I MADE FOOD AND DIN'T BURN MYSELF
|
Kids are like flowers, they need water, food, shelter from the cold, and someone willing to love them... and boom, they'll grow.
It kills me when I see brilliant individuals infantilized to the point of not being able to call the doctor's office to make their own appointment or cook a basic meal. Society failed them, and instead of being helped most the time we just let people keep doing it telling them "Oh it's okay, your anxiety is a good reason to let other people do it." NO. It isn't, because if all those people helping them went away then they would be fucked. Cutting off someone's independence is NOT doing them any favors. Yes everyone has limits and we all need help at times, but actively enabling others to slip below their capability levels is tantamount to abuse. |

Sorry, I get worked up about this.
|
Yeah, sure, but I have crippling anxiety when it comes to phone calls, and life would be a lot easier if my parents didn't try to push -ordering a pizza by phone- onto me. Doctor's appointments and stuff, sure, just give me like...a day to prepare and a night to have an anxiety attack, and I can do it. Sort of. With... some difficulty.
|
no mekatra, i agree with you.
like, you can blame your parents for causing your problems initially, but you only have yourself to blame if you don't fix them yourself. |
There's a big difference between things you HAVE to be able to do to function in society and things that are just easier other ways though. Them pushing you to call for pizza isn't doing you any favors. Encouraging you to deal with your own medical things and empowering you to make mistakes on occasion would be a lot better way of handling it.
I taught my husband how to cook by literally saying "It's okay if you mess up, ingredients can be replaced, just try your best. Here's a list of recipes, pick one you want to try." and turning him loose saying "You're making dinner on X night." |
things go bad when i get let loose in the kitchen, haha. i start looking at the condiments and going, WHAT WILL ADD FLAVOR, PROBABLY DRESSING RIGHT
|
Why would you start with the condiments /aaahhhhhhh/
|
Yeah, but if you end up liking it then that's a good thing. If not, well... oops. Experimenting in the kitchen is how delicious recipes happen. How many tasteless flour blobs do you think happened before someone discovered cake?
Anxiety also always pushes the "What's likely to happen if I mess this up?" meter WAY too far over into the "TERRIBLE THINGS" side, when in reality the effects of most mistakes are fairly simply fixed, but since no one has ever taught you how to fix it, you think you've ruined everything. |
I DON'T KNOW, ESPY
CONDIMENTS ARE LIKE SAUCES RIGHT I LIKE SAUCES |
Cooking is like figuring out your sexuality. There are things you're going to love the first time you try them and no matter how they're made you'll love them. There are things that you are never going to want to put in your mouth again. There are things you only like when prepared or presented in certain ways.
You won't know though, until you're exposed to them. |
Okay, fair, I generally don't use much in terms of sauce when I cook.
|
my little sister taught me how to boil water when i was 17. lol. -_- pathetic.
|
Nah, we all gotta learn sometime.
|
I am having a moment here but --
I am a really good cook and awesome baker ^o^ I'll mail you all cookies ok. Mama Glitch out! *moms all over trisphee* |
I'll complete the circuit by mailing you cookies Glitch XD
|
I will totally make caramels and send them!
8D *rolls through* (Just kidding, I probably won't just because I work all the time and just don't have the time to make stuff...) |
Once someone sent me sweets from Europe
I received ants /CRYYYY |
I think I heard about that before! Terrible!
I promise if I ever sent sweets that they would be properly packaged in air-tight containers so as to prevent ants! |
Oh wow, that would really suck D:
|
i would probably scream and hide and be freaking out that ants were on me all the time
|
So, uh, storytime.
Several years (maybe a decade?) ago, I went to Taiwan, and was at my grandparents' house, upstairs, messing around on my laptop. Tore open a pack of ramen crackers and started snacking. Many minutes later, I grabbed my nth cracker, then actually *looked* at the bag for some reason. ...Dropped the cracker, nearly screamed. The bag was, uh. Swarming with ants. The desk had ants. The ground had ants. I don't know where they came from. ...To this day, I still don't know if I ate any ants. EDIT: I have another ant-related story, but I need to sleep since I just had a dizzy spell halfway through typing that. Fun shit and all. |
Espy you're a tough cookie, I don't think I would've survived after that
maybe I would but I would've thrown up real bad and maybe never eat ramen again |
As a small girl I took a sip from a can on the counter. When I put it down ants were swarming out of it. I was so traumatized I ran and hid and my sort of step sister told me they were going to live in my belly and bite me. I’ve never forgotten!!!
|
eek. i hate ants.
in other news, i just re-deleted 2000+ emails from the last 2(?) weeks from my email. so i have what i call Swiss Cheese Memory™ - it's got lotsa holes in it! so when i sign up somewhere, i forward myself the email with the user name, and add a password hint. yesterday, i must have accidentally deleted a bunch of them. so i posted on facebook asking if anyone had an easy way i could get them back. i use gmail, and there is a recovery tool, which i filled out, and then BAM all my emails are flooding my inbox and filters. the problem is, all of these emails i've saved are from various points in time, and i have no exact date any of them were from. i finally sent feedback to google to STOP recovering my emails. i hope they have stopped, i don't need the emails recovered that badly. so if i forget my thinkgeek or amazon password, i'll just reset it. along the way this morning, though, it made me change my gmail password. now i gotta remember that every time i sign in to my chromebook..... XD |
Fun fact, my yahoo email is set up with access through my gmail app. And I seriously have to delete emails 3 or more times before they stay deleted.
|
ouch. but 2000+ emails... four times?? ugh.
|
Yeah. That is a lot! I should probably attempt to delete my several hundred emails again tonight actually. They're mostly spammy stuff and yarn shop ads and sales...
|
the earliest recovery date i saw was 11/21. but i have crochet emails, political emails, emails for stores and such.... and i get comics from arcamax nightly - like about 15 or 16. and forum notifications from here and magistream. lotta emails.
oh, and spam. not fun to delete them a few times. i'm half expecting that between the time i shut down my work computer, run a few errands, and then get home and sign on my chromebook, i'll have to delete them all again. |
Ih man, that really does suck. Hopefully they stop soon.
|
well, they've stopped for now. this is after i went to google feedback and said "STOP recovering my email" and pasted STOP a few times... XD
|
That sounds... super fun... >.> Not at all. I hate even checking my email unless I'm looking for tracking numbers for packages.
Okay so on the note of ants, I used to eat them on purpose as a child. Like I could find an ant hill and put a piece of candy near it, let it get covered with ants and then eat them.... because my favorite movie was Lion King... |
I deleted another crap-ton of emails about an hour or so ago. *sigh*
|
They make programs you can use to make that kind of thing easier, if you have to do that a lot
|
why Mekatra, whyyyy
|
Cuz I was a gross kid that wanted to be Simba? I dunno XD
|
Did you become Simba tho
|
I roared a lot and thought I was ruler of everything.
I did not watch my father die in a stampede though. |
