All of the above.
My family can be... really ridiculous sometimes. Especially my grandmother and my mother's entire side. :/
And my mother. I deal with her shit every day. You think that I would be use to it but I'm not.

Try chewing gum instead. It'll at least keep your mouth busy.

you NEVER get used to family stress. I'm over 30, out of the house and out of their drama, but I still get stressed any time they drag me back in. Try working out a new way to work over the stress. Gum, toothpicks, something that's a bit less self-abusive(it's just nails, but still). If you can mentally make the change over you'll switch to the less detrimental habit.

I'm going to start getting myself some gum to distract myself.

I have a similar thing with sores too. But most of the time it's from mosquito bites gone wild. Usually I scratch/pick at them more when I'm stressed. And I have a habit of scratching even if I don't itch, again out of stress.

I have a LOT of bad habits.

I injure myself unintentionally... all the time. Like run my hip into the computer desk, or stub the same toe four times in a day. But things I do that are on purpose and that are just plain annoying? I pick at my cuticles, chew the inside of my lip until its raw,
