I haven't read a how to draw manga book since early highschool have they gotten really horrible cho

they were never any good XD any artist worth their salt will tell you that the how-to-art books usually are just showing you how to make shortcuts and cookie-cutter tropes instead of teaching critical information on how to draw

sort of like a cake-making book that only talks about icing. those books are selling because they are just icing and people love the sweet stuff. you are a looooot better off with a legit reference book geared towards artists and then look to your fave mangaka and swwe what they are doing. anyone can make really shit art and paste on big eyes but it is a mark of skill to be able to make proper proportions then have the wherewithal to know where to make your own personal alterations


tldr? make realistic art THEN modify it to be more anime, your art wont come out bizarre and lumpy XD

I find that most people draw proportions based on what they look like.

I have very long legs and arms and a tiny torso so I tend to draw people like that, which doesn't look right for everybody. I think the real skill comes in when you can start drawing body shapes that don't look like yours.

Jk though. One of my biggest issues with proportioning is presketching. I can freehand most stuff, but If I try to do a full real sketch where you draw out the dynamic pose and joints, then fill in with shapes and contour it out to be more human-like....
Between the step of the circle joints and putting geometrical shapes on the body I got lost and ruined everything T.T My Art teacher was always made at me for it also T.T
Pets, landscapes and flowers are pretty easy for me to do semi-realistic, but my people always have an Anime-twist to them =/ Even when I try not to T.T
My brother always talks on how he wants me to draw him a tattoo up as long as it's not one of those crappy anime things (yet he watches bleach)

ahhh hand drawing was both my best and worst thing. I can shade it in awesomely by freehand is so terribly it's barely even recognizable T.T

I have zero fear of them. But they look more cartoony that realistic. That is just about how it is.

Even regular feet are weird to me.
Like I'm struck with an anti-foot fetish, except for the fact that disgust me I just don't like the look of em.
