I live in the middle of the us. It'd take about 14 hours to drive to the coast....

Gallagher 07-19-2012 04:10 PM

The beach seems slightly less appealing when you've seen human feces and used sanitary pads in the waters... Among other things.

Lunaryon 07-19-2012 04:22 PM

Eww... I'd rather not think about that...
GROSS

Gallagher 07-19-2012 04:34 PM

You can see why I'm not quite so enthusiastic.

Sadly, the bay's suffered a lot from pollution, and I happen to be down where all the muck from the other states comes out to meet the ocean. The nicer beaches are more out of the way.

Kali_Namir 07-19-2012 09:06 PM

YAYS!!!! Lunaryon is back!!!

Lunaryon 07-19-2012 09:11 PM

Hi ya Kali! How are you?

Kali_Namir 07-19-2012 09:12 PM

I'm doing good. I'm gonna try to prep for an official RP in the next month or so and have it start on September 1st...

Lunaryon 07-19-2012 09:14 PM

What kind of RP?

Kali_Namir 07-19-2012 09:21 PM

I was thinking of just shifting the original theme we had to an official RP so that it was easier to keep up with and people who don't really want to join, don't feel awkward interrupting...

Airina 07-20-2012 01:31 AM

I'm super excited!

Funkduder 07-20-2012 02:51 PM

Its quite possible to have a a number of various rps and groups for each house if this grew to a fashionable size

Lunaryon 07-20-2012 02:53 PM

That'd be crazy... But awesome.

Gallagher 07-20-2012 02:59 PM

Let's def save that idea for when we're bigger.

I can certainly help set this thing up if y'all need it. It shouldn't be too difficult. It would be nice to have all the heads of house before we start, though.

Kali_Namir 07-20-2012 04:10 PM

Yeah...I like the idea of doing actual rps for houses, but lets wait...

I've been super busy with classes and haven't been able to work much on the Ravenclaw quiz, but I'm gonna make it shorter and hopefully send it out this weekend...but I'm cutting it in half...

We've also had an application for Slytherin head come in as well, so we should have all heads by next week or so...

I will definitely be needing help setting the rp up though...I've never actually set one up before...

Also, I just thought of something...I could make a social group and set it up like Hogwarts and just have the main RP in the rp forum and houses and the such in the social group...I just wish au earning was in the groups as well...

Lunaryon 07-20-2012 04:11 PM

We'd get so rich if it worked like that.

Kali_Namir 07-20-2012 05:30 PM

It would also allow for more complex RPs like what we'd be doing...

Lunaryon 07-20-2012 07:52 PM

Why would it allow more complex RPs?

Kali_Namir 07-20-2012 08:19 PM

...I guess complex was the wrong wording...it would allow for the RP's to stay in the same location and might allow for them to not fall away...

Lunaryon 07-20-2012 08:20 PM

Ah. Yeah that would be troublesome.

Kali_Namir 07-20-2012 08:43 PM

One would also have the ability to do more unique things...

Like you could leave the great hall to go to a common room in the RP, and actually leave the great hall and go to a common room entirely and it would allow for things like that...

(Had an HP Guild on Gaia that was set up like that and it worked really well...it even occasionally had classes and had ways to earn house points)

Lunaryon 07-20-2012 09:07 PM

Wonder if we could ask the Mods/Admins about getting a Hogwarts folder in the RP section...

Kali_Namir 07-20-2012 09:21 PM

I almost think that would be a bit much, simply because then it seems like a site supported thing...I would be closer to seeing if it were possible to have AU earning in the Social Groups...

Lunaryon 07-20-2012 09:34 PM

Should we do it even though there is no Au earning?

Kali_Namir 07-20-2012 09:35 PM

We probably will, just because it would make it more fun, but AU earning would give more incentive to be active in the group...

Lunaryon 07-20-2012 09:47 PM

I don't really care about getting AU. I can get that easy enough.

Kali_Namir 07-20-2012 10:03 PM

Same here, but it's a thought. I've always thought it would be more incentive and could possibly help to make the site more active if people could have AU earning in social groups...

Either way, I think I'll set it up this weekend...

Lunaryon 07-20-2012 10:06 PM

Sweet! Can't wait to begin the mystery of how a Muggle with tech advanced far beyond ordinary levels found herself in the middle of Hogwarts...

Gallagher 07-20-2012 10:11 PM

-whines- I never got help with my characterrrr, now I'm running out of tiiiime~

I think groups would be a good way to break it up until we have enough people to call for private common room threads (preferably made by the associated heads of houses).

Lunaryon 07-20-2012 10:26 PM

What you had was kinda vauge... I'd be glad to help you right nao with you're character if you like.

Kali_Namir 07-20-2012 10:33 PM

I was thinking it wouldn't be officially open until September 1st (RP and Social Group) that way it gives us around a month and a half to get everything set up...

I was totally thinking that the Common Rooms Would be set up by Heads...It would just make it a little more awesome...

And if we get enough people, we might could to classes!

Gallagher 07-20-2012 10:35 PM

Pfft. Whatever, man. Whatever.

Let's see... -fusses with notes- With a squib/non mix... I'm going to assume the squib parent is a touch odd, because it's strange being in that sort of world but without the abilities to really join in... Whomever was interested in them would have to be very open, possibly intrigued by non-magical folks, or just not bothered by such matters... This paves the way for someone that would probably have simultaneous self-esteem troubles over their abilities and/or family line (the extent to which would be very swayed by the company they've been made to keep prior) and a friendly nature to those that might not always be viewed in a good light.

With what I know I want for their wand obsession and future career possibilities, I'm going to say they have a bit of an obsessive nature with such things, much too enthusiastic at times, but, at least where their interests are concerned, quite clever... Maybe not in other matters... Lack of confidence can start a real vicious cycle with ability, as we've already seen.

...

-flops on the floor- Oh goooood, but this isn't enouuuugh!

Lunaryon 07-20-2012 11:00 PM

Have the Squib Parent having a love for Potions, given that it's one of the few magics that s/he can use, which also gives your character a little bit of background knowledge into the subject.

I'm a little confused about what you mean as a Wand Obsession... Can you explain a little more?

Next handful of things are a little easier, because personality doesn't really tie in:
Gender
Hair length/color
ethnicity
eye color

Gallagher 07-20-2012 11:14 PM

Bah. Insignificant details, really, easy enough to pull out at the last minute.

I've mentioned it a bit in this thread before, but the new character will be an aspiring wand maker.

Part of the spark for it, I think, will come from the squib parent keeping a dead wand (which would have in turn belonged to a grandparent).

The potions thing is very good. The same could be said of CoMC, I think, and Herbology. Both of those would tie in with wand making and be a great boost... Of course, chances are good that they went to a Muggle school, and any knowledge in these subjects would have been picked up or self taught.

-grumblemutter- I'm feeling fairly good about the nurture aspect of personality, but there's still the nature...

Airina 07-20-2012 11:19 PM

I need to figure out a character... I has nothing yets....

Kali_Namir 07-20-2012 11:24 PM

I need to fix mine...and decide which one I wish to do...I think I may actually make a whole new one...Like a kind of childish headmaster who teaches History of Magic as well...idk...

Airina 07-20-2012 11:25 PM

I has no idea!

Gallagher 07-20-2012 11:36 PM

I would be very surprised if a headmaster had time to teach, do detentions, grade papers, all of that AND do their head duties. You might be reaching a little too far there.

Airina 07-20-2012 11:38 PM

That's what I was thinking, maybe be a headmistress who used to teach history of magic?

Kali_Namir 07-20-2012 11:44 PM

See...I really wanna use my teacher character, but I feel as though I'm supposed to play a headmistress role...

Gallagher 07-20-2012 11:46 PM

Is there going to be a rule against multiple characters?
