Just dont be foolish like this one guy who came from a really good family. Guy gave away all his money and dropped off the map. It turned out that he had decided that he would be like Earnest Hemingway and trecked all the way into Alaska to be a survivalist... without any training.

@Asami; Ahh, k. I'm mildly excited because my mentore has a TV show now.

Renata 01-22-2012 05:34 PM

What show and who?

Asami 01-22-2012 05:34 PM

Who? Lol that's epic c:

Lunaryon 01-22-2012 05:35 PM

Want know what show your teach has!

Cronislee 01-22-2012 05:36 PM

"Full Metal Jousting" on the History Channel, it starts on the 2nd.
By the way; did you mean Who was the foolish boy who died trying to be a survivalist?

Lunaryon 01-22-2012 05:40 PM

Who is it on the show?

Cronislee 01-22-2012 05:43 PM

Shane Adams of the Knights of Valour, the North American Jousting Champion.

Lunaryon 01-22-2012 05:44 PM

Sweet! I'm jealous of you... But not of him. No way am I getting on a horse period...

Cronislee 01-22-2012 05:45 PM

Its not that bad. It's getting hit in the head with a longsword by the guy on the horse that sucks. :P
(Only learned that 3 times xD)

Lunaryon 01-22-2012 05:47 PM

I don't like horses... they kinda scare me.

Cronislee 01-22-2012 05:51 PM

Ahhh. They are basically giant dogs, when you think about it. I've even seen one throw itself on it's back and just start rolling around to scratch its back like a dog would. Granted, one of the horses I worked with, Athose didn't like me. They are smart animals, and this guy just looked at me, planted his hoof right down on my boot, and leaned his full weight into it, watching me the entire time. Like he was thinking; "You think I listen to you?"
I wear steel toed boots, however, so it was all fine. But this same horse head butted me last time I worked with him xD. Something about; "Fuck you and the horse rides for the kids! I'm thirsty, damnit!"

Renata 01-22-2012 05:54 PM

Nice sounds coll Cronis.

Cronislee 01-22-2012 06:01 PM

Aye, Shane is a badass.
I'll complain about the participants in the show, but Shane doesn't mess around. It's going to be a very real look at Jousting. I remember a few years back we thought he broke his neck when someone hadn't sinched his saddle properly, causing it to turn over while he was on it just after being hit. But he got right back up and said "One more time!"

Lunaryon 01-22-2012 06:05 PM

Isn't he like the number one jouster in the world or something like that...?

Cronislee 01-22-2012 06:09 PM

Probably not the world, but in the USA and Canada yes.

Lunaryon 01-22-2012 06:09 PM

that's kinda cool... What is jousting like?

Renata 01-22-2012 06:13 PM

That's pretty awesome.

Lunaryon 01-22-2012 06:20 PM

I would have to agree Ren.

Cronislee 01-22-2012 06:24 PM

In a word; Amazing. Especially when your in the list with them.
two 900+ pound horses, with two 200+ pound men, each wearing roughly 70-100 pounds of armor, travelling at 25 MPH, and hitting each other with the combined force of a 30MPH car crash- 3 to 5 times a round.
Keeping in mind, these are not normal horses, these are Percheron War Horses.

Even with full armor, roughly 3-5 jousters die a year. And when they actualy hit each other, the lances can shatter into pieces, some traveling up to thirty feet from the impact. If a Knight falls off, he looses. Otherwise, whoever has the most shattered lances is the winner.
I saw one knight, Mark, get dismounted and slam into the center post that supports the List line before falling off of it. We thought we was really hurt when he began yelling, and when we got his helmet off blood was in his mouth, but it was from him biting his tongue from the impact.

Thats a video of them.

Lunaryon 01-22-2012 06:25 PM

That's really scary!

Cronislee 01-22-2012 06:33 PM

But quite exciting. Until the Cannon, fired off by some reinactors, spooks the horse and said horse bolts through the crowd.

Lunaryon 01-22-2012 06:48 PM

Why would people do that?

Cronislee 01-22-2012 06:53 PM

Part of their show which preceeded ours. Normally it's not a problem, but on this particular day they packed it with too much powder.

Renata 01-22-2012 07:03 PM

Oh wow that sucks but jousting has always been intriguing to me.

Cronislee 01-22-2012 07:08 PM

Aye. Alot of troupes fake it, but the Knights of Valour dont.

Renata 01-22-2012 07:11 PM

Ahhhh that's awesome.

Cronislee 01-22-2012 07:15 PM

So whats up tonight?

Renata 01-22-2012 07:18 PM

Not too much.

Cronislee 01-22-2012 07:30 PM

Same on my end.

Renata 01-22-2012 07:44 PM
