I miss DnD also but I'm not nearby to anyone I know much anymore. I could probably try to find some group but...bleh :p

Fallout 1 and 2 were top down, like, ah.. Baldur's Gate? I'm not quite sure what else to relate them to.

My group broke up after high school and I never really bothered looking again, so it's a been about five years for me.

You guys wouldn't want to do a DnD RP, would you? I'm not sure the idea I've been working on would that for it and it makes everything more complicated.

I certainly wouldn't mind trying, I really do miss it, but I don't have dice anymore, I'd have to use an online randomizer. And I think I only have 3rd edition books...somewhere. Maybe not even those anymore but I have no idea why I'd get rid of them. They're probably just in a box somewhere.

Mm, well, I can consider it. It would be 3.5 if I did, since those are the only books I have, but I'm a pretty flexible DM.

Okay... thinking about this a bit more, I have this crazy idea for a post-apocalyptic/fantasy RP based on the Book of Revelation with all sorts of factions and artifacts and monsters. We could have a mix of modern weapons technology and magic of various kinds. I'd be taking pretty much whatever I wanted from the source material and re-imagining it for my own purposes; I just love the apocalyptic imagery.

This sound interesting to anyone?

I feel kind of bad saying this, but I need to find a copy of Revelation I can highlight all over so I can remember which parts I want to use. I don't think my mother would appreciate me desecrating her Bible. :p

I've seen highlighted Bibles, it's not desecration Oo Printing just Revelations would probably be cheaper than buying a Bible anyways though.

Forum rp is pretty basic. Imagine playing DnD with sticky notes. That about covers it. There are dice rollers around based around dnd that let you rolle stats, various dice, etc. Some keep track of round per round activities, if stats and such are being included. I find it's the character sheets that get annoying more than anything. ;)

As far as shooters go, how much fun I can have running around and blowing things up is usually how I measure the game. It's even better if I can do the quests and such but I'm for open scenarios, death counts and such. I'm mean though. I throw grenades from windows, lay proximity mines in hallways and intersections, camp around a blind corner with a big gun, run over people with vehicles, and launch flame granades while standing in a pond in case someone manages to set me on fire. :D. Fun fun.

Haha Quiet, reading that makes me laugh a LOT. I imagine I might have had more fun with first person shooters if I didn't lose all the time, plus, I started WAAAAY back on Doom, and the one person who always dragged me to play with him loved beating me terribly. I enjoyed playing Doom Co-op, but there was always that "oops I blew up my teammate again..." that happened, usually him doing it to me by accident :p

Heh. Doom was my first as well, but I was wussy at the time and jumped out of my seat half the time when a monster appeared. There's little 8-year old me, or so, walking along, do-be-do, MONSTER!EEEEEEKK!!! *mashes space bar as fast as she can.* This was Doom on DOS. I don't recall if there was a point to that game beyond killing aliens. I'm still a little unnerved by Doom 3.

Most of the above post stuff comes from TimeSplitters or Time Splitters 2. The game keeps a kill count and it goes by who caused the death so when someone sets me on fire (there are flamethrowers in the game) I can run into a mob of people, set them on fire too with my flaming self and get the points for killing them. :). For some reason I'm actually fairly good at that game so I -natually- like it more than others. It's the only shooter I actually own.

I know about the co-op issues. I used to play with my friend who insisted on being in the back since I was better at it than him, but he was constantly shooting me in the back of the head. It often led to me chasing him down to I could shoot him a few times before we moved onto the next area.

I guess I could mention that Time Splitters is a shooter game with the plotline that there are alien beings that are appearing throughout the world's history and you're a special agent that tracks them down, so at one point you're in Cold War Russia with leugers and snipper rifles, and another time it's the old west with sticks of dynamite, revolvers, rifles and powder kegs, or you're in the future with oddball weaponry and tacky leotard outfits. One of my favourites is the dual tommy guns from the 1920's scenario.

I'm familiar with Time Splitters but never played it, FPS games are pretty low on my list because of my friend's Doom obsession ^^; I do, however, enjoy side scrolling shooters, like Touhou, Thunderforce, Gradius, and the like.

I don't know those but I know the style. I only have one sidescrolling game now and that's the new Castlevania for DS. I can't get past the first boss. :(. Neither could my friend and he's an ubergamer.

That would be the one. I saw a new Castlevania at the store today but it was X-box I think. I don't know if there are any newer ones for DS but I'm not the type to keep up on those things. I only know about Skyrim because I saw a pamphlet or poster somewhere and from the lengthy thread in the games forum. ;).

It's the crab boss. I get in a corner and his bubbles kill me. Can't figure out how to avoid those.

I just put Castlevania 1 through 4 in my pile of games to sell on eBay. Those are the only ones I ever played, and long ago, at that.

I have Order of Ecclesia for DS and Lament of Innocence for PS2, which I quite like.

I have liked all the CastleVania games, even that poorly made one for the N64. I don't have all the ones released but I have plaed them all except the newest one on the PS3/Xbox 360.

I like RPGs, It was tough because of the two elements actually. I am bad at shooters and just couldn't win a fight...easily without basically grinding but I didn't like combat to begin with so bleh. The only time I got anywhere was playing with someone but I always felt...useless so didn't bother with Borderlands any further. Just wasn't fun if my ass was handed to me on a plate xD (Same goes for Final Fantasy Dissidia ;-; )

haha Yeah I played 1 and 2 to death. I was a big fan. Part of two sites, and knew just about EVERYTHING in the halo-verse. Read all of the 4 books availible at the time too. The only place I faltered was the weapons and exact year of events. I could land in the decade or half century (if tracing that far back). xD Now I barely remember anything at all =\

@Dolly, I'm kind of steering away from the DnD idea anyway, mostly the issues you mentioned. Plus, it would be a lot of work to make it fit the idea I have in mind.

Oh, well, I mean that it would be a lot of work to develop the setting since I wouldn't be able to use any of the standard DnD stuff (well, little of it, anyway).

But my basic idea at the moment is a post-apocalyptic setting based on the Book of Revelation where humanity is struggling to survive the apocalypse while the dead walk, false prophets take over nations, angels rain ruin on the earth, sorcery springs up among humanity, demons crawl forth from the abyss, the Four Horsemen ride the world sowing chaos in their wake, you get the idea.

I'm actually reading through the Book of Revelation with a highlighter at the moment, and I keep getting more ideas, so it's looking like I might actually be able to do it. It's just a matter of figuring it all out.
