But we're talking about present, Vaidurya. That the same holidays go to the next year without much changing, except for some new years that vary with the starting date.

I care. It always gets me in a tizzy when people are going on about how, "Jesus is the reason for the season," but in truth, he's the reason that September is supposed to be festive. Not December. <_< And it downplays the older religions that predate the movement of Christmas Day. Most Christians don't even know about the move, and assume that December 25th has been Christmas as long as Winter Solstice has been Yule.

I'm sorry, but I'm 25. Just because I can tell you about things that happened before I existed doesn't mean I was around to experience them. Christianity isn't as old of a religion as Judaism, and it'd be nice if its people could learn this fact and stop acting like Christianity is the only religion and everything else was inspired by it, instead of the other way around.

I never mentioned Jesus... <_<

Alexander Linden 10-01-2010 05:54 PM

I think we have a holiday in winter. But I don't remember anything about it.

Yuki 10-01-2010 05:56 PM

Hope it's fun, either way.

Alexander Linden 10-01-2010 05:56 PM

Vai - Christmas is usually the celebration of his birth, which actually took place in early spring. >.>

Also early Christians moved holidays to make it easy to convert others and have them keep their holidays. December 25th, is "Sol Invictus".

Sadrain 10-01-2010 05:57 PM

Well, I don't think anyone really did that. I named Christmas as example, but if, honestly, I have known it was moved for a long time.
I don't recall anyone just went "Christianity is the best thing evur and you're lyyyinggg, it was first on da world", so yea. ^^;

Yuki 10-01-2010 05:59 PM

You know, I don't care. I celebrate Christmas becuase of family, food and presents. Santa is just a fun character that gets added in. And nothing other than that.

Alexander Linden 10-01-2010 05:59 PM

I don't celebrate Christmas. At all.

Yuki 10-01-2010 06:03 PM

Well I don't celebrate Halloween but many sites has such events and I think they are fun. x_X I like all events.

Sadrain: No, nobody here said that about Christianity.

Alexander: I've heard people say it was Summer, Spring, or Fall that Christ was actually born in. To me, it just means Christianity lacks that extra bit of foresight and plausibility.

I agree that the Christmas Season is more about gift-giving and well-wishing than actual Christianity, but I work in Retail and every time that season starts to get close, I have to put up with a lot of people getting upset with me because I say, "Seasons Greetings" instead of "Merry Christmas," because I don't celebrate Christmas personally.

Maybe because of that I'm used to people getting up in my face about "how awesome Christ is." I mean, funniest one was when a guy wearing a baseball cap that had "Jesus Loves You" in sharpie on it was being really rude and condescending to me. I asked him if he'd ever heard the phrase, "Do unto others as you wish others to do unto you.." Needless to say it didn't go over very well. xD
