The song Love 2012 by 3oh!3 has been my anthem for a little while now. Finally I just gave up on trying to make everyone else in my life happy and wanted to focus on myself, and this song has sections that really mean that to me.

Link to a video with the song.

Key of Twilight, from the .//hack series

Come with me in the twilight of a summer night for awhile
Tell me of a story never ever told in the past

Take me back to the land
Where my yearnings were born
The key to open the door is in your hand
Now fly me there

Fanatics find their heaven in never ending storming wind
Auguries of destruction be a lullaby for rebirth

Consolations, be there
In my dreamland to come
The key to open the door is in your hand
Now take me there

I believe in fantasies invisible to me
In the land of misery I'm searchin' for the sign
To the door of mystery and dignity
I'm wandering down, and searchin' down the secret sun

Come with me in the twilight of a summer night for awhile
Tell me of a story never ever told in the past

Take me back to the land
Where my yearnings were born
The key to open the door is in your hand
Now take me there
to the land of twilight

A song that is always lovely to listen to, and I found out a lot of the lyrics actually are about other singers that died during the 60s.

American Pie by Don McLean.

There's been a lot of speculation as to what that song refers to (ie. John Lennon, Big Bopper, etc) and there's doesn't seem to be any concensus on it. I just like to listen to it and not worry too much about meaning. I first enountered it when I was young and my dad played it for me. It was about the time CD's were first coming out, so I grew up listening to it, and as I got older I started paying attention to the lyrics so it's sentimental in a couple ways for me.

Haven't heard the Madonna version (I think it's Madonna) and I'm not all that sure I want to.

I don't really listen to lyrics so much as the music they compliment. I love the music Gorillaz writes, I adore Kanye West, and I love the style and raw, in you face, attitude Innerpartysystem's music sometimes has.

Smuggler 05-23-2011 05:20 PM

It's not actually the lyrics of the song that bothers me or attracts me to the song. It's the beat or the artist or the overall sound. I mean there are some songs with fantastic lyrics that I can't stand, and songs with really basic lyrics that I love.

I do however adore people who can make a story out of lyrics and rhyme even the most obscure word with something else. Eminem is a master of that. (:

I like some of his later stuff, the songs post 8-Mile (I think) even if I find them a bit gritty at times for my usual tastes. Soldier, (I think that's the right title) for instance.

This just came to me yesterday, one of the songs I used to like some time ago was Third Eye Blind's "Slow Motion" which to me a great example of lyrics not matching the melody of the song. I like the melody and the singer and enjoy listening to the song but the lyrics still want to make me cringe.

The lyrics are graphic and quite violent, but the song itself has a very lazy flow to it, and the singer himself doesn't seem too concerned with putting much punch into what he's singing. He just seems to float along with the melody while talking about shootings, wife beating, and such. After all that though, the last verse is a cheeky comment on the contents of the song and the nature of the listeners.

I am absolutely obsessed with this song, partly for the lyrics but mostly for the atmosphere that it manages to invoke. The music really reflects the apocalyptic nature of the lyrics.

The Last Hour of Ancient Sunlight

Black is the sunlight shimmering below;
it flows through life and the guilt we share
Our sorrow, it cuts through the undergrowth,
as we abandon this ravenous Earth alone

The zeitgeist dimmed the surface and seized the soul
Our Mother wept behind the fence,
and we drained her blood, then forgetting her face,
and hide from everyone…

to breathe, to conquer,
to linger, to utilize the ignorant herd

In rapture from nature we divorce,
like orphans by desire,
from this closing light

The bewildered sleep -
the shadowy voyager is lurking;
he’s in the flesh of landscapes vaporous
The vacant, untiring Sovran of old…
He’s the machinery; igniting the paralyzed soil

We took the blood of the earth
and fell in love with death
with life itself as an excuse

Black is the sunlight shimmering below;
it flows through life and the guilt we share

We’re hiding in chorus as starry eyes close,
and seasons part in farewell;
‘cause we drained her blood, then forgetting her face
to hide from everyone

The bewildered sleep -
the shadowy voyager is lurking;
he’s in the flesh of landscapes vaporous
The vacant, untiring Sovran of old…
He’s the machinery; igniting the paralyzed
soil

Gorillaz Empire Ants feat. Little Dragon

Link to song

Lyrics:

Oh joy's arise
The sun has come again too hold you
Sailing out the doordrums of the
The polyphonic prairies here, it's all around you
It's all around you, out here

And if the whole world is crashing down
Fall through space out of mind again
Where the emptiness we leave behind on warm air rising

Lose all the shadows far away

The falling alcohol empire, is here to hold you
Ruling out and haunted till it sinks

Little memories, marching on
Your little feet, working the machine
Will it spin, will it sore
My little dream, working the machine

Little memories
Your little feet, working the machine
Will it spin, will it sore
My little dream, working the machine

I like the lyrics of Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift

I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, I'll never let you go
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, Don't leave me here alone
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurts you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Don't you dare look out your window

Darling, everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Even when the music's gone
Gone

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurts you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Just close your eyes
You'll be alright
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe and sound...

And Bob Carlisle's Butterfly Kisses

There's two things I know for sure
She was sent here from heaven, and she's Daddy's little girl.
As I drop to my knees by her bed at night
She talks to Jesus and I close my eyes
And I thank God for all of the joy in my life, oh but most of all...

For butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair
Walk beside the pony Daddy, it's my first ride
I know the cake looks funny Daddy, but I sure tried
Oh with all that I've done wrong, I must of done something right
To deserve a hug every morning, and butterfly kisses at night.

Sweet sixteen today
She's looking like her Mama, a little more everyday.
One part woman, the other part girl
To perfume and makeup, from ribbons and curls.
Trying her wings out in a great big world, but I remember...

Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair.
You know how much I love you Daddy, but if you don't mind
I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time.
With all that I've done wrong, I must of done something right
To deserve her love every morning, and butterfly kisses at night.

All the precious time, oh, like the wind the years go by.
Precious butterfly, spread your wings and fly.

She'll change her name today, she'll make a promise, and I'll give her away.
Standing in the bridegroom just staring at her
She asks me what I'm thinking, and I said I'm not sure.
I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl, and she leaned over...

Gave me butterfly kisses with her Mama there
Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair.
Walk me down the aisle Daddy, it's just about time.
Does my wedding gown look pretty Daddy? Daddy, don't cry.
Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must of done something right.

To deserve her love every morning, and butterfly kisses,
I couldn't ask God for more, than this is what love is.
I know I gotta let her go, but I'll always remember...
Every hug in the morning, and butterfly kisses.

With some of the new age music, I just like the sound that is coming without words. I often find myself taking the words out, and listening instrumental.

Quiet Man Cometh 01-28-2012 01:48 AM

How would you define "new age" music, toxic? I've heard the term used a lot for easily the past decade or so, so I'm not really sure what it means anymore. Haven't heard it applied to music though.

Toxic Rainbow Kisses 01-28-2012 12:07 PM

Stuff Like Lady gaga or kesha,
There music is just a jumble of junk to me.
The sound in the background seems better.

Quiet Man Cometh 01-28-2012 12:30 PM

Ah, I think I follow. I generally haven't payed much attention to the current pop music and such, and current stuff in general since it hasnt' really been in line with my tastes. The most current song on my iTunes is Kate Perry, "Hot n Cold" I believe.

I like the song and the lyrics are simple and clear enough that it's easy and fun to sing along to. I think the simplicity of lyrics and singing is what started to get me into country music. -.- Really, the stuff is just so easy to pick up it's hard to get out of your head.

Toxic Rainbow Kisses 01-28-2012 12:35 PM

I actually Like Katy Perry.
Her Voice is beautiful and I can relate to her songs. xD
