I am gonna need way more than just 1 latte in the morning to be of any use at work if they don't stop soon so I can sleep. *has to be up in approx. 5.5 hours*

Espy 07-05-2018 03:29 AM

100 degrees? That's cute.

Quiet Man Cometh 07-05-2018 04:25 AM

You can keep all your hot. I dislike!

Happy 'Murica day and such, though I only say that because it seems to be an all out thing over there.

Canada day was three days ago, and there were fireworks in that I saw them on the news and remembered they were going on. Nothing in the neighbourhood though. I was visiting my mom in the city. Back home the area has a tiny parade with horses and farm things and people dress up and such, one of those county things.

I honestly don't know what "Canada Day" actually celebrates, apart from the age of the country (151 this year). I think we weren't an independent country until post WWI, which was more than 151 years ago, so maybe it's when there stopped being an "upper" and "lower" Canada.

Give me a moment to look this up...

Quiet Man Cometh 07-05-2018 04:30 AM

Okay, this: "it celebrates the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, the effective date of the Constitution Act, 1867 (then called the British North America Act, 1867), which united the three separate colonies of the Province of Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick into a single Dominion within the British Empire called Canada."

So not technically a "birthday" but one of those good-enough things. Apparently we weren't technically a fully independent county until 1982. By then, it was probably one of those things that people just never get around to doing because it's more a formality than anything.

Kaderin Triste 07-05-2018 10:18 AM

Just another 3-5 days of people lighting off spare fireworks and we're done! *dies*
I mean, hopefully not, but based on past years, that's what I expect.

KittyBeary 07-05-2018 10:42 PM

Yeah, they finally stopped at 12am last night or so, will probably hear leftovers tonight. x_x

Claire Bear 07-05-2018 11:09 PM

i wish it hadn't been so hot out yesterday. i don't know how anyone went out to celebrate in this heat.

Den 07-05-2018 11:11 PM

people started celebrating here a couple days early, even though they weren't legally allowed to until 11 AM on the 4th, but it started raining around 11PM yesterday, so nobody was out shooing them off after that. I haven't heard any go off today, thankfully.

Claire Bear 07-05-2018 11:14 PM

in Illinois it's pretty much illegal to buy any fireworks, so we just drive to Indiana to get them. americans will blow stuff up whether it's legal or not!

Espy 07-06-2018 01:48 AM

...It annoys me how inconsiderate people can be of pets and vets.

Quiet Man Cometh 07-06-2018 06:22 AM

Edited because now that I've said that, I've realized I probably shouldn't.

Please don't be idiots on holidays, that is all.

Witchchylde 07-08-2018 10:57 AM

Okay, what did we do on Independence Day? Um, I think we cooked hamburgers indoors and watched fireworks on TV. Well, that's where the air conditioning is! Also, keeping seven Chiweenies and an elderly Jack Russell calm during the distant fireworks show.
