Doggieeees
My favorite was the Eskimo Spitz we had while I was growing up that was just the prettiest little white fluffcloud and like that best ratter ever. He kept our grain bins free of vermin, let me tell you. (Grew up on a farm.) And then there was my German Shepard I raised from a puppy that was the biggest baby everrr...when he was full grown he still would nudge me for me to let him climb up on my lap in the porch swing, lol. But he was a good guard dog too. I miss himmm (fun fact, I couldn't register him under the name I picked because it had Kennel in it, apparently you wouldn't be allowed to register a dog under the name American or Association (or maybe it's Club, I thought it was the other back then...) either lmao. I was nine and picked the word from a book, I had no idea what it meant. I thought it looked cool xD) |
Yeah, there are a few rules when it comes to naming dogs. No names of famous people, no copyrighted material, and nothing that might imply certain things I imagine. Using the words "Kennel", "American (or any nationality)" or "Association" could easily get confused with many, many clubs, associations, and kennels by those names, or falsely imply that a dog is affiliated with something or other.
In Canada, you send in three options for a registered name, in teh USA you send one, and if neither of them work the club can pick one for you from what is available. If memory serves, it's trickier to get a paricular name in Canada than the USA. I believe that two dogs can have the same registered name so long as the kennel name is different. My dog was "Laughing Full Monty," 'Laughing' being the kennel he came from. |
Really? There's a lot of crap that comes with naming puppies and dogs in North America overall? D:
Wow. I never knew that. owo |
Morning, everyone.
I may not be here for long, just wanted to pop in! |
Well considering it will become the dog's name on a national, sometimes international, scale, that's to be expected. Ever look up what it takes to name a racehorse?
|
Hi Batty.
Scythe death for all! |
...lmao Laughing Full Monty xD was that intentional?
I think I ended up naming him officially Kendell Daynne or some ridiculous spelling like that so they'd approve it lol, but he was my lil Kennel Dane x3 We didn't show dogs or anything, he was just a pet, so he didn't have to be as fancy as the horses did. Although they weren't show horses either, just breeding/pets so like my Golden Time Jack Palominio was just known as Jack to me. |
Yeah, Monty was just Monty, ;).
And yes, that was intentional. Monty was a black and tan, and there was a well known colour bias against the 'whole colours' (black and tan, ruby or all 'red') in favour of the Blenheim (chestnut and white) and tricolour. People wished me luck but told me not to exxpect to achieve much with him. I was vaguely aware of the expression from watching the movie and decided that it worked in a 'stick it to them' way. He looked like a "Monty" anyway. He certainly wasn't overly sociable or cutesy-woo in the normal manner of the breed. And, as is my habit, Cavaliers are an English breed, thus an English themed name. :) I showed him to within 2 points of his championship myself, and then a friend of ours and a professional handler decided he wanted to show him one day. He had also heard the comment that Monty wouldn't win anything and so set out to prove everyone wrong. ;). Monty did great! And since his arrival we've seen more whole colourd cavies in the show ring. I'm inclined to call that co-incidence but some relatives thinks he helped to make the colouring more popular. He was, quite literally, a hair from Best in Show at one point. His tail never really was very impressive. |

No, why? Is the naming of racehorses even more complicated or something? owo |
Yes, naming Racehorses is complicated. Naming anything official is complicated. I imagine naming show lizards if there are such things would also be complicated.
Of course, none of it is as complicated as it sounds. All I had to do was pick a name and incorporate the kennel name into it, which the breeder did herself when I gave her the name for his papers. |
I see. owo
So what if it's just naming them to have them as a pet? Would there be as many problems/complications then? :0 |
If you want to register your pet with a club, a complicated name is usually involved. If it's not registered, go nuts. It doesn't matter if one actually shows the dog, the name is for registration and is only used when one actually needs to use it.
Can you imagine if people used pet names all the time? One could have a god show with a couple hundred dogs named Spot or something, and fifty more named Bruno. |
Ahh, I see, I see. Sounds good. :] I can't wait to get me some reptilian and canine pets one day!! <3
So all this pet-naming stuff aside, how are you doing today Quiet? :] |
Tired. Really, really tired. Stayed up all night working on a document for my course. Fortunately someone else wanted to take a stab at formatting so I get a break.
|
I might trade more event currency lol
|
Mastiffs! Those babies are huge! My boyfriends favorites are shelties and border collies - English herding dogs. Myself - I love mutts. I love a mutt. <3
I LOVE PUPPIES! At the moment I have a herd of chihuahuas and my baby girl, a border collie / Australian Shepard mix. Genevieve, she is my baby! <3 |
I love the mastiffs! I'd like to have one myself but I'm concerned about them when they are puppies and older dogs, because they need a lot of lifting to preserve their joints. My sister is especially good with them.
They come out like little furry russet potatos when they are newborn. So cute! |
I would love a mastiff ~ but I'm not going to lie - I don't want to pick up a mountain of poop every day. :p HHHAHAHAHAA!
|
At least they are easy to see. :). My brother has a pom-chi and one is more often picking little dried up things out of shoe treads.
