lol wangsters... it is true though they are trying act like that...

I call one of my friends a coconut (hispanic on the outside, white on the inside) and I know she isn't offended by it, but I know some people could take it the wrong way. It makes my friend laugh because it reminds her of a Kawaii Not comic of a coconut drink saying "I'm complicated... or maybe just a little fruity!"

Twinkie is also a term for the submissive in a male homosexual relationship and can be offensive in that sense.

I've been called an Otaku plenty of times, and it doesn't bother me much. I know some people don't appreciate the title, though. It has a negative history in Japan where a sting of murders was committed by this guy who had an anime cave in his home. He was given the title "the otaku killer" because of it, and the name has been stained ever since. Here in the states, though, it has a similar air as the term "Trekkie" only directed towards anime instead of Star Trek.

Ok.. I am no longer calling myself an Otaku now ono that .. that just ruins it.. ;-;

Reyoki 01-22-2012 04:17 PM

Yeah, I had no idea about the term's dark past until I bought this nifty little book titled "The Otaku Encyclopedia" and decided to look it up.

I have updated the list so far. If you see I've left anything out just let me know.

For me, I don;t really care if someone calls me an otaku, but if they use it as an offensive way, then I'll say something.

Otaku for me is much more shorter and more secret than anime lover

Alpha 01-25-2012 08:44 PM

Well, apparently a matter of opinion and pointing out a matter of just sheer courtesy can be offensive.

hyjin 01-25-2012 08:51 PM

I have to agree with this one. People do tend to be offended when you provide an opinion...

Alpha 01-25-2012 09:06 PM

They do. It is worse though when they ask for an opinion, you give it, and then they get offended.

littl3chocobo 01-25-2012 09:07 PM

well i found out what banana and coconut mean though i will still only relate the two to things that taste good XD

Poggio 01-25-2012 10:23 PM

XD I know what a cracker a banana, a coconut, a twinkie, a chino a schmuck ( though I prefer dumkophf ) and a few others are. I dont know when an Otaku became bad or a what a mick is.

Never say Nigguh it does not matter who you are and even if the culture embraces it.

Yokuutsu 01-26-2012 12:59 AM

Otaku has always been bad from the Japanese point of view.

It means obsessed which is bad no matter what you're obsessed about. Even if it would be great minus to level of obsession.

But the definition of words do change over time depending on usage.

Tiva 01-26-2012 01:27 PM
