
|
"I have to talk to Mello!" Matt started to wriggle out from beneath Nate. "I have to talk him outta it or something!"
|
"He's not leaving yet-!" Nate cried, trying to keep the redhead down - and calm. "Matt, please, listen-!"
He just wasn't getting through. Letting out a frustrated huff, Nate shoved the other down onto the bed and pressed their lips together. --Scene Change-- "...Why are you staring at me?" Missy asked, frowning. "And where's Nate?" |
"...This...isn't Nate." Mail frowned and looked back at Near.
"But..." Mihael frowned and looked at Near more closely. |
"Uh... duh?" Missy offered. "God, you two are such boys..."
Moving over, she grabbed Near's arm and tugged him closer, beside her. "He's at least three inches shorter then Nate," She commented. "And weighs maybe ten pounds more... not saying you're fat, sweetie. You're skinnier then a lamp post... and my guess is that since this..." She motioned to Near's midriff, which made the boy's cheeks turn a little pink as he attempted to pull his shirt down. "Is missing its usual piercing, chances are the tongue ring and earring holes are gone. Not to mention the tattoos." |
"I wanna prove that the tattoos are gone." Mail said eagerly.
|
Reaching up, Missy smacked the back of his head, before pushing Near toward Chester. "Chester, it's not Nate, right? You've got an eye for detail."
|
"No it's not, but where is he?" Chester reached out and took the front of Near's shirt- pulling him up onto his toes.
|
Near's eyes went wide and he squeaked in surprise.
"Hey, hey!" Missy called, brushing Chester's hands off. "Why would he know where Nate is?" She turned toward the boy, speaking in a gentle voice. "How did you get in here, sweetheart?" "I came out of the closet," Near informed, eying the man nervously. The girl blinked for a moment before glancing at Lawliet. "Well... that's very nice, but..." "I mean that is how I got in here," Near clarified, calmly. "...Chester, is there a reason you were keeping a small child in your closet?" Missy inquired. |
"How did you get in my closet?" Chester demanded.
"Your door wasn't even locked." Mihael replied. "Not when I came along." "It wasn't locked when I got here either." Mail offered. "Near was looking for his inhaler in the closet." |
"I do not use an inhaler," Near informed, looking over at Mihael.
"...Did you just call him Near?" Missy asked. |
"Oh crap, Nate- NATE was looking for it!" Mihael burst. "Damn it!"
|
"I would appreciate it if... this person would cease calling me that," Near informed. "My name is Near."
Missy turned to look at the redhead and her brother for an explanation, her face bemused. |
"Nate was having an asthma attack and went into closet, that's the last I saw." Mail offered.
"Same here." Mihael replied before pointing at Near. "This asshole came back out in his clothes." |
"This person doesn't know me well enough to assume my personality," Near informed.
"...He certainly sounds like Near..." Misy informed before she glanced at Lawliet. After a moment she turned back to Near and began to examine him. "Looks like him, too..." |
"A stunt double!" Mail burst.
|
"Why would Nate need a stunt double?" Missy groaned, before turning to Chester. "Do you still have a copy of the files Light's dad sent over when you were preparing for the first photo shoot for season two?"
She seemed like she was on to something. |
"Of course, I don't throw anything away." Chester replied.
"So you can sell it later, right?" Mihael rolled his eyes. |
Rolling her eyes, Missy followed the other back into his office. There was silence for a bit before she came out with him, holding three drawings.
"Look at this concept photo," She whistled, holding up the sketch for 'Near'. "Hey!" Near cried, grabbing it and staring down at the picture in surprise. "This looks like Linda's drawings!" |
Mail snorted and Mihael snatched the picture out of Near's hand.
"Damn, that's freaky uncanny." Mihael mumbled. "Okay, so what's your point Missy? This guy looks like Near, but we established that earlier." |
"Uh... Mihael," Missy said, slowly. "My point is that this kid probably looks like Near because he is Near."
|
"What!?" Mihael burst.
"That's...beautiful man." Mail smiled lazily. |
Missy stared at them for a moment before she reached up and pinched the bridge of her nose. "You do know that the characters in Death Note are based after real people... right?"
|
"What?" Mail, Mihael and Chester all asked in unison.
|
Slowly, Missy turned to look at Lawliet. "Weren't you supposed to tell them, sweetheart?" Her voice was somewhat cold, her eyes narrowed.
|
"...Light told me not to bother and I was having so much trouble adjusting everything to the script changes." Lawliet laughed nervously. "Then he wrote me out of the script completely."
|
"Mmhmm, and-" Missy paused, before turning. "Where'd the kid go?"
|
"When I made the new contract for TD I was obligated to confidentiality!" Lawliet burst. "Even to the cast members! Hey where'd the kid go?"
Lawliet was blinking now with all the others. |
"Well shit," Missy groaned. "Let's split up."
She grabbed Lawliet and took off down one part of Chester's huge house. |
"Crap, Near!" Mihael called as he took off the opposite direction. "NEAR!"
|
--Scene Change--
Near had gone back to the closet, trying to find some sort of trap door, although logically he knew there was no way he could have gone from England to America through just a single door. None of this was really logical anyway. |
It had been an hour or so before he heard the others outside regroup and then leave the apartment, but he didn't risk venturing out. Then there was a light knock on the closet door that made him freeze up.
"You can come out now." A voice informed. |
Crouched beside the door, Near had one leg pulled up against his chest and one of his hands was buried into his white curls. Slowly, he turned the door handle and pushed the door open a crack, peering out.
|
"It's safe." Mail assured. "Everyone's taken off."
|
Frowning a little bit, Near slowly pushed the door open all the way and crawled out, before climbing carefully to his feet.
Mail could see that he had pulled on a large jacket and taken off the sneakers that Nate had been wearing. |
