I shall burn all my math books. . . . .>_< evil math~!

I am the manry-est of men!

Quiet Man Cometh 05-16-2012 01:52 AM

I can't bring myself to burn books. Funny though. Tear the pages out and then there's no issue.

Espy 05-16-2012 02:19 AM

Actually, I can't bring myself to actually do anything to books...even highlighting is a bit...-erk-

Quiet Man Cometh 05-16-2012 02:32 AM

I used to feel that way until I started college. Hooray for owning your own books that you my scribble all over them! I actually read Prometheus Unbound from my dad's old book on Shelley's poetry so that book now has two generations of notes in it.

Stats is really killing you isn't it?

Espy 05-16-2012 02:45 AM

Mhm. I don't get it at all. Here, lemme quote something from a chat I had with a friend...

Quote:

tbh, my brain doesn't understand stats.
I mean, see...
Calc...you can at least visualize most of it.
You know, area, slope, 3D crap, volumes, rotations, whatnot.
And it's more...abstract in a way.
Just like...algebra with a ton of variables, except...calc doesn't have that many variables.
But you kind of know what I mean?
It's like...Algebra + Geometry, but harder.
But I can understand that.
Stats, on the other hand...
It's all real-life and concrete.
There's no abstract-ed-ness whatsoever.
And I have to know which test out of eight or ten to carry out, and what's classified as what...
and what z, t, z*, t*, p, p hat, confidence intervals, and...there's something else I;m forgetting...I have to knoww hat those all are.
It's infuriating.

Mizeria 05-16-2012 02:53 AM

I was awesome at math, until I stopped taking it and then went to Calc. And then Calc kicked my poor little ass.
mostly because of the teachers' way of teaching. Cause to pass, I started from the beginning and RE-TAUGHT myself. And passed the test with flying colors.
When I needed help I went to a teacher I knew wouldn't confuse me.
I never took Stats though... I wish I could help explain it. Sometimes all you need is a new way to see it.

Thats the one good thing about math, different people see it different ways, but the end result is the same. Maybe you're learning style is different from the way you're being taught?
o.o;

Espy 05-16-2012 03:09 AM

Stats is just very...not-visual, minus the graphs....but, like...-flails-

Another thing might be the "classroom" itself. We've got 50 kids in a little theater for class. It's pretty dim in there, the teacher doesn't particularly care what you do in his class (not much, at least), the chairs are way too comfy, and there aren't any decent writing surfaces.

Mizeria 05-16-2012 03:10 AM

God I would HATE that class..

FlamingPinkDinosaurs 05-16-2012 03:30 AM

Hi there Espy do you mind if i stay and chat with you ? ^.^

Espy 05-16-2012 03:32 AM

I'm drifting between hw and Tris, so I might not reply for a while, though.

FlamingPinkDinosaurs 05-16-2012 03:35 AM

That is fine with me ^.^ so how is you ? :)

Espy 05-16-2012 03:35 AM

I'm still being really stressed out >__< -sigh- I should probably be considering heading out, now that I think about it.

Mizeria 05-16-2012 03:38 AM

-waves-

I'm here too
and well.. everywhere
xD
