Lost_Ninja9213 01-04-2012 01:50 AM

ooooh yess he is a great character!!! on another note, i saw a crew boat named Beorn last year (i used to row) I think the team's school mascot was a bear, so thats why XD made me really excited and i pointed it out to everyone.

Suzerain of Sheol 01-04-2012 01:52 AM

Pretty sure, not positive, that Beorn is either Old Norse or Old English for Bear. Or at least related to the word.

Lost_Ninja9213 01-04-2012 01:55 AM

oooh ok that makes sense, though the coach being a hobbit fan would be nice too XD oh man its late...but i need currency. what did you think of children of hurin, btw?

Suzerain of Sheol 01-04-2012 01:58 AM

Well, I kind of did it wrong and read CoH right after LotR, so I didn't really understand it that well. I really ought to go back and read it now that I know the setting's history inside out.

I do like the tale of Turin Turambar, though. He's a really complex character for Tolkien, another reason why I like the expanded material more than the "core" books -- they do away with the basic black-and-white morality in LotR and the Hobbit.

Lost_Ninja9213 01-04-2012 02:00 AM

that was interesting, i was shocked at some of the stuff that happened in that book....

Suzerain of Sheol 01-04-2012 02:03 AM

And yet, it's Turin who is prophesied to finally, utterly defeat Morgoth in the Dagor Dagorath. Says a lot about Tolkien's conception of a hero.

Though, as far as shocking moments go, for me, I have to say, Feanor takes the cake. Sure didn't expect an elf to behave that way after just reading LotR. :p

Lost_Ninja9213 01-04-2012 02:05 AM

hmmm i dont remember a lot from any of the books. who was that again?

Suzerain of Sheol 01-04-2012 02:06 AM

Feanor? The guy who crafted the Silmarils. Vengeful, jealous, venal, wrathful, given to making really stupid oaths... he's quite a guy. :p

And he's the paragon elf, besides. :D

Lost_Ninja9213 01-04-2012 02:19 AM

*still confused* he doesnt sound too nice though XP paragon? *hangs head at lack of knowledge*

Suzerain of Sheol 01-04-2012 02:20 AM

Oh, paragon is the best example of something.

And Feanor is mainly in the Silmarillion. That book is more or less the story of his family, once you get past the Genesis type part in the beginning.

Quiet Man Cometh 01-04-2012 02:23 AM

I'm still in thr Genesis type beginning. I think Illuviat has given the world to the gods to shape and Morgoth is not playing nice.

Lost_Ninja9213 01-04-2012 02:24 AM

oooh ok. yeah i skipped to one chapter in the middle (forget which, its been years) i think it had some kind of....dogs. wargs maybe. or maybe that was a different book entirely..

Ducky 01-04-2012 04:10 AM

Now this conversation has taken a direction I know nothing about xD All i've read is the Hobbit, LotR trilogy and Farmer Giles of Ham. I've avoided other ones as I'm not to bothered about Lore and such.

Alpha 01-04-2012 11:25 AM

I started on the Hobbit years ago, but the book was stolen before I could ever finish it. It saddened me greatly.

Lost_Ninja9213 01-04-2012 12:45 PM

I have two copies XP Started trying to memorize the whole book but i ended up forgetting about the whole project soon after

Suzerain of Sheol 01-04-2012 12:47 PM

Hmm, we had a thread for such discussions in the books forum a while back. Perhaps I should go revive it so we don't confuse Ducky any farther? :p

Ducky 01-04-2012 04:37 PM

I'm fine with you having the conversations here, I just wont have much in the way of input.

Drakath 01-04-2012 06:10 PM

OH GOD I HAVE BEEN WAITING
It looks amazing.

Ducky 01-06-2012 01:11 PM

You still have to wait almost an entire year, and that's only for the first half.

If only the production hadn't been stopped and cancelled so much..

Suzerain of Sheol 01-06-2012 09:47 PM

Um...

Um, um...

WHAT??

If I'm deciphering that guy's confused babble correctly (glad the actor is so in touch with the material he has a significant role in...) SAURON HIMSELF is going to take an active role in the Battle of Five Armies?

Um... I don't even...

I'm going to pretend the guy just has no idea what he's talking about. :)

Yep. We're all good here. Poor confused actor guy. :)

Lost_Ninja9213 01-07-2012 12:06 AM

gah. no. he must be an idiot yes. and i got really annoyed with all those delays too -_-

Suzerain of Sheol 01-07-2012 12:14 AM

That is just such a mind-bogglingly awful idea, I simply cannot believe it's true. The number of plotholes that would create, just within the context of films themselves, is ridiculous.

Wait, maybe this is Fridge Brilliance, since in Jackson's Middle-Earth, during the War of the Ring, Sauron is a disembodied eye unable to take corporeal form. Maybe he lost the body he had during the Third Age in a cataclysmic duel with the White Council during the Battle of the Five Armies.

That... is so absurd, it almost makes sense. :\

Lost_Ninja9213 01-07-2012 03:41 PM

eurgh. they cant. well...they can, but even i would have huge problems with that, and usually i give some leeway for movies based off of books...

Ducky 01-07-2012 05:33 PM

I will give them the benefit of the doubt until I actually see it :/

Lost_Ninja9213 01-07-2012 06:07 PM

thats a good way to do it ^_^ i think being over-anxious about possible problems isnt really a good idea....i do think itll be a good movie though, despite the inevitable changes that will be made

Ducky 01-07-2012 06:13 PM

especially since there's almost an entire year for these doubts get their roots in and grow. It could potentially ruin the whole experience when it finally comes around.

Lost_Ninja9213 01-07-2012 06:17 PM

oh definitely. what im mostly worried about is if im working at one of the movie theatres im applying to, then i might miss the midnight premiere due to work D: because i definitely want to dress up for that XD
edit: (offtopic) creeping through the forums looking for somewhere to post, saw youre on Zantarni? i might have some stuff left from there i can give you if youre active

Ducky 01-07-2012 06:24 PM

I thin it's one of the few things i'd go to a midnight screening of. I would like to dress up, but have no idea who i'd be xD

I'm active yes, with the 9th highest psot count and one of the largest topics XD The thing is I'm currently donating my entire inventory to everyone, so i don't really have a need for it. But if you're only wanting to get your items back into circulation i can distribute them along with my invo?

Lost_Ninja9213 01-07-2012 06:28 PM

i dont have very rare items, sold those long ago....but if you'll take them then ok :P i just lost interest in the site, it was nice though. edit: i think thats eveything...also, i hadnt been on in years, but seeing the cloaked jackal art, i think i actually remember you a bit! XP

i have no idea who to dress as either, maybe just generic lotr world clothes

Ducky 01-07-2012 06:31 PM

I'm pretty sure I've actually seen you around there before. I certainly remember the username. It may only have been from back reading through the forums though.

Lost_Ninja9213 01-07-2012 06:34 PM

i wasnt in many threads at all, but there was one hangout-type thread i stayed in...maybe it was there. anyhow, thanks for taking the stuff!!! i hate having items/currency rotting in my various accounts..

Ducky 01-07-2012 06:36 PM

No problem. I'll make sure they go to a bunch of people :D

Lost_Ninja9213 01-07-2012 06:39 PM

yay! ^_^ lol i dont think ill be leaving tris though anytime soon....i do like it here, and the art is beautiful!!!

Ducky 01-07-2012 06:42 PM

I'm currently much more active on here than Zan, but i'll never truly quit Zan as I've been there since '07, and has a lot of meaning to me.

Lost_Ninja9213 01-07-2012 06:48 PM

it was difficult for me to leave mene, but id seen a knuffel on someones signature, and ended up not coming back for a long time...then i realized i didnt actually talk to anyone there, but since id been there a few years theres the nostalgia...same with gaia, though ill go on and do puzzles there XP

Ducky 01-07-2012 06:49 PM

Zan changed my life in quite a few ways. I even went as far as to live in America with a friend i met on there for 8 weeks (I'm from Scotland) there are many memories and still many friends for me there.

Lost_Ninja9213 01-07-2012 06:56 PM

oh wow!!! ive never actually met anyone ive met online, though ive gotten friends and my sister to join a couple sites XP

Ducky 01-07-2012 06:59 PM

I've met 5 friends from the internet, and I should be adding a few more to that pretty soon :3

I would love to gather all my internet friends and go the the Hobbit Midnight showing with them xD

Lost_Ninja9213 01-07-2012 07:03 PM

lol that would be cool!!! and have everyone dress up with something that stands out so you all can be recognized? XD ill probably bring my college friends with me next december...

Ducky 01-07-2012 07:04 PM
