If you can look pass all the hints of BL that they show through out the show and see the story itself, what will you see?

Me? I'm a Fujoshi, I screamed happily during episode 7 and awe'd at the snippits in 8. But Yuri on Ice is way more than the BL tones it has.

Yuri on Ice moves through the story line, showing us how the two main characters grow as people and as professionals (Yuri as a Skater and Victor as a Coach). The theme song itself is about the two main characters, Yuri singing how he's tired of feeling self conscience and then Victor singing encouragement to Yuri. (No the VA's aren't actually singing the song but that is how the song goes.) The more the anime progresses, the more confident Yuri gets. The more breakdowns Yuri has, the more challenges Victor take on as Yuri's coach.

The skating in the anime is something to fawn over. The fact that many real competitive skaters comment on how real the anime seems when it comes to the skating and how well they have the competitions down, is something to take into account. It makes the anime more real. The outfits worn by the skaters give a flair to the dance they do and helps captivate you more as they skate.

I've seen complaints about the 'repetitive' nature of the programs used. Yuri skates to 2 songs so far during the series. "On Love: Eros" and "Yuri On Ice". If you watch the dances he does closely, he tries to liven it up. For Eros, he starts off with just the normal way of starting, then next time he performs he licks his lips, then the next performance he blows a kiss. Each time he tries to do something sexier for the start of that song. And for Yuri on Ice (the song >->) he tries to change out his jumps and quads. More spins here, less spin there, show more love here, show more angst there.

How stiff Yuri is before certain performances to how he slowly gains confidence and powers through the songs he dances to changes as well. So it's more than just 'the same thing over and over again'. There are changes each time Yuri goes out and that helps the 'repetitive' bits of the anime be less of such.

Now the BL part comes from the relationship between Yuri and Victor. Are they even in a relationship? Just because they seem to be getting closer and closer doesn't mean anything. (Though I personally wish they do become a couple)

Just because Victor kissed Yuri in episode 7 doesn't mean they became a thing. Also, it doesn't look like anyone is going to ask Yuri about said kiss, or ask about his relationship with Victor so we're left hanging aren't we..

As the anime flows along, Yuri gets more and more comfortable with his idol being his coach. At the start he was so nervous and worried at times that he would avoid Victor all together. But slowly, Yuri got used to Victor being around him to the point he's so comfortable that now they are starting to look like newlyweds.

The anime focuses more on Yuri's skating career more than it does his relationship with Victor which is why it is somewhat easy to over look the BL undertones. If you love Ice Skating, or just need a story where the underdog pulls through, this anime might be fore you. (Or if you are a Fujoshi and need eye candy to stare at. >w>)
