Nah, Ink is a wonderful color.

That is Ink it has a blue/purple tone to it that Basic black doesnt

ink is an alternative to black in the same way that white can be the proper white or ghost dust or the silver white. and in that same note, silver as in the silver for buckles and the like can be either the proper silver silver or the 2nd lightest in basic, just under white.
some items show the differences between them better than others, due to the way they're shaded. |
And this is why I don't trust "Basic" for white. I opt for the lightest Silver.

The problem with opting for the lightest silver, is that a lot of items that have white are actually white, and not silver. Using silver makes things weird to match.
