"Yep." Mail nodded. "Well, sorta."
Suddenly the white-haired boy grew very quiet, looking away.
"...Sorry." Mail offered.
"Perhaps I should avoid learning about this time," Near mumbled. "Or anything in relation to the Kira Case."
"So...is like...the Kira case real where you come from?" Mail asked curiously.
"I don't believe I should reveal that information if Mail doesn't already know the answer," Near informed.
"I just wanted to know if you were fictional character or not." Mail shrugged.
Near's lips curved downward. "Obviously not. I am right beside Mail, aren't I?"
"That doesn't make you real, babe." Mail smirked.
"Mail's friends all witnessed my existence," Near scoffed. "I am no illusion."
"Yeah, but is Near a real person or are you just out of a bad TV show?" Mail asked flatly.
"I am quite real," Near informed, calming a bit. "And your attempts to get me to tell you things with the focus of 'matching them up as examples' will not work."
"Actually, I was waiting for you to offer to go to England and find out if there even is a orphanage there." Mail stopped a traffic light- smiling smugly.
"What part of 'I doubt I'll want to meet my future self' did Mail-" Near's cold face slowly became a frown. "...Mail is going to suggest that I check and see if Matt and Mello are alive, isn't he?"
"It's almost like we have a psychic link." Mail said before driving through the intersection.
Near sighed and slowly turned back toward the window. "They die in the show, don't they?"
"...I just needed to see how you felt about the idea." Mail replied.
"Mail used my reaction to Mello being burned against me," Near sighed, closing his eyes and feeling, for the first time in a long time, out smarted.
"Yes, Mail did." Mail nodded. "But I didn't know about Matt until just now."
"It was a good assumption... it had plenty of logic behind it," Near mumbled. "There was at least a 42 percent chance that I cared about Matt just as much, or more... Mail didn't need 100 percent proof and knew I would prove or deny his theory with my reactions."
He turned to look at the other, studying him. |
"But you would know better than to give me that much credit." Mail snorted. "So it's almost like you wanted me to know."
"Perhaps Mail doesn't give himself enough credit," Near sighed. "...I am curious, yes... but I doubt that Mello and Matt are still at the orphanage. I could, however, get in contact with them through there..."
"But the real question is whether or not you want to." Mail said.
"Logically, I shouldn't want to," Near whispered. "...But I do."
"Logically, it's unusual, but on a normal human scale, that should have been more than expected." Mail snorted as he turned the car around. "I can get us to an airport."
"I don't have an ID or a passport," Near reminded.
"And I'm a Hollywood superstar." Mail hummed.
"So?" Near inquired, lifting an eyebrow. "Does that entitle Mail to special treatment for some reason? Or..." He smiled a little. "Ohh... that is right... I look quite a bit like Nate, don't I?"
"Yep." Mail smiled and nodded. "Besides, if no-one goes for that, I could just bring you as 'carry-on'."
"Very funny," Near scoffed, looking away. "...How will Mihael react to you running off to England with me?"
"Not - well." Mail replied. "Part of why I'm doing it."
"Mail and Mihael do not get along?" Near hummed, lifting an eyebrow.
"Are you kiddin'?" Mail laughed.
"Is it a popularity war, or something else?" Near pressed.
"What do you think?" Mail winked at Near.
"I think that Mihael is more famous then Mail and Mail is jealous," Near hummed. "Mihael would have to be more famous if Nate has a phone full of his photos and not a single one of Mail."
"I get more one and one time with Nate." Mail chuckled. "He only just had some alone time with Mihael recently...just before you showed up actually."
"If sleeping with him and then telling him it meant nothing is 'one on one' time," Near hummed. "...He keeps all of his text messages."
"Huh?" Mail blinked. "...Nah, you're fuckin' with me now."
Mail laughed. |
Near pulled Nate's phone from his jacket and scrolled through it like he'd had the thing his whole life.
After a moment be read aloud, "So what? It was just sex and we were drunk. Plus, don't hate on me for making us famous." |
