It would be neat to get into pottery, but seems like it would also be expensive. Especially since there would probably be a lot of failed attempts that can be costly, as you try to learn.

I'd like to collect mugs, but not the novelty ones. Unless it's Gudetama. Hardly anyone seems to make 14 to 16 oz. sizes, though.

Merskelly Metalien 11-28-2019 09:40 PM

Hehe! So true! ^~^; I tried pottery and ceramics several times, only to discover that I don't have very competent hands, and can't shape and sculpt worth a darn. <x/ I don't think I've ever made anything successful, other than a soap dish. <x'D In the shape of a fish.
That no one uses. ;-;

:] If I had the money and my own space place, I'd collect so many things..mugs, owl figurines, teas, stickers, buttons, rare souvenirs that have my name on them... <x}

littl3chocobo 11-28-2019 10:02 PM

that's a dangerous slope to slide down x''D i collect so much useless kitsch! i long ago ran out of room, hahaha

Merskelly Metalien 11-28-2019 10:37 PM

Well, ahhh, maybe not to an extreme extent. ^~^;
...except for maybe the owls. >w>;

Mekatra 11-28-2019 11:00 PM

Is there a clay center or pottery studio anywhere near you, Bio? Sometimes they offer really afforable classes. It's an easy way to learn without massive overhead.

Biomecha 11-28-2019 11:03 PM

There probably is. But I can't afford any type of class whatsoever. There's a few hobby things I'd like to try to learn about, but there's also the issue of other humans being involved and having too much anxiety to deal with it.

littl3chocobo 11-28-2019 11:03 PM

i stuck with rocks and flocked dolls(they are just so cute and tiny and perfect for making clothes) and now i have a whole section of wall just for that x''D

littl3chocobo 11-28-2019 11:05 PM

could bio buy children's terracotta clay? it can be baked in an oven and you can practice on little pieces of that until you feel confident enough to try it on actual pottery?

Merskelly Metalien 11-28-2019 11:09 PM

:] Bead pixel art is pretty neat.
You don't need any human interaction to pick that up as a hobby.
And you can sell your creations as like, coasters or keychains or something. ^-^

Or,
Bead animal keychains are something too. :] I learned how in kindergarten, and it's fairly easy to learn without paying for a class. :/ But you'd have to buy beads and strings and key rings.

Biomecha 11-28-2019 11:16 PM

It's also a slippery slop to start.

My mother was an artist and actually did some bead work, which was sort of like that. But at a much more advanced level where she would sew the beads directly onto leather. Even much tinier seed beads than average for other people who use them.

Mekatra 11-28-2019 11:20 PM

Most crafts are a slippery slope.

Basically every craft I have ever picked up I ended up amassing way too many supplies.

Merskelly Metalien 11-28-2019 11:25 PM

:] Well, if beads are not your thing,
:/ and might be a pain to work with since it requires patience and shorter nails,
*shrug* how about making your own art with your favorite or best type of medium? :]
Like painting songs? Or collages?

One requires paint and canvas, and the other scizzors, glue, and magazines. <u<;

littl3chocobo 11-28-2019 11:33 PM

aren't masses of art supplies the whole point of crafts? X''D

Mekatra 11-28-2019 11:43 PM

Collecting craft supplies and actually using them are actually two different hobbies entirely.

There are a lot of crafts that have low start-up costs. Is there a particular medium or style that just really calls to you?

o_o;;;...…..*looks away, incredibly guilty of not using collected supplies* >~>;;;

Mekatra 11-28-2019 11:47 PM

I have loads of untouched supplies that I'll uh... let's say I'll get around to using them someday.

littl3chocobo 11-28-2019 11:54 PM

pffft, i've got no shame x''D if i live to be 100 i will not be able to use up all this fabric and thread

Merskelly Metalien 11-29-2019 12:16 AM

<U<; *has supplies leftover from when I made a big cardboard gingerbread house for my grandma 7 years ago...*

littl3chocobo 11-29-2019 12:28 AM

oh man, how dense is the fluting? i could use some sturdy cardboard

Merskelly Metalien 11-29-2019 12:31 AM

Oh my bad. <x'} Did I say carboard? I meant Styrofoam..oops. I forgot I used the carboard only for the bottom where I set the house ontop of. :/

littl3chocobo 11-29-2019 12:34 AM

fair, fair. cannot use that though, one of the kitties likes to gnaw on the stuff XD

Merskelly Metalien 11-29-2019 12:52 AM

OhhNOOOOO! D,X
Kitty that's not for eating!!

Though when I was a little kid, I used to chew on lots of things I shouldn't have been chewing on. >u>; Like erasers, the metal around the erasers on a pencil, the pencil, paper, plastic straws, plastic foam cups, my nails, and that's the limit of what I'm comfortable admitting. >w>;

Biomecha 11-29-2019 12:55 AM

I agree that collecting supplies really is a hobby in and of itself. Hunting all the neat things is pretty fun. Hand tools, even if you don't have a use for them, can be addictive.

Maybe you're secretly a robot and need the nutrients from metal and plastics that you can't get from human foods.

Merskelly Metalien 11-29-2019 01:01 AM

<w<; I thought so too, until I found my hunger yet unsatisfied by loose-leaf and stickers...and electric cords. :/
<:\ Unfortunately I am organic and need organic sustenance to function.

littl3chocobo 11-29-2019 11:17 AM

dude, i've got bad pica x''D i used to chew on one of those cut crystal balls that come on the end of fancy windchimes and i only recently stopped my ice chewing rampage

Merskelly Metalien 11-29-2019 04:54 PM

:D haha, I used to keep marbles in my mouth sometimes. <xP Gross what I recall doing as a kid hehe.

littl3chocobo 11-29-2019 05:39 PM

i assume you didn't wash them before sticking them in? XD

Mekatra 11-29-2019 08:16 PM

I used to chew holes in the collars of my shirts and would eat entire sheets of paper over the course of a school day.

Actually I still eat paper when I'm concentrating.

Merskelly Metalien 11-30-2019 02:33 AM

@chocobo: <u<; yehh...by the time I could figure out what looked clean, I wasn't stickin' marbles in my mouth anymore.

@mekatra: It's rare for me, but I too nibble on some of my notebook paper! >u<;
Mostly if I'm really hungry or frustrated with the class material. :/

littl3chocobo 11-30-2019 05:27 AM

chewing gum seems like an ideal thing for us XD

Mekatra 11-30-2019 03:23 PM

Chewing gum is for quitters. I will be chewing rocks and glass until this behaviour stops on its own.

Merskelly Metalien 11-30-2019 05:42 PM

I can't chew gum anymore. <u<; It makes my stomach sick and my throat scratchy and dry...used to chew it every day tho from the end of high school into first college semster. :/
Now I just chew the inside of my cheek. <x<;

littl3chocobo 11-30-2019 05:45 PM

hahaha, welp, you are now our leader, mekky. i can't compete with that!

littl3chocobo 11-30-2019 05:46 PM

is it any gum or just the stuff you used to eat?

Merskelly Metalien 11-30-2019 05:51 PM

:/ I think any gum..
Unfortunately, I can't enjoy gum anymore. ^-^ Which is actually good because now I don't have as much bloating and abdominal pain from it.
Still got me a strong jaw tho. >:} I could play tug of war with medium sized dogs.

littl3chocobo 12-01-2019 09:08 PM

sounds more like an allergy than an intolerance, heck

Mekatra 12-01-2019 10:51 PM

You could get those chewie rings they give to teething toddlers. That would hurt less than chewing your own cheek.

Biomecha 12-01-2019 11:17 PM

There's also chewable stim toys.

https://www.stimtastic.co/stim-toys/...ewable-raccoon

Merskelly Metalien 12-02-2019 12:58 PM

:] Eh. It don't hurt that much. I've been chewing on the inside of my mouth since I was a toddler. >u> Because those chewing rings never satisfied my craving for skin and blood. o_o ...I was a gross, hardcore little child that ripped off hangnails and chewed scabs. >u>; I don't so much anymore, since I can chew on other things like...steak! -W- Mmmm, juicy, tender steak.~ <3

o-o...come to think of it, my affinity of tug of war, habit of chewing, bursts of energy and love of meats is kinda akin to a dog in a lot of ways. :/ I might have been a dog before in a previous life. <x}
