Not royalty, but families of nobility, yes. Military service is a tradition tracing back to the Middle Ages, which in that time would have been Knighthood which - in most areas - were nobles. Wouldn't be anything grand or on the scale of the royalty's, but I believe there is still one in England, Ireland, and maybe Germany.....don't quote me on that though. Haven't done my research that far.

Arikana 11-19-2012 01:19 PM

Oh, wow. I never knew you were part of an ancient and noble lineage, Alpha. That's really cool to hear. :3

Alpha 11-19-2012 01:21 PM

Eh, I just focus on the military part. My uncle knows more about it than I do though....he's done the majority of the research for the fact of documenting our lineage.

Honestly, it is interesting to me, but more from the historical standpoint than being able to say, "I come from nobility, bow before me!" *chuckles*

Arikana 11-19-2012 01:33 PM

Yeah, it's always nice to know where you come from. I've always wondered that about myself, but most of my ancestry hails from China. So most of it will probably be written in Chinese, if even documented at all. But I can't read Chinese. I can speak and liste to it, just not read it. D:

Hmmmm......well, always translation......is quite time consuming though even using software.

Arikana 11-19-2012 02:33 PM

Yeah. I should just ask my parents for help on this. >w> Or my other relatives. >w>
Pretty much anyone but myself. XD

The thing about my lineage is that, even though it's recorded on my dad's side for a great deal of generations, anyone could have fudged that some time ago because of the Japanese invasion, China, etc. Also, I might be a tiny fraction Dutch; my mom and some great-grand-aunt or someone like that have relatively red hair, as do I. It's not too visible when it's short, but past shoulder length, my hair tends to gleam copper in direct sunlight. My mom's side of the family isn't too notable; they've been poor for quite some time.

Espy 11-19-2012 02:50 PM

Actually. Now that I think about it (I should be thinking more towards the exam I have in a bit, but eh), I remember my dad mentioning that my last name (呂) comes from royalty...or rather, from a bit of research, an Emperor and later a few Empresses, but I wouldn't be surprised if (cue videogame reference) some ancestor of mine had been adopted into the family from poverty and taken on the status of nobility...

That's something I'll probably never find out.

I know that my grandparents on my dad's side keep detailed record of our family history as far back as they can trace it. Semi's parents are really involved in their family history too. I haven't studied up on much of it, but I know I'm mostly English and German. I'd like to learn more when I have the time. Probably when I'm out of school.

._. i'll never know my true lineage

Coda 11-19-2012 02:57 PM

At some point in history I'm descended from European royalty (and a lot of it -- but that part's no surprise considering how much intermarriage happened between the royal houses of European countries) but if we're talking military nobles my mom's side of the family can trace back to a soldier in Scotland that was given the knightly name "Stark" (meaning "strong") for services to the throne.

Edit: Hmm. I wonder if my dad ever dug up the Stark coat of arms.

Why not, DK? D:
Surely you should be able to look for it if you try? owo

Alpha 11-20-2012 06:38 PM

I actually managed to find my family's coat of arms on the English side....

Arikana 11-20-2012 06:41 PM

Nice. What does it look like and mean? :O

Rem 11-20-2012 07:00 PM

That's okay DK neither will I ~

Ari: It's main feature is three hedgehogs, which was known as the symbol for a "provident provider".
