"H-hold on!" Matt moved over to his desk- trying to keep Nate off of his terminal. "I-I can't just patch right in, I haven't been able to hack him since I did the first time! Roger and Nancy have the number to reach Watari!"

Before he was even done saying 'Nancy', Nate was out the door.

"NATE!" Matt and Mello both cried out before running after the ivory-haired boy.

The boy continued running for a little bit before he realized he was completely lost and stopped, looking around in confusion. "Where the heck am I!?"

"Wammy's House." Matt panted as he came up beside Nate- trying desperately to catch his breath- he needed to quit smoking.

Mello came up on Nate's other side and took his arm.

"You can't just go running around like that!" Mello hissed. "You're not NEAR!"

"Take me to Roger!" Nate snapped in reply, pulling his arm out of the other's hold. "I need to talk to L NOW!"

"Why!?" Mello asked. "You said there was nothing to worry about!"

"If you were freaking fifteen!" Nate snapped. "Get me in touch with him, now!"

"Stop YELLING!" Mello shouted.

"Guys, someone's coming!" Matt blurtedin alarm.

"We don't have time for this!" Nate groaned. "L is going to die, Mello! Get him on the phone!"

"WHAT!?" Mello gaped in alarm.

"Who is that!?" They heard Roger's voice.

"Roger!" Nate cried, moving toward the sound of the voice. "Roger, I need to speak to L!"

"What are you doing out?" Roger whispered as he ran to meet the boys. "What's happened? You all look dis- Mello!"

Mello and Matt came up behind Nate.

"I don't have time for explanations!" Nate snapped. "Just get me a phone and call L! ...Well, call him before giving it to me- just get me L, damnit!"

"Roger, hurry!" Mello pleaded.

"It's a matter of life and death!" Matt added.

Roger looked between them before pulling out his cell and hitting the speed-dial.

"To my office, quick - quick!" Roger said.

Nate grabbed the phone from him quickly as they slipped into the office.

When he put it to his ear it ran three times before it was answered and voice that was distorted electronically came through.

"Code in." It said.

"Um... maybe you should take it?" Nate asked, handing it back to Roger.

"You think?" Roger sighed as he and Matt came in- taking back the phone. "R-339, Watari we have an emergency and need to speak with Last."

"Watari- that's watari!?" Nate cried, as if relieved.

"Watari, it's of vital importance." Roger pleaded. "It has to do with Next...what do you mean? Handcuffed to him?"

"SHIT-!" Nate cried, grabbing the phone from Roger. "Watari, please, listen to me! I know this sounds weird but you have to believe me, okay!? Last has to know about this!"

"This is Nathan...correct?" Watari asked. "Is it something you can tell me?"

"No, it has to be him," Nate stressed.

"You have to understand, that this isn't a moment that he's capable of taking a private call." Watari said.

"Its very urgent," Nate stressed even more. "Its about the Kira case, Watari... I just..." He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to remember. "If things are how I remember, then, um... this guy from... that place. He's Kira and... ugh! I didn't watch a lot of season one!"

Flopping into one of Roger's chairs, he tried to regain his composure.

"Haigu... Higu... Higuchi! That was his name! He has the notebook, but he's not Kira. Yagami is... gosh, I hope this is a secure line... Yagami Raito! He lost his memories for the time being but when Higuchi is captured, he will get them back. He's using Amane Misa... she's going to manipulate Higuchi for him! Ugh, this is all so confusing!"

"Higuchi?" Watari repeated. "Who is Higuchi?"

"Gosh darn it, Watari!" Nate groaned. "Please, I need to talk to him!"

"Nate he's...he can't be more than ten feet from Yagami Raito at all times right now." Watari replied apologetically.

"And what, you can hear the phone ten feet away?" Nate groaned. "Watari, he's going to die! I can save him! Please!"

"Die?" Watari repeated. "But he's handcuffed to the man you accused of being Kira."

"Watari!" Nate continued before he looked at Mello, pleadingly. "Please, make him listen!"

Mello jerked the phone out of Nate's hand and shouted into it.

"Watari, you put L on right NOW!" Mello demanded.

"Mello!" Roger breathed in alarm.

"That was kind of harsh," Nate snorted, though he smiled a little.

"...He's going." Mello told Nate with a nod.

"What's this all about?" Roger asked the boys.

Ignoring the elderly man, Nate took the phone and swallowed his nerves.

Before he had just assumed he was talking to a crazy man or maybe Lawliet, but this... this was really L.

There was a long moment where he heard absolutely nothing over the other end of the phone before another distorted voice came through.

"This is Ryuzaki." It informed.

"...The name's even the same as the show," Nate commented - both in awe and to let L know that it was him.

"Nate, you sound a great deal like mine, but there are subtle differences." L admitted.

"Um... okay then," Nate breathed. "Um... do you remember when I said what I said before about the whole... dying thing?"
