Lee has talents. She just wants to say she doesn't >.>

Also I wasn't aware of that yet XD I just hopped on in a rush since I haven't been on in 2 days almost XD

Potironette 05-22-2016 11:27 PM

^_^ that's part of the reason I refuse to believe in lack of talent. Actually most of the people who say they don't seem to care/have talent about the thing more than others xD

Edit: For some really weird reason whenever the idea of talent comes up I get a little worked up or thrown off balance. Hum, if I'm writing oddly for the few posts I make during this hour, feel free to ignore it @~@

i have talent... i can crochet pretty darn well. =)

drawing things other than abstract shapes and stick figures? not so good there.

Potironette 05-22-2016 11:42 PM

I don't think I've ever thought of myself in terms of talent until maybe a year ago? Everything was either: I care about this so I can get good at it vs. I don't care so I'm not good at it. When I thought about talent it was: talent is the ability to care about something always. As for sports, it's just opportunity to get somewhere while young, and the ability to stick to something if older.

Oh! About crocheting! There was always this thing that confused me to no end: when you crochet, how do you decide what hole to stick the hook into next? I gave up learning crocheting at some point because I had no idea what hole the video tutorials and book tutorials were telling me to stick the hook into x'D

trystan830 05-22-2016 11:54 PM

Potironette, a good tutorial should show you where the hook goes.

i found this one for single crochet stitches, making them into the chain. the websites i use are pretty good at somehow highlighting where the hook goes, and the vids i find need to show me exactly what to do. (youtube is how i learned to knook and do tunisian crochet). if the site or vid doesn't do that, i find another one. there should be sites and vids out there that show you the other stitches into the chain or subsequent rows as well.

... and sometimes you wrap your current stitch around the post of the one below it. that's a whole different hole. ;)

I'm not good at abstract or crocheting XD
I completely failed my first and only hat.
I did make a purse once in school for a project in 5th grade hand weaving something though, If I could i would wanna try that again XD

As for talent I feel like talent applies to more than just things like writing, art, sports and so on so forth. I would elaborate on this thought but the conversation at my house got WAAAAAAAAAYYYYY to philosophical and debate-y in nature so I am unsure how to explain the rest of this XD

My friend said this: You have learned/taught talents that you gain from practice over years.
Some talents are natural to some people and flow out easily.
And you have some talents you learn/gain through experiences and or EXTREME situations. (extreme such as a survival situation... of multiple different kinds...wilderness....lethal people...so on so forth)

trystan830 05-23-2016 12:49 AM

while i taught myself to crochet, many people have said i have talent because i can do all these cool things and techniques, and i can design my own things. (i think that's from all the sewing i've done, too.) you can see all the stuff i've made in the ravelry link in my sig. =)

Potironette 05-24-2016 05:48 AM

Thanks for the link trystan! Your shawls look really wonderful!

On a totally unrelated note, I think I saw a black shape dart into the kitchen...it couldn't be a mouse could it...?

trystan830 05-24-2016 10:55 AM

thanks Potironette!!

we wouldn't have mice... we have cats! =^..^=
