Quiet Man Cometh 08-31-2012 05:39 PM

Oh dear, Halloween *is* coming isn't it? And in my view it's never too early to start talking about a holiday, especially if you're the one who has to plan it. -.-

That's not me, fortunately, but it can take me months to think of an idea and then longer ot put it together. I've wanted to be the MC from Cabaret for about three years now but haven't managed to put the pieces together.

My cousin would hold a party each year on the weekend closest to the date and that was his thing for the family. I kept costume parts on hand since when I was showing dogs the largest show in Western Canada was on Halloween weekend so I used to go partly in costume or find one in 10 minuets when I got home, then went straight to the party. My friend and I were master's of the 10 minute costume since I lost my back-up kitty ears and tail. I have new ones now. ;).

I might get called into the local party shop for work since I was there as a seasonal employee last time. It probably wouldn't hurt to remind them that I'm available since I need the work.

I have some spikced pumkpin tea my friend gave me, but we don't usually have "Halloween" foods besides what people bring to the parties, like marshmallow ghost cookies. We save the food part for Thanksgiving, which for Canada is in October.

My niece sometimes holds a costume party since her birthday is on Oct. 29th. It remains to seen what happens this year.

I usually made costumes for my pets but it's usually something comfortable and not too intrusive. Our springer spaniel was incredibly fond of shirts and sweaters for some reason, so we used our old kiddy bee costume and reversed the chest patch so it fit on her back and attached the wings. She seemed to think this was a dandy thing! My cavalier spaniel I made a cloack for from the hood to a cape I used to make demon wings on year. The only dog in the house now is my brother's and I don't think he'll appreciate a costume too much. He's already not keen on collars.

One of my favourite costumes was a "sorceress" (NOT a witch ;)) costume my step sister and I made ourselves that were matching, and I had a pet rat at the time so he sat on my shoulder while I was handing out candy. That was fun. :)

I WAIT. ALL YEAR. FOR THEIR COFFEE.
I dont drink coffee outside my own coffee pot, and every year they release theirs to the grocery stores. <3

They also have pumpkin creamer to go with it. And I'm just like.. FUCK. YES.

Belial 08-31-2012 06:06 PM

There is a place in CA that I adore even though I don't live in CA.
Noah's Bagels

Each fall they have the most amazing pumpkin spice cream cheese I have every tasted. Put it on a Cinnamon roll bagel and its heaven!

Batty 08-31-2012 06:18 PM

Mmm... Cinnamon and Pumpkin...

Philadelphia has some pumpkin cream cheese... I never did try it, I bought it for Zane though! We're pumpkins NUTS in my house.

Belial 08-31-2012 06:21 PM

So am I, last year I even had this stuff called Pumpkin bark. One side was dark chocolate and the other side pumpkin flavored white chocolate.
I like making spiced apple cider also, then heating it up on those chilly fall days.

With a S'mores maker.

Batty 08-31-2012 06:23 PM

Belial. Will you marry me?

Belial 08-31-2012 07:05 PM

If you bring something to the tea party I'm having.

Batty 08-31-2012 07:06 PM

But of course, love!
Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea sound okay with you? <3

I can also bring a Pumpkin Spice pudding pie, with homemade graham cracker crust!

Belial 08-31-2012 07:07 PM

Sure does, I'll save you a seat!

Batty 08-31-2012 07:16 PM

YAYYYY!

I make all the best Halloween treats!

Belial 08-31-2012 07:24 PM

*plans to pilfer all of Batty's recipes*

Tohopekaliga 08-31-2012 08:02 PM

My halloween treats are created by traveling to Publix (best grocery store around) and buying stuff. Done! :D

Batty 08-31-2012 08:03 PM

Toho;; YOU SHOP AT PUBELIX TOO?!?!

You a Floridian, or are you a Georgian? =O
[unless they've moved farther up now]

Tohopekaliga 08-31-2012 08:05 PM

Publix is also in SC, AL, and...TN, I believe. :3

But I'm in Florida.

Batty 09-08-2012 05:32 PM

Where in Florida? =O

And I just painted my nails and toes orange and black<3

Tohopekaliga 09-09-2012 12:18 PM

XD Good colors...But a touch early, isn't it?

I live in Orlando. :3

Amethyst 09-09-2012 04:54 PM

We just bought a crapload of decorations from the Dollar Tree. They had some pretty awesome stuff actually lol. I got a lot of tombstones and some bones and skulls so I'm gonna make a cemetary. Just gotta make or buy a grim reaper or maybe get a large skelenton.
I love Halloween, and my boyfriend and I are moving into our first house next week, so I can go all out more then I could have here in our little apartment. :)
Not sure if I want to be a Mad Hatter, or a Candy Corn Witch, Or maybe even Alice.

Poggio 09-09-2012 07:13 PM

@.@ The place where I work is always one season ahead. We have already started getting christmas stock. I do not mind halloween when i was a kid. It meant so much free candy I could run up a 1000 dollar dentist bill. Now I am not so into it. I do not mind going over a friends house and watching scary movies or working to watch the people make costumes and such. But this holiday is not for me.

P.S october is also breast cancer awareness month. At least it is when my city has its major walk.

Echo-chan713 09-09-2012 07:20 PM

Halloween decorations and costumes is already up in Walmart, Walgreen, the dollar store., etc. so hence its not too early for Halloween *dresses as zombie

Quiet Man Cometh 09-09-2012 11:05 PM

I'm still looking at the box of halloween stuff I bought at the halloween store I worked at last year and never got around to putting away. Well, at least I have stuff, even if all I do is wear the cow hat.

I need to go to value village to see if I can find a black waist coat and some manner of showy cane. The pimp canes at the store were not what I was particularly looking for.

Batty 09-10-2012 12:05 AM

Too early? Pft, NOT EVEN!
Halloween is everyday for me. <3

And... I live in Ft.lauderdale.

destituteKinsmen 09-10-2012 07:42 PM

Oh gog, I just love Halloween. I stopped going trick-or-treating when I reached Junior high. (Mainly because my parents did not want to deal with that.) But I love to sew, so I would still make a costume and wear it to school. Last year I was Sailor Moon and even had the crescent wand. : 33 I also, made my bunny a Sailor flying mint bunny costume.
I am not going to dress up this year, but I am going to make my bunny a costume again. I still need an idea though.

I LOVE Halloween. Just found out that a friend is having a D&D-themed party, which means I can wear the cloak I bought at the renaissance faire somewhere else XD

Looking forward to pumpkin-flavored everything, also. (Except pie. Oddly I don't really like pumpkin pie...)

Tiva 09-11-2012 01:09 PM

I need to start sewing my skirt some time this week and do a mock up of the make up... and the wristlets...

AcidDrop 09-11-2012 04:08 PM

oooooooooooo i can't wait! i love halloween. i normally just get all dressed up and go down the pub with some friends.. sounds boring i know, but it is fun!!

TaAshe 09-11-2012 04:19 PM

Halloween is quite possibly my most favorite holiday next to Christmas. I love dressing up for it. It's so fun for me to pretend to be someone else for a night. I would so go trick or treating if only I weren't twenty one and without any kids to take trick or treating. *sigh* It's times like these I wish I were a kid again. Hmm... I do get mistaken for 13 - 14 a lot maybe I could pull off trick or treating still. I really could go for a popcorn ball with candy corn on the side too. I love the decorations also heck if my mom let me waste a bunch of money on Halloween decor I would in a heart beat.

I was an elven mage one year. Confused most of my relatives. I did get some votes in the costume contest though. My mother made me a cloak for the purpose. ;). I still have it, and the vest that I wore. Don't think I fit the vest anymore though.

Winner of the costume contest that year was a friend who came in the black double faced costume from Amadeus. That was pretty cool.

Maggot 09-11-2012 06:07 PM

Candy corn, definitely have to have some candy corn. Maybe some pumpkin pie, but it's not my favorite.

Batty 09-11-2012 10:54 PM

I know when stores start putting out candy corn, that its time.. <3

-SQUEALS AND FLAILS LIKE A MADWOMAN-

Amethyst 09-11-2012 11:33 PM

I need a sewing machine. I was gonna dress up as a gothic mad hatter, but I'm too big for the costumes I've seen online so far. >< Plus they are crazy expensive. (not to mention mostly for men.)
Think I might just tease my hair, wear my little black dress, buy some orange stripped stockings, and wear my candy corn costume and buy a cheap kmart witches hat and be a candy corn witch. ><

Lestrade 09-12-2012 12:29 AM

Thrift stores are really awesome resources as long as you're willing to spend time to really look around ahead of time.

Amethyst 09-12-2012 12:58 AM

I hadn't thought of that!! Thank you.

woopdidoodoo 09-12-2012 01:28 AM

omg I adore Halloween but generally have only celebrated it online as Australians don't really celebrate it all that much, we do get decorations but people don't go all out with trick or treating and party's for whatever reason but I get into the spirit of things online with events and such

Tiva 09-12-2012 01:57 AM

Yeah i found an awesome over dress to go with a skirt. I am considering doing that for walking around campus instead of my actual costume.

Night Fury 09-12-2012 08:05 AM

And so the title of the thread entails that I start thinking
of Nightmare Before Christmas
"This is Halloween" *hums melody*

not only did the melody play over and over again on my Kingdom Heart games
but one of my sisters used to love the show to a point I'd see it playing everyday, year after year, sometimes she'd watch it over and over in a day, from around a little before Halloween to Christmas day, well till the VHS started to go bad then a few years went by and she got the dvd and music cd

hmm anymore I just pass candy out with my neighbor but this next year I don't know will be different not sure if they will have a new house by then... didn't realize before then there are so many adults with babies and they try go trick or treating to get themselves some free candy... -_-; neighbor doesn't allow it but anyway
likes dressing up to pass out the candy though it's kind of fun likes to see the smiling faces of the kids that come =)
