I couldn't say. all programming languages do have similarities. I know a little bit of Java but I would have to look up a lot of PHP stuff to make heads or tails of this one. mostly syntax I think, though, I recognize a lot of structures and know kindof how to read them.

It's similar enough to Java to make parallels, assuming you're treating PHP's strings as character arrays instead of String objects.

I say just read the manual XDD It helped me figure practically everything about the language out... well at least the basic stuff required for this.
This is the Manual Go to the "Language Reference" section and read up. It's not too long and I'm sure it'd be used in the future.. sometime =P |

the contest was written in a way to prevent people from just running the code and getting the result; I believe it has to be deciphered manually to get the correct answer. of course, I'm not the best person to ask about it.

I did it manually and got it right.. SO I suggest you go with that and ignore the generated one
