so how are you? did you do a thanksgiving thing?

I'm in Canada so mine was last month. We did the usual thing, turkey, potatoes, brussel sprouts, carrots etc, cranberry sauce, gravy, dressing, ginger cookies and butter tarts for dessert.

Ginger cookies and Butter tarts? O.O

now that my turkey was cooked I like to put the bones in my crocket pot with some water and make turkey stock . . . and then i make that into turkey noodle soup. It's delicious <3

A cousin's recipe for ginger snaps that I can actually make. I usually bring them out around Christmas but thought I'd make them early.

I've heard butter tarts are a Canadian thing. I've also heard American's describe them as like miniature pecan pies. Basically molasses, copious amounts of brown sugar and butter, raisins or what-have-you, and a few other things cooked in tart pastry.

Ah, so homemade tarts! Yum!

littl3chocobo 11-27-2015 07:52 PM

would quiet be willing to share a recipe for either? XD i am collecting for a cookbook and right now i have an alaska source, a scotland source and myself hahaha

The ginger snaps are easy. Off the top of my head; 2 cups flour, 1 cup white sugar, 3/4 cup shortening, 3 tbsp molasses, 1 tsp ginger, 1 tsp cloves, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 egg. Not sure of the amounts though. Roll dough into little balls, rolls balls in white sugar, put on baking tray and cook 15 min or so at I think 375?

The butter tarts are a fair bit more complicated and I've never actually made them myself. They take some effort. Something along the lines of make goo (strong elbow helps because a powered mixer isn't likely to do it), make pastry. Cook pastry cups part way, add goo, cook more.

haha, well i would be much obliged if you ever felt like pming me the contents of goo XD

I visited my biffle's family for thanksgiving and had just about the best meal I've had in a long while. <3 I even ate the salad - and I usually hate salad!
About to eat leftovers now.

I don't know what a butter tart is, but it sounds awesome. ouo

littl3chocobo 11-27-2015 11:34 PM

from the sounds of it it's like a sugar pie only with dried fruit XD

CupcakeDolly 11-28-2015 01:39 AM

Sounds tasty to me!

Quiet Man Cometh 11-30-2015 01:37 PM

I'll have to track down the recipe. Not sure where I put it.

A bunch of little hairy skinny dwarfs made off with Quiet's recipe xD

I had Thanksgiving Dinner twice this weekend. once with my family, and once with the boyfriend's family. main difference was the vegetables served. Mom does a green bean casserole and a wild rice casserole and sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes... boyfriend's family had roasted veggies and mashed potatoes... though they also smoked their turkey, whereas Mom roasted it in the oven. soooo much good food.

littl3chocobo 12-01-2015 04:58 AM

so... i packed away the turkey yesterday XD we have a lot more fridge room now haha
