Garth Nix's Abhorsen Series. I don't know if it's been mentioned yet.

And pretty much anything by Anne McCaffrey as been mentioned.

Started reading Sabriel, then had to return the long-overdue book...then kind of just forgot about it. Now that you've mentioned it...I really should try to find it again.

The Wind on Fire trilogy. It's written William Nicholson, same person who wrote for the movie Gladiator. The characters are wonderful.

Fantasy Books are my love. Here are a few I have read and enjoyed. Hopefully no one posted them yet.

A Game of Thrones (George R.R. Martin)

The Blade Itself (Joe Abercrombie)

Lies of Locke Lamora (Scott Lynch)

Not sure if it was mentioned but they should have is the Song of the Lioness series, they were published in the 1980's and she continues to write to this day. I haven't read the other areas of that world yet so I can't speak for them but I like those four books.

Reading more of Malazan "Toll the Hounds." Keeping everyone apart is something of a exercise, but the characters that are popping up now are certainly attention grabbers.

I know it has been mentioned before, but I do have to second (or third) the suggestion of the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix. My boyfriend has all 3 books in the series so far. I loved them and read all 3 in a month. He has a new book coming out in 2013 we hope.

Another series I have heard of is the Summoner series by Gail Martin (I think I spelled her name right) I haven't read them yet, but I started my boyfriend on the series a couple years ago and he loves it so far.
