Yeah, I like my avatars to be as matching as possible, with the only exception being my favored base (like my current hair/skin).

Athilea Majiri 06-21-2016 08:04 PM

I tend towards the same thing, though there are a couple of avatars based on OCs that break from that a little.

Athilea Majiri 06-21-2016 10:40 PM

I'm sorry ml1201 but that is not correct. Try again and I'm sure you will get it.

Gyahh, which one would try something like another empty thing?!?! I don't know =='
More or less random guess, Tiva for 5!
...Colors hmm? It's hard for me to tell ^~^''. Although, I guess this one doesn't look very much like Galla, but that's because mostly I see Galla with more vertical things...I had no clue the other one was Galla because it was a lot more delicate than usual though ><

Athilea Majiri 06-21-2016 10:57 PM

That is a good guess Patrionette, but alas it is not a correct guess. Keep trying!

Gallagher 06-21-2016 10:58 PM

Potir - Well, I usually wear my base. You can only get so delicate while wearing a base.

I get I'm digging my grave for guessing in the most non-methodical manner conceivable, but it's more fun that way x'D

...Ohh come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen Galla without a base.

Athilea Majiri 06-21-2016 11:03 PM

That's alright. You can guess however you like. I hate to say it, though, but that is not correct Patrionette

Gallagher 06-21-2016 11:03 PM

It's rare that I go without my base, and that includes a very specific skin color, eye colors, hair colors, and tattoo configuration. The avatars I actually wear are easily identifiable. My contest work not quite so much so. We all have tells, though. Especially users with several years of avi making experience.

Tells.? Well, I do understand, but I guess I need to see more avatars before noticing these ^^'

Athilea Majiri 06-21-2016 11:13 PM

I am sorry Potrionette, but that's not correct.

Edit: And yeah. I almost always use elf ears, or pointy ears of some sort.

Gallagher 06-21-2016 11:25 PM

Some of us, like Espy, tend toward a lot of intricate details and making the color balance even across as many sections as possible. Some, like Tiva, keep an overall theme or color focus in mind and will use layering as necessary to achieve it, whether that results in a simple avatar or a complex one. Then there's people like Toho who use what they like without caring if they actually go together. Those people are easy to pick out once you know their favored themes/items. littl3chocobo, for example, almost exclusively makes baseless, background centered avatars. Poggio will ignore imperfect shade matches as long as the item goes with the general colors and themes, and favors highly detailed faces and held items. Pessimisticat is still developing their avatar style, but thus far has been favoring color balance within what their inventory allows, with avatars made with a general theme in mind, typically making use of a centerpiece or starting item that the outfit is based upon.

Gallagher 06-21-2016 11:27 PM

Oh, and the vast majority of users have few, if any, differences between avatars they would wear around the forums and avatars used for contests. Users like myself that have strict and separate definitions for the two are few and far between.

Hum, well. I actually never thought about a lot of those things before. Items fitting together vs colors vs themes. Although the contest bit makes things somewhat tougher o~o
I'll go with Pessimisticat this time, if only because I feel like it's very orange-y

Probably wrong, but slow elimination. Also, back from 24 hours of sinus-based sickness. :)

Galla I never realized that you knew me so well….. And yes I mostly pick out a color, or theme and methodically go through my inventory adding on item after item until I am happy.

Gallagher 06-22-2016 02:37 PM

Haha, yeah I can be kind of creepy about avatars. I absolutely adore participating in really serious avi contests, but they just don't really happen around here.

On that note, it's also why this round is a lot harder than the first. People know what other people's perceptions of them are, and can try to throw them off.

EDIT: I have two people in mind for #4. Can't decide on which.
Also, it might be interesting to consider the rarity and age of certain items. Just saying.

Tiva 06-22-2016 03:42 PM

I have a few ideas as well but I don't think we can play since our names are on the stage board.

Espy 06-22-2016 03:53 PM

...That sucks for people who don't actually have an avatar up there, though?

You can play!
I did last round :)
I just decided not to this time since that might give away who I am, lol. Or, at least make it easier for people to guess ;)

Old items…. lots of Espy items.

Potironette 06-22-2016 04:43 PM

Thinking about it now, I realize that there are times when I mistake someone for someone else based on their avatar <_<'. I did it a lot when I first joined, and I still do it--though less--now.

Hmm...I don't recognize much of the stuff on number 4 and 2...except the backgrounds...
Number 1 has several early Nox items...
Number 3 looks like mostly older stuff...
Number 5 has some newer items...

Athilea Majiri 06-22-2016 07:39 PM

Sorry that I haven't been on yet today. I'm going through the guesses to see what is correct and what is not.

Athilea Majiri 06-22-2016 07:44 PM

I am sorry Potironette but that is not correct. Keep trying though!

Lawtan you are correct, number 5 is Espy! You will get 10 tickets, and Espy will ger 5 tickets!

That is right Espy number 3 is Lawton. I think it's interesting that you both guessed one another! You will get 10 tickets and Lawton will ger 5 tickets.

Tiva I am sorry, but that is not correct. Keep trying though!

Lawtan 06-22-2016 08:15 PM

:D
Good job, Espy!

Tiva 06-22-2016 08:45 PM

Eh it was a toss up on Espy being one of those two, Old item age...

Lawtan 06-22-2016 09:11 PM

I actually noticed that it is a bit more difficult to make "creatures/automatons" - what I consider Galla's contest avatars and what I was attempting to make - with newer items

(A sort of junkyard winged door guard)

Vincent 06-22-2016 09:23 PM

Wow Lawman that looks really interesting o-o

Hi everyone~

Athilea Majiri 06-22-2016 09:31 PM

It was a good guess Tiva!

Athilea Majiri 06-22-2016 09:32 PM

I really like it Lawton.

Gallagher 06-22-2016 09:49 PM

Law - yeah, a lot of the items made before we had the baseless option can have really interesting appearances when you isolate them. one of my favorites that i ever made was mostly done with sleeves and capes.

I wasn't sure if it was yours or not. xD

...I am curious at what gave me away...
