an actual plot is always a plus! =)

-crashes through wall- I heard decently written S&M
I honestly don't have a lot to say about paranormal romance. I find them all... kinda trite to be honest. I just -shrug- Once upon a time in a different lifetime (college) I would write paranormal romance stories for people on fiverr. It was basically all the same story but with different character details. It was incredibly boring but it paid. |
hey, getting paid for writing is always a bonus! =)
It was actually really soul sucking after a while since it wasn't really creative writing so much as writing the same script over and over again.
ugh, ok, yeah, that doesn't sound all that good.
Lol. I could just picture you saving the same basic template and just changing names and character details as needed. XD
(I know that's not really how it would work, but it's funny to picture!) Pretty cool that you got paid to write, but sad that it had to be that kind of |
I've been waiting for this. * w* I got a bunch of books to read.
List |
i added you to post #2, Crystallyn!! =)
I preferred ghostwriting to be honest. I didn't mind if someone else put their name on my work so long as I got paid. XD
If you like the Mortal Instruments you should try reading the Uglies series if you haven't already. It was a favorite for a while when I was in high school. |
Ah yes, I have fond memories of the Uglies series as well, even though I've never read Mortal Instruments.
And what's that talk about decently written S&M? So far most books I got my hands on read disappointing for me in that way, either too exaggerated, too plain, or using the S&M parts as a plot device to outlaw minor side characters. Justine by de Sade, while slightly amusing, has proved not much more but a shallow concatenation of violence, whereas Reage's Story of O left all its characters twodimensional, like a tale of endless searching yet never truly arriving anywhere. I don't blame authors, I guess it's just incredibly hard to transform one's fantasy into a captivating plot, to preserve that electric sensation which tingles down the spine and makes a person crave for more. Ironically my standards are much lower when it comes to more casual books. I've read quite a few novels I basically considered junk and yet still enjoyed reading. They were like... bad in a way that's also amusing ^^ |
some of the early Anita Blake books have well-written smut, but that's just my opinion....
also, i enjoy most of the books i read. there's like three i remember not finishing... and one that i finished but just didn't really like all that much |
I never finished Les Miserables, but that wasn't because I didn't enjoy the story - rather because the edition I got my hands on had such incredibly thin paper I always grabbed two or three pages when turning and then had to go back and separate them from each other. It became too tedious after a while.

And darnit. Bigger city, bigger library, but still no Hellbound Heart. What gives? |

I started reading yesterday! I had computer issues and had to step away from the internet, which is great because I never get off the internet. First time I ever was glad my computer quit working, I thought, well sheeet now I can read! I started with the book my sister got me for Christmas, Andrea Dworkin's memoir and I'm loving it. I told my sister "I really am relating with Andrea here" and my sister said "That's why I bought that for you." >.< Feels good. Like a real compliment.
that's awesome, Claire!
>.< I sorta thought I wouldn't get started until I got back to school at the end of the month. So I'm really happy about my computer crapping out for a day.
LOL... that's kind of a funny statement, actually XD
>.< I know, I'm practically addicted to the internet, I needed a reason to not be online to kick start my reading lol.
maybe give yourself a certain amount on time, then log off and read for another certain amount of time
>.< I have to. lmao. I think boyfriend will be happy to see me online less, too. (even though he plays video games alllll night long!!!) I quit smoking a month ago and I think my internet addiction has gotten worse over the month. I'm not good at moderation! I have to work on that!
good on you quitting smoking!
i do a lot of my crocheting while watching tv or other shows online. i do a lot of my reading during the week during breakfast (mon-thurs) and at lunch most days, and dinner on sundays. |
>.< quitting smoking has been really hard but i already feel so much healthier. oh i should read during dinner. that's a good idea.
healthier is good! i'm proud of you =D
I'm making reasonably steady progress through my book, but I told myself I wouldn't blitz it, so I'm reading only one chapter at a time.
Good luck, Quiet!
I read two more books, one was AMAZING and one was decent. Trying to decide if I want to keep my Kindle Unlimited subscription though...
Reading is another of those things that I find I need to make a little habit of doing, or I tend to drop off doing it for ages, like cooking or my daily exercises. The more often I do it, the easier it seems to be to fit into the day.
cooking. i don't do that a lot. well, at least, not complicated things anyway. XD
It's pretty simple most of the time, and I really just mess around. Crock pot cooking is easy as anything. Put stuff in and let it sit. I made some attempts to be fancy by browning the meat in the bottom before I added the broth and such, then added veggies as I got around to it, then let it sit some more.
i'm lazy.
there's also only three of us must of the time, and our younger daughter is a picky eater. i'd love to get a crockpot.... but i don't have the time to put it all together in the morning... LOL XD |
Couldn't you feasibly assemble your crockpot the night before and put it in the fridge (since most have the inner pot that fits into the heating base, but can be removed), then just pull it out and start it in the morning?
well, i had thought about that, in my thought processes about getting a crockpot. but wouldn't that mean all the ingredients are assembled, in the fridge, already put together, just... sitting. i can't explain it without it getting.... weird, misconstrued. all the ingredients are, err, sitting, soaking, uhm.
ok, say i'm making steak and potatoes... and green beans. (wow, that sounds good. okay.) i put everything in the crock pot at night - steak, potatoes, green beans, gravy. wouldn't everything be all gravy-infused and soggy in the morning? also, again, younger daughter is quite picky with what she eats, and i don't think (right now) it would work out if i did get a crockpot. maybe when she goes to college though.... |
I mean...the gravy will, presumably be in it when it cooks anyway? And since most crockpot meals have to cook anywhere between 4-10 hours, it's all going to end up gravy infused anyway?
It's sitting for hours anyway, whether it cooks or not. Though, personally, I'd avoid putting the inner pot in the fridge if I was going to cook with it later. I'd just cut and wash everything and put it back in the fridge. Then it's ready to go when I do decide to put it in a pot.
And I'm just one, but I make a big pot and freeze the extra. They do make little size crock pots though. I like it because stewing meats like chuck or round are cheaper than steak cuts. I also buy those bags of little yellow potatoes that I can just inspect and throw in. Of course, buying for just me allows that I can be a little more choosy than when I include other people. If I were to by a big bag of russets, they would just go bad. For the record, my current stew has chuck, potatoes, and green beans ;) (and carrots.) I neglected my book today. |
hmm.... i could to all the prep work the night before (cutting up things, measuring things, if need be) and throw it all in the pot in the morning. and then 9-1/2 hours later when hubby comes home, dinner's ready! yum!
ok, sold. now i gotta do some research XD |
So, I've actually been reading quite a bit lately, which has been nice! Except I always go for my heavy books, which makes it difficult to find a good position with my injured wrist...but it's not so bad.
yaay for reading, not so much on the heavy books though....
BUT THEY'RE REALLY GOOD BOOKS!
XD Lol. |
I usually only hold a large book with one hand, or just rest something on it to keep the pages open. Lap pillow? I got a pregnancy pillow when I was in hospital with my stomach tumour and it was the best thing for resting stuff on while I worked with it.
Still taking my time with my book. I like it. I don't normally read bios or those feel good things, but I find myself smiling or telling mom about something I just read. My older sister got a copy for Christmas as well, so if I don't finish it, I'll leave my copy at my mom's for her to read, and borrow her's. |
