I'm not in any hurry except I just like having friends on lists. Today I probably won't be playing anything until the French Open's finals are over. :P
Well, now that I'm exclusively playing Trinity Universe instead of flip-flopping between it and Assassin's Creed, I'll probably be on my PS3 more, at least for a while. The game seems like it's going to be fairly lengthy.
Oh, and just got to chapter 4. Yet another new battle mechanic introduced. I have to say, the battle system is pretty awesome once you unlock most of it. It seemed kind of dull in the beginning, but now that I can chain combos across characters and do Super-Awesome Anime-Cutscene EX-Release-Attack Limit-Break Special Moves (tm), it's really fun just to get into battles and see what my party is capable of. |
First some FaceBook friends and now you are making me want games again, this one sounds REALLY good. Did you figure out if the PS3 was stealing your laptop's internet still?
It seems like when I first log on to PSN it kicks my laptop offline, but if I shut my laptop and open it again, it'll connect and they'll both be able to get access. It's not that big of a problem, just an annoyance.
Also, another thing I find kind of odd about TU is just how much damage I'm doing (for being so early in the game) and how much hp the enemies have. With my whole team going all out, I'm already breaking 100,000 damage a turn with nearly 300 chained hits. And I'm only level 30, in the 4th chapter of the game. Talk about a power curve. |
Is there a picture on the back of the box touting how mch damage you can do, like Disgaea does? xD But 100k total damage at only level 30 seems like the higher damage is going to be way up there oO
No, actually, oddly enough.
And I heard people over a GameFAQs talking about postgame mages being able hit for 700k per spell and, depending on how high AP gets with later equipment... well, I can cast three spells per turns where I am right now. I wouldn't be surprised if you could cast as many as 10 by the end of the postgame. I shudder to think of how much HP those super-bosses are going to have... |
I remember the first time I played Valkyrie Provile and being amazed at the characters having 10k+ HP at level 1, and then later in the game doing 100k+ per hit with spells and the like. Then I got introduced to Disgaea later and it's sequels and it just shattered all my perceptions xD
I need Trinity Universe now just for this oO |
From the little I heard of Disgaea 4, the damage is going to be like nothing ever seen before. I think the word "quadrillion" was mentioned. :D
I'm looking forward to it. Just not the add-ons that I won't need but really REALLY want xD
I think the max damage that could be done in Disgaea 2 was "merely" 86 billion or so. I'd have to check :P |
I think the record in Disgaea 3 was a couple hundred billion. I can't imagine they'll really have it go into the quadrillions, but maybe trillions, if they bring in even more multipliers for attack power.
I can imagine the metagame being even more intense this time around too. I'm not sure I'm up to putting in a ton of hours on another one, I really want to go back to Disgaea 2 on the PSP and finish up that one and get some buffness going there ><
Oh, my. I just went on PSN to check Trinity Universe's DLC. So. Much. Stuff. And it's all so cheap! There are even a half-dozen free packs.
*starts downloading.* Not gonna buy anything yet, though. Need to do some research on the packs first. |
Yea I took a look at what was available the other night. Also for Chaos Edge ^^; But I'm not going to download anything until I actually get the games. Funny thing is that when I finally get a job and income I won't actually have time to play at all probably x.x
Well, the free stuff was mostly items and synth materials it looks like. A couple special dungeons, too, but they're level 100+ so I'll have to wait to give them a try.
I beat my first lurker today, I'm so proud of myself. :p He was level 2. 2! And he still nearly killed my level 40 party. I'm finding the best way to fight bosses in this game is to build up AP for three turns and then let loose with absolutely everything and hope it's enough to kill them. The payoff in extra damage from chaining three turns of attacks together is worth it, to me, though it requires being able to weather the enemy's attacks until I'm ready. |
Okay, a level 2 almost killing a level 40 poarty is kind of scary oO But the rewards were well worth it right?
Yeah, he was worth of ton of experience, and I got about a dozen item, though I have no idea what any of them are for. :p
And the level thing is kind of deceptive, I think. The level is whatever the dungeon's level is, and Lurkers are way stronger than all the other monsters in the dungeon, even the boss. |
It reminds me a little of the item world pirates in Disgaea. Except their levels were vastly inflated compared to the current enemies so you could tell they were going to kick your butt xD
So were you in this level 2 dingeon specifically trying to kill a lurker then? |
Yes. I came back for vengeance, as he wrecked me earlier in the game. :p
Apparently, their HP doesn't recover if you run from them and leave the dungeon, so you can whittle away at them, heal up and try again. I didn't know that until I read it online today. Would have made it a lot easier to take him down. I'm so ridiculously over-leveled for the story, now. The event dungeon I have to go is level 9. |
Oh right, the "storyline" xD I try to stay current in levels when I play the first time so that the story battles are at least a challenge. I have to admit in games with lucrative side quests and the like it's hard to do so. I'm well overpowered in White Knight Chronicles because I was soloing the online party dungeons, mostly because I dislike playing with random people.
Yeah,, honestly, in TU, the "story" dungeons are only different from random dungeons because they contain annoying cut-scenes I couldn't care less about. So, yeah... not too much incentive to progress. I tend to do five or six random dungeons for every event dungeon.
The more I learn about you the more I think you need to play Arc the Lad. At least the first two, they have a wonderfully anti-fantasy vibe to them.
I will do my best to look into those. They sound promising, from the way you describe them.
About Lurkers again. I just got wiped out by a level 9, so yeah, their level is nowhere near an indication of their power. I didn't even get a single attack off against him. It was some huge golem thing. He killed Prinny with one punch, then used some kind of earthquake attack that knocked the rest of my party into critical. I tried desperately to heal up, but couldn't get up to full, not that would have mattered as he used it again, leaving only Etna standing, then he punched her and killed her, too.
At least you don't lose your progress for dying. :p |
Okay Lurkers sound scary. Have you figured out what uses the items you got from the level 2 Lurker are used for yet?
They look like synth ingredients to me. They can't be used for anything, and they're not equipment, so that's my guess.
Can you even do synths yet? Or will that be a game mechanic opened up with the level 40 storyline area when they expect you to actually kill Lurkers? xD
I can synth stuff. One of the free DLCs actually unlocks a huge section of the synth list, though I can't make hardly any of it yet.
What strikes me is how many different ingredients there are. It seems like every item requires three unique things, which makes finding stuff in dungeons really hard to gauge how useful it is. Honestly, I don't really pay attention to the ingredients, I just look to see what lights up in the synth menu. :p |
Well as long as you don't have an inventory limit it doesn't matter, right? xD
I haven't hit one so far. If there is one, I hope it's huge, because this game seriously hands items out like candy.
Have I mentioned that they just spawn out of thin air while you're exploring dungeons? :p Every fight gives 5+ drops, too. |
I want money so I can play this game D: -sigh-
Hopefully by the time you get the money all the cheap copies won't be bought up. It seems to be pretty rare.
If only I could get someone to hire me >> Or if I could find something I could do at home at least... Bleh I hate being poor -.-
I was about to say "I doubt there's anyone who enjoys being poor," but there's probably a monk somewhere who glories in it. :p
Those vows of poverty get you every time :p I just don't want to have to rely on my roommate so much even though he says he doesn't mind taking care of me financially. It's just without a second income there's very little room for leisure spending :(
Yeah, that's understandable. I don't have any sort of income, so I don't buy games very often. My parents pay for my college and whatnot, thankfully, so when something does come along that catches my eye I usually have the money to pick it up. I tend to wait for prices to come down, though.
I do that for just about everything. My ex-roommate and I were both avid gamers so we had a list and there were certain games we did get right away. Mostly Atlus stuff because she made more than me ^^; I usually had to go for the Nippon Ichi games myself, but it all basically stopped since I moved to where I am now. Then my medical condition made me quit my job... I'm just glad my current roommate agreed to come help me out even if I feel guilty about him paying for just about everything :/
Played a little more before bed last night. Decided to forge ahead in the story, so I'm in chapter 6 now. Average dungeon level is early 20s, I'm still in the 40s. But I got a new character, and true to the Idea Factory formula, she joined at level 8, so she's dragging down my total efficiency a tad. Then again, she's replacing Prinny, so....
Oh, and I fought Flonne. She might have been tough if I wasn't 20 levels above her. As it stands, I rarely get past my first character's actions in boss fights. Granted, he's my strongest and has the most AP< but still, I want to see how much pain I can dish out with everyone giving it their all. Nothing lives long enough, though. :p I'm sure the postgame will help with that.... |
Well if a Lurker didn't wipe out your party with it's primary attack at least you know they are strong enough to take a bunch of hits, so you'll get to see what you can do the next time you fight a beatable Lurker.
I was looking at my Saturn games the other night and wondered if you've ever heard of Panzer Dragoon? |
The name sounds familiar, but I don't think I know anything about it. What's it like?
The first two were action games, basically it's a person riding a dragon, and the dragon is the last of it's kind, a genetically engineered monster. The "Empire" tries to capture it to find out how it was made but the rider helps the dragon overcome them all and do it's duty, which was to protect the world from the ancient technology which would wipe out humanity. The world setting is all pretty bleak, but you don't get much of that until the third game, which is more RPGish and has a lot of story elements that help explain the first two. Then the 4th one on Xbox 360 that I played briefly but don't have anymore. I can't say much for the action games, though they were decently made, but the RPG one was well written I thought and had a lot of good elements in it, as well as having some absolutely wonderful boss battles.
