What's it about?

During world war I, a girl is forced into servanthood with magic by her earth mage evil stepmother when her father dies in battle. It turns out she has fire mage power in her, and gets training from her godmother. Meanwhile, the evil stepmother wants one of her two daughters to marry a local young baron - a royal air force captain who is an air mage. However, he falls in love with the fire mage girl. It's basically a Cinderella retelling.

Cinderelle with magic. That sounds really cool.

Of course Cinderella has magic in it. XD At least for the godmother.

It is one of her Elemental Masters series. They are retellings of fairy tales in this alternate world of mages.

Besides Phoenix and Ashes, Mercedes Lackey also wrote in that Elemental Masters series : The Serpent's Shadow, Gates of Sleep, The Wizard of London, and Reserved for the Cat. A new one is coming out soon, too.

my husband read the codex of alera series by jim butcher. he said they're really good. i haven't had a chance to read them yet... but i intend to.

I really like the cirque du freak series and i'll be needing to read the new prequel series the saga of Larten Crepsley

What's that one about?

The cirque du freak series is about this bot named Darren Shan who ends up becoming a half vampire and it's about his travels with Larten Crepsley I'm trying not to give to much away about it.

Sounds cool. Maybe I'll read it sometime
