"I'd tell you, but you're only thirteen." Mail replied as they slipped out.
"And how old is... what is it that I am to call this person?" Near asked with a frown, realizing he didn't know the other's name. "Nate's phone said that his name was Mail, but..."
"I'm seventeen going on eighteen kiddo." Mail replied.
"So technically... if I am still alive... I am older then Mail," Near hummed to himself.
"So you think you're back in time then?" Mail laughed as he hit the button for the elevator.
"I am technically in the future," Near informed. "I am merely wondering if I will attempt to find myself. Logic says that I wont, if I am alive to remember these moments."
"Maybe we write it as it happens and not as it has happened?" Mail offered before stepping onto the elevator and hitting it for the ground floor. "I mean, wouldn't suck if he already knew and couldn't be surprised? Oh dude! We should totally find his ass!"
"Logic tells me that mixing timelines with myself is not smart," Near informed, before his eyes went wide. "Unless, of course... I never return to my own time line... then we would be looking for Nate."
"...You lost me." Mail blinked.
"If Nate and I switched places," Near attempted to explain, his eyes widening even more. "Then Nate is in the past now. If we don't figure out how to switch us back... then he will live on in the past."
"...So then...he's Near...today?" Mail attempted.
The white haired boy gave him a blank look.
To Mail, it might have seemed annoyed... but in honesty, Near was happy to be around someone who wasn't constantly trying to win against him in a battle of intelligence. |
Of course, it hardly meant much considering that the redhead couldn't even hope to compete, but still, it was somehow relieving.
"...So," Near attempted, trying to change the subject. "The abilities of Nate's phone are quite impressive."
"Yep...he can call people, send them typed messages, game, take pictures of his mangina and promptly look them up on the internet afterwords." Mail nodded.
"His... what?" Near asked, his eyes going wide. "Nate is a hermaphrodite!?"
"Aye-yah..." Mail sighed- shaking his head. "You ever have a FaceBook?"
"It was created in 2004," Near informed, still frowning deeply. "And we don't have the internet at Wammy's. I was curious as to what it was... so I used Nate's phone to google it."
"You set up a FaceBook?" Mail beamed. "So what's the update?"
"I did not 'set one up'," Near informed as they finally moved to step off the elevator. "I glanced at N-"
He paused as he saw the groups of people. They were still partying, even as the sun was coming up. |
"Oh wow!" Mail hummed. "You feel like becoming an adult?"
He moved over and leaned on the rail- looking down at the crowd and laughing. |
As he turned back, he saw that Near had pressed himself against the back wall of the elevator.
"Woah, hey?" Mail stepped back in and knelt beside the boy. "What's up?"
"I don't... I don't like crows..." Near whispered, his shoulders tense as he covered his ears to try and block out the music. "Or loud sounds..."
"But this is a party." Mail replied, reaching over and scooping the little boy up.
"Wh- HEY!" Near cried, struggling in the redhead's hold a little. "I would appreciate being released!"
"Then I'll have to drop you off in the party room." Mail shrugged.
Near's eyes slowly began to widen. "Mail wouldn't dare-!"
"Okay, first of all, it's pronounced mile." The tanned boy said before he smirked. "You wanna dare me?"
Near appeared surprised for a moment, before he frowned. "Mile?"
"Yep, that's how you say it." Mail nodded. "So...have you only seen my name in writing then?"
He grinned. "Did you sneak a peek?" He asked. |
"I already informed Mail that I had looked at Nate's phone," Near groaned. "In which he had received several very... interesting text messages from Mail. It is also how I know that Mail is not a real redhead."
"That's not a matter of text." Mail smirked. "So you saw the photo."
"All seventeen of them," Near informed, his face rather calm. "Why it was needed from different angles is beyond me..."
"You can't take it all at once." Mail laughed.
"A single front-on photo would have been good enough," Near informed, lifting an eyebrow. "There wasn't much to take on."
"I said in." Mail snorted. "Besides, you really think a little kid like you is gonna worry me?"
Mail snickered and carried Near out of the elevator. |
"PUT ME DOWN!" Near shrieked as soon as Mail's foot was outside of the elevator. He began to struggle wildly, trying to break free of the redhead's hold.
Mail shifted Near and held him close against him- immobilizing the little boy for the most part.
"Just close your eyes and I'll get us outside." Mail said into Near's ear. |
Near was extremely uncomfortable - with the crowd and the music, but also with the closeness - but he closed his eyes regardless. Logic said that Mail would not hurt him and that trumped the fear.
