<-- is pathetically bad at anything cmdbox-related
|
doesn't know much linux coding... even though i'm using ubuntu OS.... -->
|
I don't really know much coding at all. They tried to teach me Pascal in HS, but it didn't stick.
|
Oh! It's a command box thing. x'D The only thing I know for that is ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew because my net on this computer keeps going wonky! D:< And even when I did the renew it kept saying my connection was still disconnected. (my dad has this secure wireless thingy for the computer that I think is going) So I bought a cord for it since my brother said he'll connect me, only problem is that I bought the wrong cord. x'D I need a Cat5E or something like that and I bought a Cat6-something. I only remembered the cat part. x'D (I'm not ditsy when it comes to computers just have a hard time remembering the name of things, I help people find the tools they need all the time even though I have no idea what it is by the name but do know by the description). x'D

i got my A+ certification a few years ago (and MCP, but that was for WinXP).... some things i do still remember.
i think i learned BASIC in high school (mid-late 80s), and now i know some html and BBCode too. pretty basic stuff. |

Yeah, windows is just generally easier to use and understand, for as long as I can remember that's all my family has ever had. And my dad is a computer scientist. o.O
|
i quite like my ubuntu. yummy flavor of linux. =)
|
lol, trystan sounds like a techy. XD
|
eh, kinda? XD
|
More techy than me at least. XD I know you work involves computers, but what was it again?
|
well, not really. i'm an office administrator. my boss hates computers and email. heh. the company is actually a financial middle-man.
|
Oh, okay. Though I thought you worked from home? Or at least that's what I thought your blog I read a while back said. o.O
|
nope.
my blogs on uni are links to my reading list, my goodreads profile, my LJ and my ravelry project page. =) |
Then I have no idea what it was that I read about four years ago. x'D
|
eh, it's ok.
but, 4 years ago, i lost my fridays at my main job, and picked up a second, weekend (Fri-Sun) job working at Michael's. =) |
Oh, so I might be remembering something that I had read back then vaguely. x'D
|
vaguely, yep.
but i do have A+ and MCP/WinXP certification. |
What does the certification mean? o.o;
|
technically, i can build a computer, install WinXP, and troubleshoot it.
practically, i've forgotten most of that..... |
I'd imagine not much call for WinXP work anymore anyway, lol, now that Microsoft won't support it.
My husband was A+ certified at one point. |
nope, not really. and as i mentioned above, i've forgotten a bit of it.
=D |
I'm still waiting for them to upgrade to Win7 on my work computer. They swore they were rolling it out months ago.
|
my boss has Win7 on her laptop (the one who hates technology, mind you) and our server and my computer still have XP. it's probably better that way though, since we use Access 2.0 still, which was a component of Office 2000.....

but every ubuntu OS after that (i'm using 14.04 now) has been my only OS on the computer. i never had much luck with the "10" versions, so even though i went from 10.04 to 10.10, after 11.04 i went right to 12.04. and then 14.04 LTS. |
Huh, interesting. Sadly though most of the games I play usually list things for windows, I have no clue if they have any compatibility with other operating systems. Can you take a screen shot of what you get on your screen when a Linux computer finishes booting up?
|
uhm, sure. when i'm all done, and at my desktop, ready to open all my programs, it looks like this.
|
O.O
That looks pretty cool, not much different from windows than. o.o If I can get most of my games to work on that it would be pretty awesome. Do Linux computers go for more or less than Windows ones? And can the Linux computers run older games, like from the 90's with or without a virtual machine? There's this game I love called Blaze & Blade: The Eternal Quest for the PC but its a really old game and half the time I can't figure out how to get it to run correctly (graphics issues for some reason) though my brother eventually got it to work properly on his. Another reason why I'm wondering is because after playing for a bit on the newer computers the game will suddenly run lightning fast, to the point of me accidentally killing my party. x'D |
not a clue on running the older games.
Linux comes in a number of flavors: Fedora, Red Hat (a flavor of Fedora), Ubuntu, Kubuntu (a flavor of Ubuntu), Debian, openSUSE, Gentoo... and most of them are free. the computer i'm using used to be WinXP. |
@.@
I think if I get one I'd have to have one of you guys help me get it set up, though I like the one you currently have trystan, though your screen seems to be pretty large. o.o; |
thanks! the monitor's resolution is 1280x1024. it's a nice size for me.
it's pretty easy to download the install CD, and install. and you can even install it along side your current OS too. |
Unfortunately I actually cannot since this is not my personal computer, but actually my dad's (even though he has it in my room on MY desk >>; )so I cannot actually do that until I have my own computer. My dad would flip if I did that, but most likely I'd need his password anyways since he's basically put a password on everything except games and browsing the net (and only on the games after installing because installing requires a password as well >>; ).
|
ah.
i do believe that ubuntu has an option on their web page where you can actually try ubuntu without installing anything, but i don't know how it would work if things are password protected. |
Yeah, that might cause some complications. ^^; If I do get a chance to use it though I'll be sure to ask you for help if I need it. :3
|
sounds like a plan. =)
|
*plays with trystan's hair*
XD |
LOL!
i feel very hobbit-y. =) |
Long hair is pretty and I love playing with it, but I can't stand my own hair when it gets long. x'D
|
i had long hair IRL, and got it cut in september... but now, yeah, i'm letting it grow again. both my daughters have really long hair though.
