My mom has a scar like that and she's totally still alive.

(The fact that she needed that level of invasive surgery is a rather chilling thing though. She had a thyroid mass that went undetected for a long time because it had grown underneath her ribcage instead of out on her throat, so it was the size of both fists put together pressing against her lungs and heart. She made a full recovery!)

I guess I should consider myself lucky that my thyroid nodules are showing on my throat rather than hiding like that, huh? Although, they kind of have gotten below my collarbone. I should talk to my doctor about the possibility of them being even lower than that, clearly.

Eek! Yes, definitely you should ask. It's easy enough to find out (I think an ultrasound is all it takes).
