so this happened: sometime in november, we pick names out of a box, and that's the person we have for xmas. there's only 9 of us, so it's not too complex. hubby picked me, and told this to at least his brother, and our younger daughter (M) knew as well.

but somewhere along the line, he seemed to think he had our older daughter (J).... and when we took turns opening presents this afternoon, my sister-inlaw had J. and she was surprised and confused when there was another one with her name on it.

(now, xmas eve when hubby was finally finished wrapping the gift and wanted a marker to write the name on it, we all saw it was J's name, and M thought it was maybe an extra gift?? well, in retrospect, M probably should have said something to him that he really had me. i don't think that would have changed the gift, but still.....)

so this afternoon, J opens the gift from sis-inlaw, and then i "happen to look at the table" (because i know it's there, and i'm also very confused as well) and give the "second" gift to J. it's a Target gift card.

at which point, this is when sis-inlaw says she had J, and it gets pointed out that hubby had me. and i pointed out that there wasn't anything on the table labeled with my name. J offers me the gift card for target. it wasn't exactly where i'd put on my list a gift card for, but hey, free $50, right? and he did (for all intents and purposes) admit that he screwed up.

(but since it was a gift for me, i'm pretty sure he really wasn't sorry he screwed up. he's gotten weirder since we first got married.... 23 years ago. and that... he doesn't want to admit. but that's another post for another day.)

yeah.

Mekatra 12-25-2017 09:16 PM

>.> Wasn't sorry he screwed up not getting a gift for his wife?

trystan830 12-25-2017 09:23 PM

well, he did admit he screwed up in general, which is a rarity. but my impression was he was like "oh well, stuff happens."

in the past when i've called him out for stuff it's the same reaction. so i've learned not to directly call him out - i get him to realise he screwed up. and since he recognised that, it's a plus. but will he decide at some point to go back out and get me a gift card that was on my list that i actually asked for? probably not. money's tight as it is.
