Well, if Amazon could make drones work that'd be interesting. There's so many little details to automated delivery service to work out though. Like when someone's exiting their door, when no one is there to receive the mail, when the addresses are wrong, when there's a pool in the yard (and this is guessing that only houses will get this kind of service).

Delivered items don't go into the backyard in the first place, so pools won't be a problem. Drones are most likely going to just leave your package near your front door, regardless of your presence at home.

And people exiting their door -- I assume you mean that it'd be a collision hazard. Have you seen Google's self-driving car prototypes? Similar technology and programming will be used for the drones, probably, so the drone would be equipped with at least a couple cameras. Avoiding obstacles, making sharp turns, adjusting to wind speeds, etc is a piece of cake.

If the addresses are wrong...hm. I'm not sure how this would happen, if the consumer entered the correct address while making the purchase. The drones would likely be using stuff like Google Maps or a similar Amazon version, so there's very little chance for there to be an address error on the drone's side.

Also, I see you've made the assumption that only wealthy people would have access to this type of service. I don't understand why you imagine that would be the case; care to elaborate?

I mean, if it were an apartment, how would you get drones to the people? You'd need to build a communal bin or something--because windows often have these nets that don't let things in or are too small.

So wait, will these drones have camera/videotape capabilities?

And is someone manually flying them?

Apparently they're automated--since having a human flier is inconvenient.

Mistakes in record are not uncommon. I don't think most delivery services transfer such information directly.

Full automation seems like a nightmare to resolve.

I looked up some things. There are restrictions being made - certain height requirements to try to keep such incidents from happening. Seems a bigger problem is that the logistics of Amazon delivery systems are a bigger problem.

Good because it would be creepy if some guy was flying the drone and looking at my butt or something while he was flying past. O.O

If it were piloted I guess that would be possible, though I imagine you'd be at home and the pilot would just know how your door/roof/etc. looks like.

I lived in Kansas when I was a wee Katya. I remember hiding in the basement cause of the whirly storms that sucked up everything. It was very flat and got very cold in the winter. I do miss the snow.

So that is what Kansas is like. I've been wondering about that!

It's flat. Lots of farm families. My mother tells me she loved the farming communities. People were relaxed and country-like, but we lived in McPherson which in the late 80's was a smaller town. Not sure what it is like today.
