I did. Twice, I believe. Interesting game. Very unique flavor to the world. My only problem with it was that I didn't really like any of the companions.
|
I've played it about twice too. I really love the concept of the ancient Chinese world, and the storyline was fun to play. And I agree about the companions, they weren't really relatable. Although I like Black Whirlwind and one other dude, but I can't remember his name. o u o |
That about says it all, I think. :p Their personalities just weren't really memorable, not like most of Bioware's other NPCs.
|
What's Jade Empire? Heard of it. Strategy or Third person RPG?
|
I've played Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II, loved them so much~ I recently got my hand on Mass Effect, the first and second, due to the Steam summer same. *o* I played a bit of the first one, and quite like it so far, so I hope to complete it sooooon.
I'm still upset about the battles with the mages at the end of Dragon Age II, though. *snort* D; |
Quiet, Jade Empire is a third-person RPG with a wuxia martial arts theme. Very creative and original, with a highly immersive setting. I dare say you might like it. It's even on the PC. :p
|
@Suzerain of Sheol; I agree completely! xD I really loved it though, and it inspired me to write a story, so I'm happy. xD @Taki; I love all of those games! You won't be disappointed with Mass Effect, I promise. xD And I know right? I'm still upset about that battle.. And losing Orsino. Dx Meredith was way creepy, man... |
I keep trying to get myself to start playing Mass Effect 2 today. Haven't managed it yet, 'tis a lot of effort to dig it out of my game drawer, and all. :p
Perhaps after lunch.... |
Dweller, good. XD
and yeah, those mages. It would have been fine if they didn't make it look like those mages were ONLY A CERTAIN KIND~ I hated Meredith. xD SHE WAS A CRAZY BITCH. |
I LOVE most of Bioware's games. I was hugely dissappointed in Dragon Age 2. Even Dragon Age one was under par, but at least it was fun. The graphics were just not what they should have been with games like Mass Effect out. And Dragon Age 2 was just a roller coaster of the same rooms over and over again.
|
I'd fault Dragon Age's somewhat ponderous and repetitive gameplay over it's graphics, mostly because... graphics? Who cares. This is Bioware, the company that gave us Baldur's Gate, which is still at least as good as any of their more recent releases.
Granted, Mass Effect was pretty awesome in the graphics department; felt like I was watching a movie half the time, but it was the story and gameplay I stayed for. And... the second one is still sitting in my drawer unplayed. Sigh. |
I thought DA2 was awesome. But yes, fun. xD I loved both, but I enjoyed my mages/rogues so much more in the second one.
|
I haven't gotten the chance for Mass Effect 2 yet but from what I hear the game is good. I love the DA games for bioware so I'm sure I'll like ME te graphics I've seen for ME2 are just drool worthy..
|
I'm looking forward to trying out ME2 *o* I just want to finish the first one if possible.
|
All I've played is Dragon Age from them (I think) which I liked.
@Suzerain Almost every single game has repetitive gameplay. I wouldn't want that changing a lot....if I took a break I wouldn't remember how to play anymore D: And it's more about the story for me than the gameplay. (Though that can't suck too much balls and me still play the game lol) |
I'll definately take a look for Jade Empire when I'm next out and about, though I have no idea of when that might be. I have seen it around in a few places, though mostly on console I think.
I do in fact like console games (Champions of Norath is great fun multi-player :D) but most of my consoles tend to be out of date or I don't have the right ones. I have a Wii and a PS2. 'Tis all. |
My friend has recently gotten me to love Bioware.
I really wanna play Mass Effect. ;w; I've only so far played Dragon Age. |
Well, I finally started Mass Effect 2, and... I'm liking it. A lot. Even though the RPG elements are way toned down, overall, it just feels a lot more polished than the first game. I love to new cover mechanic, and the battles so far all feel more tactical and evolving, which is awesome. I just finished rescuing Garrus, and that battle was one of the most exhilarating game-experiences I've had in a long, long time.
|
That is awesome to hear~ I should try completing the first one so I can get into ME2. XD I don't feel right just skipping it, lol.
|
╔═════════════════════════════════╗ (。◕‿◕。) I haven't play any of their games but I did watch my husband play both Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2 and they are incredible games. They are gorgeous and really gripping. I am still considering playing Dragon Age Origins and Awakening but I'm not sure yet. It still kinda frightens me because of the final battle, I saw how hard my husband worked on the entire game and how much he struggled with the fights that I'm not sure if I can handle it. But they are nice to watch. ╚═════════════════════════════════╝ |
Wow I'm glad to see everyone chatting!
Let's see if I can reply to most of these.. Dx @Taki; She was insane!!! Creeped me out!!! Dx And doooo start ME2! It's Fan. Tastic. @Suzerain; I know, right? It really is a fantastic game. It's just great! The Garrus mission was really fantastic as well, I agree. One of my favorite parts of the whole game! @Airu; PLay Mass Effect nooowwww, It's great! xD @Saiyouri; GO ahead and play! Try it on casual, you can do it. ^^ |
I have to decide what game I want now. Never did get around to finishing Baldur's Gate 1 and my Icewind Dale copy doesnt work, so what do I do? Go with Dragon Age 1 (my brother's copy) or restart Baldur's Gate 1? (Still sour about losing my uber game but it's been long enough that I'll survive playing through the oft repeated beginning again, and Cloakwood was really fun :D. I has just finished that part and was returning to Candlekeep when the computer died.
|
╔═════════════════════════════════╗ (。◕‿◕。) Hehe I might Dweller. My hubby bought it through Steam and I can easily download the program and install it on my laptop. It's be easier for me to do it that way since my son has like 5 characters going at once on the 360 copy >.>; ╚═════════════════════════════════╝ |
@Quiet; Honestly I've neve rplayed Baldur's gate and I'm horrible at finishing games, but I think you should restart Baldur's gate and then go for Dragon Age~ Cuz I'd be procrastinating like heck! xD @Saiyouri; Oh gawsh, yeah that sounds a billion times easier. Dx Although I have like that many characters too, because I wanted to see all of the possible openings. xD But yeah you should play, and then let me know what you think! ^^ |
╔═════════════════════════════════╗ (。◕‿◕。) Ok. After we move I'll give it a try. ^^ ╚═════════════════════════════════╝ |
*Hopes Baldur's Gate copy is functional.*
The Baldur's Gate story is quite neat. I'm a do/explore everything type of player so I'm not sure how long the game takes if you actually make efforts to finish it without too much dawdling. The expansion, Tales of the Sword Coast, brings in a massive dungeon called Durlag's Tower that you get to explore once the game is finished. It's harsh from what I hear, and has features like a living chess board to get through. It's a Forgotten Realms world game, so people familiar with the Forgotten Realms DnD setting (Neverwinter Nights is set there, along with Icewind Dale) will likely recognize some characters and places. They systems are different though since NWN uses 3e DnD rules (I think) and BG and IWD use the rules from ADnD (ie. THAC0). There are a few different details (like the lower the armour number, the better in ADnD) but I don't think it's that hard to follow. |
I can't play BG anymore, I find, even though I finally have a copy that works. IWD either, really. They just feel so archaic and limiting. AD&D was so lacking in character options compared to 3.X. And IWD2's attempt to translate 3.0 to a video game was just a disaster. Luckily, they figured out what they were doing in NWN.
Also, whilst on the subject on DnD games, ever play Pool of Radiance (the newer version, I believe, though it's still really old now). Another 3.0 failure of a game, and extraordinarily hard on top of that. Which actually made it kind of fun.... |
Heard of it, never played.
I thougth NWN predated IWD2? I remember my brother playing it when I was still playing IWD, but then I hardly care about how old my game is. I was fine with the old ADnD classes, since I don't really play those games for character options. I remember helping my stepbrother through the early stages of NWN because he had no clue what third edition was, and this "feat" business and such, so I was giving him a basic rundown as we went. |
Could be. They were both 3.0, but NWN implemented the rules a lot better. Even still, NWN2 remains the definitive DnD experience for me. And probably my favorite Bioware game.
|
@Saiyouri: Awesome! ^^ I don't think you'd regret it.
@Quiet Man Cometh; Once I get some money I should see if I can get my hands ona copy! It sounds like a lot of fun. I've never played DnD or Forgotten Realms before though. o u o |
It doesn't really matter so much, though ADnD stats are somewhat counter intuitive. Generally speaking, the lower the number, the better. Low armour, low THAC0 (your ability to hit something) etc. I never really did pay too much attention to statistics in that game and I was playing it before I was a regular in DnD.
|
Ah, well that's awesome then!
Although this THAC0 doesn't sound very nice. I think there was something like that in Morrowind? Like not all hits landed? I hated that. o u o |
It's not really any different, functionally, than the system in KotOR, it's just flipped around so lower is better. Most RPGs have a percentage chance to miss with attacks. Granted, I don't like that sort of thing in action RPGs either, but Action RPGs these are not. Oldschool to the core.
|
Oh! Okay yeah I get it now. I do remember KotOR was like that, and it didn't bug me much.
I should really try this game out, it sounds like a lot of fun. (But first I gotta finish up this Oblivion Playthrough I'm doing. o u o) |
THAC0 is particular to ADnD and means "to hit armour class 0" and that opens up a whole new pile of explanation to define. It was a round-about way of calculating whether or not an attack hit, and was gotten rid of for later editions. It's affected by level, class, and weapons as well. The higher your level, the better you are, the better the weapons, the better you are. Mage THAC0 sucks, Fighter THAC0 good. THAC0 of course only applies really to physical attacks so a mage having sucky THAC0 doesn't matter as much unless they go after a bad guy with a dagger or something.
|
Ah okay! That doesn't sound all that bad, it actually sounds pretty sophisticated. xD Thanks for describing it for me by the way. ^^
|
You're welcome. Feel free to ask if you get the game and find things tripping you up.
Oh, and one other thing to know, if you do happen to want the expansion at any point, know that characters created with the original game won't work in the game once the expansion is added, at least as far as I know, though there may be an import technique that I missed. The expansion is really an add on (Tales of the Sword Coast it's called). You'd need to start a new game to play with the add on since it alters the map among other things. |
Do keep in mind that Baldur's Gate and IWD are not friendly to 64-bit Windows at all. They're really difficult to get running properly.
|
Umm, not computer savvy enough to know what you mean. Processer speed?
|
No, I mean Windows Vista and Windows 7. I can't seem to get my BG game to run in W7 at all.
