Deckhand...those are the people who do most of the physical stuff onboard...moving hawsers (huge-assed ropes that weigh a decent 250 lbs), cleaning (sometimes), raising the flags, etc.

Bosun is the abbreviation of Boatswain. They're one step lower than the first or second mates, I think. Not too sure. My simulation was slightly different, with the bosun team as an actual crew.

I was the deckhand mate. Yes, 5-foot-tall, very skinny me. That was fun...good thing I had a crew behind me. Technically I wasn't supposed to do much minus tell them to do stuff...but I did have to be at the head of that hawser. Left decent pressure marks on my elbow for days.
