"You're not making any sense, go away." Mello replied sharply. "Go dress up like Matt or something."
"That would be Toma that does that," Rome snorted. "I have blonde hair, I would make a very poor Matt."
Mello turned and looked at Rome.
"Oh, it is you." Mello mumbled. "I get you two mixed up all the time, since you don't interest me at all." |
"Of course I don't," Rome informed, lifting an eyebrow. "You are far too busy being completely in love with Near but too chicken to admit it to him, so picking on him instead like a child. That, however, is not Near, but still interests you because he looks like him and what could be better? After all, he can't turn you down for being second best if he isn't above you."
Mello whirled and gripped Rome by his navy-blue sweater with the tattered sleeves just as baggy on the other blonde boy's. He shook him and bared his teeth.
"What did you just say!?" He growled. |
"Fight!" One of the kids called and suddenly everyone was gathered around, rooting the two of them on and trying to get them to throw punches.
Nate sat in the back and watched over his shoulder, a blank expression on his face. |
Mello shoved Rome back and started walking around Rome while a circle was made around them. Everyone knew that Mello was pretty tough and could take most people, but it was always still great to watch him fight.
Rome dusted himself off and turned to leave, but was shoved back by a few of the kids. He frowned - he wasn't the kind of kid who fought with others, but knew that everyone just wanted to see Mello beat someone down.
Nancy came in, however, and broke everyone up. Several kids made a run for it, not wanting to get into trouble. "What have we said about fighting!?" Nancy scolded Mello. |
"What!?" Mello frowned. "I didn't even touch him!"
"Roger's office, now!" She cried.
Nate turned away once more, trying to hide the smile he had. This place... it was like one big family. |
"What!?" Mello whined. "I didn't even fight!"
"Now, mister!" She snapped, shooing him off.
Nate watched them for a moment before he returned to the dice castle he was building. "Thursday is dice day." Slowly, Nate lifted his eyes to the young man before him, who looked like a live version of Ness. "Near only plays with dice on Thursday," He informed, his eyes cold. "Today is Tuesday." |
"Hey Near!" Matt came running over as Mello was escorted out by Nancy.
He took Near's arm and hauled him up. "C'mon, I wanna show you something!" Matt said excitedly. |
The kid glared at them, but didn't say anything as a shell-shocked Nate was dragged away by Matt.
"Sorry, but One isn't the guy you wanna act in front of." Matt apologized as they were making down the hallway.
"One?" Nate asked in confusion. "What that the guy's name?"
"Yeah, some of the codes weren't very creative." Matt laughed nervously.
"What is he, Near's stalker or something!?" Near cried. "Dice are Thursdays... you and Mello didn't even know that-!"
"We didn't think of it." Matt sighed. "And yeah, he's a Near fangirl."
"Oh gosh, you haven't met a Near fangirl," Nate snorted. "These girls used to send me naked photos of themselves with Near dolls in... yeah, that was gross."
"Uhh?" Matt blushed. "Well, I don't know if One has a Near doll."
He laughed again. |
"Or one of those," Nate chuckled, smiling a little. "Hey... can we play some nintendo or something? Dice bore me!"
"Hell yeah!" Matt burst excitedly. "You a Battle Toads fan?"
"Of freaking course!" Nate cried, now the one dragging the redhead down the hall in an excited run.
Yes, he could definitely get used to Wammy's house. --Scene Change-- "Here are the files you asked for, Ryuuzaki," Watari informed as he set a pile in front of L while he and Light watched the Yotsuba group. |
L pulled up the first file and start shuffling through all the papers- letting them fall on the floor in a sloppy mess as he his eyes skimmed the pages at lightening speed.
He spotted a picture and paused for a brief moment at the sad face of the eight year old albino boy who looked like a carbon copy of another boy he knew - one that was almost thirteen now, but still looked like a child.
He moved past it after a moment- not wanting to stay on one thing for too long and get Raito's attention. He read through the little boy's custody history and all the people he was associated with. Then he found the photographs...the ones that all got labeled as evidence.
Nathaniel River was definitely real - the proof was right in front of him - and everything the boy had said was slowly coming into play...
What was there left to do? |
L dropped the file folder and turned in his seat- typing a quick message on his laptop before sending it and shutting the machine off. He then got up- his chain jingling as he walked over to stand beside Light.
Light glanced up from where he was watching the feed from their cameras and frowned. "Ryuuzaki?"
"Namikawa is obviously the powerful member of Yotsuba, just over Ooi." L murmured aloud. "After that it's Shingo Mido, who handles finances."
"I know all this," Light informed, eying the other man carefully.
"Good, then we'll put some surveillance on Higuchi." L nodded. "Glad we're in agreement."
"Higuchi?" Light asked in genuine surprise. "Where does he fit in?"
"Of all the members of Yotsuba, I've concluded that he's one of the most successful while being the least likely to succeed." L replied. "That makes his success very suspicious. The other members wouldn't need to use Kira to gain power."
"That does make sense," Light admitted, genuinely surprised still. "I suppose you aren't who you are for nothing. Your powers of deduction are as amazing as ever, Ryuuzaki."
His memories are gone... It was going to be hard to convict someone who had no memories of their crimes. --Scene Change-- Near was surprised as he woke up when the plane came to a landing. He could barely remember the flight and wondered how long he had been asleep... he'd been talking to Matt a little, but when had he passed out? |
Mail breathed in deeply and blinked his eyes open before he leaned over- holding Near against him gently -and unbuckled his seatbelt.
"Don't move around too much or you might get sick." He warned. |
"I've slept so long," Near whispered, as if astounded at the very idea. People were climbing off of the plane, almost bumping into Mail as they passed by. "Have we arrived already?"
"Yeah, I thought you'd like to get some rest and not have to wait around." Mail smiled.
"My thanks to Matt," Near said - obviously tired if he was mistaking the redhead for his friend back home.
