I always managed to fuck up my Yo-Yos. They were always pretty cheap quality so the string always twisted. I still have the last one I ever got. I had like two but I think one broke.
Totally of topic, but does anyone still own something that has a specific smell that brings them back to a certain memory? I have this empty bottle of perfume that my cousin gave me back when I was younger. I can open the lid and sniff the spritzer that still smells like the perfume and get a memory flashback. I had that with a certain smell of deodorant too. |

as a child. . . my grandfather really fell into the beanie baby craze. He would pick me up from school and I would be dragged on a daily route to several different stores to try and get 5 copies of every single beanie. We would go to strange places that happened to be raffling off rare ones to see if we could win. My cousin did manage to win the Princess Diana bear at one of those. We went to Canada on vacation and found a store that if you bought $120 of beanie babies, you got Maple bear for free. When the tiny ones came out at McDonalds - my grandpa bought so many happy meals they filled our freezer and we ate heated up happy meals for weeks. I spent hours helping him put tag protectors on every beanie and sorting them and counting and making sure we had 5 of each one. Any time news came up about one maybe having a weird print or something, they all came back out so we could see. Supposedly one day I will inherit one entire set. This is my story, this is my life. |
Oh lord the Teenie Beanie Babies...we did that kinda too. Every week we'd get two Kid's meals so my mom and I could each have a set. We got the second set completed but not the last one. It was tiny burgers and fries every week ._. I also have a pretty decent collection of the bigger ones. Most are in cases and have tag protectors.

I was big into babies as a kid, but I grew out of it. But I did inherit the one collection I always wanted when my mom passed.
Her Disney Grolier Christmas ornaments. It's not a full set yet. She and my dad had trouble tracking down all of them because the collection would release I think 4 ornaments a year, but each member could only choose 3 ornaments. I did find all the missing ones on ebay a few years ago, but I can't afford them currently. |
I never actually heard of those ornaments, but I think we still have some REALLY old ones from before even I was born in storage containers. Not sure if they worth anything or not. All looks like junk to me XD

They are THE BEST Disney ornaments, in my opinion. I'll probably take some pics when. I dig them out of my closet on Thanksgiving.

Sure by all means. I'd love to see em. We did have some special spun glass ornaments we used to put out on our tree. It was a whole set of them. Sadly during moving from our old house to this one, most of them ended up getting broke.
Let's see what other things I can dig out of my bag of nostalgia. Thankfully Youtube has been a great source of rewatching some really old shows that I used to watch as a kid. I did find Eureeka's Castle, and also Today's Special. I saw some videos of the Elephant Show also, in the recommended section. I might look up Lambchop's Sing-Along, that one was always fun. Did anyone ever have..I think it was called like Baby Surprise? It was a doll that you didn't know the gender of until you revealed it by soaking something in water? Then you got it's name and gender and it came with diapers and stuff. I had like the animal versions too. The animal versions were stuffed animals with hard plastic faces. I also had a Baby Alive, which was hallowed out and rubbery and you filled it with warm water to simulate a "real" baby. You know I noticed how creepy a lot of my toys were as a kid. Most's premise was legit but the actual outcome could be terrifying. I even had a "My Kid Sister". I had to hide her in the closet after a while because she was kinda creepy. ._. |
I had a limited edition furby with the checkerboard belly. I looked it up on eBay and it was worth an asinine amount. It's too bad it got beaten up and tossed out. I wanted to keep that thing forever.

I wouldn't know anyone who'd want to have them now and pay an insane amount of $ to get it. The newer ones are a little *less* creepy, but I think Furby is always going to be nightmare fuel.

AH the old days of the internet. Gosh that's so much of a throwback to me. How things were so primitave with web pages and there was really only so much you can do. Pictures weren't really a thing and songs were just clips instead of full songs. No moving video until MUCH later.

OMG! I was just leafing through the TV guide right now and saw Blossom on one of the channels. I brought up the info to see if it was the old show and Blossom is played by Mayim Bialik. Wasn't expecting that. The show was still pretty amusing but the laugh track is killing me.

I have been finding more things on Youtube that I remember. I have been watching Today's Special, which was an old 80's Nickelodeon show, as well as the Litll' Bits which was basically an anime. I also found that one I mentioned before. Called Fred Penner's Place. Didn't start out how I remember, unless the one I saw was an older intro.

You mentioning them changing the toys to make them safer/ more marketable to the younger generation now made me remember that I once swallowed a Polly Pocket on a dare.
I remember playing Crash Bandicoot when it first came out on original Playstation. I also remember when Pizza Hut used to do the Book-It program and would give you a small pizza if you read a certain number of books each month. |

I knew of Ren and Stimpy before seeing it on TV because of older siblings of questionable influence. I found the Doug theme song kind of annoying but super easy to sing.

I still have a lot of my old toys, definitely still have several of my old Polly Pockets and old issues of Disney Adventure, Nickelodeon Magazine and Nintendo Power kicking around here.
I watched a lot of TV so I was a big fan of Nicktoons, Cartoon Cartoons and Toon Disney. I also loved stuff like All That, Kenan and Kel, The Amanda Show, Clarissa Explains it All, The Adventures of Pete and Pete. I don't think I watched most of the Disney live action shows though, mostly the Nick ones. I also was a huge fan of Full House, Fresh Prince, Saved By the Bell and Home Improvement. I loved Beavis and Butthead but my mom didn't allow me to watch it so I only got to watch it when I was spending spring/summer vacation with my father until I moved in with him permanently, haha. I also finally watched Daria in the early 00s and I'm a big fan of both still. My first system of my own was a SNES and I remember when I got a N64 in 1997 I thought the graphics were so amazing.... hahaha. I still have all my old game systems and the same TV I played them on back in the 90s. I had the My Little Pony Movie on VHS and watched it a ton, also some 80s cartoon episodes from like Care Bears and Rainbow Brite that my mom had recorded from TV I remember watching as well. I could go on forever though. Feels so long ago now. ;_; |
I remember looking at Ocarina of Time and being amazed, and now it's like "...I'm a humanoid cube."
Just nattering with mom about the Gund stuffed animals i used to get, and I don't know if this is a 90's thing or just my experience but I miss the days when there were whole stores devoted to stuffed animals. They all seem to be gaming stores, now. |
I don't think I've ever been to a stuffed animal store, but it sounds great.
Also I can't believe I forgot to mention Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain and Tiny Toon Adventures. I've rewatched them as an adult and I think they're still great. Stuff like Animaniacs is even better cause there are innuendos and references that go over your head as a child. Are Scholastic school book fairs still a thing? I remember my mom would give me some money so I could buy a few books and erasers shaped like cats and glittery posters with cats, and such. The last time I went was in middle school I think. I bought a Simpsons comic book that I still have on my bookshelf now. |

did you ever see the rainbow brite movie? my friend had it on VHS and it was litereally the scariest thing to me. there was this scene where her horse gets stuck in this black guck and it was so scary.
i found it on netflix like a year ago and watched it and decided that that scene is still scary as hell. |

One of my favorite parts of the book is that each chapter begins with a different letter of the alphabet, starting with A and going all the way to Z and IT MAKES SENSE WITH THE STORY.
Which is especially interesting to me because the author was German. |
