It's correct. Nudes/naturals or small amounts of makeup make you look older. I like brasses, olives and browns.
So blue makes brown eyes pop, huh? Maybe I shall have to invest in some green or brown make up. |
like lighter browns and tan browns? would those work?
|
A good rule of thumb is to pick colours that don't show up in your eyes to make them stand out. Browns for blue eyes, blues for brown eyes, purples for greens, and pick and choose when you're hazel depending on your strongest colour hints. As someone with changeable eyes, hazel with strong hints of just about everything, I have a lot of colours in my pallets.
Tans are hard...they's super subtle, so they go well on your brow bone to open up your eyes, but you want a slightly darker brown around the actual eye. |
see, my eyes are green
and my skin is tan brown but my eyes are straight up green, not hazel so I think i could get away with some darker browns? |
you can, though I'd say pick a nice plumy purple for the lid colour, a golden brown for your brow bone, and a chocolaty brown for a light line of colour around the outter edge of your eye. Finish it off with a nice either brown or black mascara. The liner and mascara will show off your eye, the purple will make the green seem more green, and the golden brown will open your eyes up to seem larger.

haha
I don't wear mascara though but if i do use makeup i would use that, sounds good. my eyes are kind of vivid, so make up other than black is hard to choose. i rarely wear it though. but thanks. what kind of colors do you use? you said you have a wide color palette |
Ah, it's a shame you don't use mascara, it's a great way to finish off your eyes.
My colours vary on what I'm wearing, it'll change my eye colours. I have a lot of browns since my eyes turn blue quite easily. When I'm in colours that make my eyes grey I wear purples or greens. I have a lot of red in my wardrobe so I also have a lot of greys and neutral shades to not compete with them. All in all, I have a veeeeery deep makeup drawer LOL |
ha
I have a couple shades of red and blue and several eyeliners, but that's it i don't use it often, i don't think it makes my face look that good |
I'm interested to know what kind of brands the two of you use. I like Avon and Mac, but I use cheap store brands as well sometimes... XD
My eyes are a yellowy-brown, so I often just use nude colors to blend or bright purples/teals to enhance. I also neglect mascara - it's too much of a pain for me to apply it. |
I use store brands and some avon stuff. i don't really order or buy specifically for the brand. i just like the colors
|
I mainly use store brands, unless i need SERIOUS colour, then I'll go insane with Ben Nye. I have never understood the appeal of 'brand' makeups, I have never thought they gave you more/better colour. That being said, I also on a ton of Mary Kay, but as I used to work with one that's my excuse.
I bet those teals look great with golden eyes! And I'm curious how mascara is a 'pain' to apply...do you get clumps or streak on your face? There's tricks to help that are super easy. |
I order from the Avon and Mac catalogues that I buy in stores, but if I see a color I like that is inexpensive, I won't hesitate to purchase it.
I love bright colors on other people, though I don't think I could get away with them, heh heh. @Fey: I just don't have the patience for it. I have to hold my eyes a certain way so I don't get it on my face, and it makes my head and eyes hurt. It's literally a pain, though if you've got any tips I'd love to hear them! |
half the stuff i use i nicked from you, steam. well, you gave them to me. they're useful. and teal does look really good on you.
I tried puttin mascara on one time. it got in my eyes, and I don't even need it because men usually don't wear mascara. |
My favourite trick to keep it from getting on your face is to take a business card, cut a 'moon' shape out of it that fits the curve of your eye and place it under your eye. Using a disposable mascara wand(not the one in the tube) dip it in the tube, wipe off the excess along the top, then hold the wand near the middle of your 'blink' and, well, blink.
Brush the wand up to the tip and keep your eye closed for a second or two to let it dry. Open your eye, any smudges go on the card, you've no clumps because you wiped off most of the excess before applying it. Repeat on the other eye. Unless you're going for a WOW LASHES look ignore your lower lashes. If you are, then place the card under them, and just lightly use the tip of the wand to brush on some colour. If you have clumps wait for your lashes to dry and then use a clean wand to pull them out with a few strokes. And, if you need it, before you put on the mascara use a lash curler to curl up your lashes. I don't always like this step because lashes are meant to do the job of keeping things out of your eye, unless they end up looking really odd I don't curl mine. |
That's interesting. Thank you for that - I may use it! Of course, now I have to find good mascara...
|
look for stuff that claims it won't clump...it's a lie, but it tends to go on smoother at least. And I prefer waterproof...the regular stuff can smudge after a long day.
|
It's a lie. Heh.
Anything that's not waterproof tends to smudge on my face, including eyeliner or eyeshadow. I think I rub my eyes a lot. |
ah, then you need a makeup fixative. I like the Ben Nye Final Seal. It's a spray(that smells a lot like Listerine....) that you put on after your makeup is on and it'll help keep it in place even with rubbing and touching. It stings a bit due to alcohol content, but I've used it on full face makeup and daily makeup and it's great.
|
Oh, dear. Does it do anything to your skin?
|
not that I've ever noticed, but I have a pretty strict skin care regiment.... So, to be safe I'd say make sure after washing it off your face use a lotion/moisturizer that works well for your skin to negate any drying affects.
|
That's probably the best idea. I don't use a lot of moisturizers, I'm worried they'll increase the oil content of my face. I try to keep the acne at bay.
What type of moisturizers do you use? |
Ah, yes. This is why I have a strict regiment, I had terrible acne. I use an oil control lotion by Mary Kay, but I know a lot of companies make them. I wash my face with a gentle cleanser(not bar soap), use an astringent to get excess oils off, and then put on my moisturizer. Believe it or not, by moisturizing you're preventing your body from making it's own oil, so it helps a LOT against that.
|
Naturally I don't have a lot of acne, though my face tends to dry out easily. I use Proactiv to protect against the normal acne that might occur.
And I did not know that about moisturizing! That's useful, I'll use that. You know so much~! @w@ |
hung out with a mary kay lady for yeeeeeeeeeears, you learn a lot that way LOL
|
Heh. I was thinking you might be a make-up artist or saleswoman. I will now come to you with any make up questions!
|
my best friend is a makeup artist, if I have costume/theatrical questions I go to her. But no, I don't sell this stuff, I buy waaaaaaaay too much.
|
I have much more makeup then I need- and I don't even use most of it. I always stick with neutral colors as anything else looks WONKY on me.
I'm too lazy to go get it all out and check the brands. I have noticed that most makeup from, er, I can't remember what it's called. >> It's not mary kay but another magazine seller. Anyway, most of their makeup ends up being very disappointing for me. I only wear makeup when I go to work, have an interview, special occasion, stuff like that. ^^ |
I don't have any makeup at all. :'D
I really don't like taking the apply the stuff on, and I don't believe it's necessary at all as natural beauty is much more beautiful than some cosmetic crap. ^_^;; |
I only use make-up for special occasions, like parties, anniversaries or the big event, Halloween. Maybe a bit of lipstick on daily basis and powder but I don't like drowning myself in it. Like Arikana said, natural beauty is better than cosmetics products ^ ^

Does anyone here know what the shelflife is of makeup / how to tell if it's gone bad?
I found a bag of make-up in my room; dun remember when I got it. >.< |
You are SUPPOSED to get new makeup every month but from what I have noticed 1 year is the longest you should really keep it.
|
It depends on a few things, contrary to popular opinion it's rare for makeup to truely go bad.
1) is it dry or liquid makeup? ~liquid makeup can go bad faster 2) Do you store it in a cool, dark location? ~humidity and light can affect shelf life 3) Do you use clean brushes each time you use it? ~reusing brushes can build up bacteria This being said, I've had makeup for YEARS with no negative affect because I ask myself these questions and try to keep them in mind. I never store them in a humid location, I use disposable/cleanable brushes, and I rarely keep liquid makeup(excluding foundation) longer than a year. Another good way to judge is to open it and try it. If it's a dry makeup does it still come out smoothly on an applicator? If not, toss. Does it smell funny? If so, toss. |
Thank you! It's a mix of dry and liquid makeup; most of it's been unused. *don't wear it often*
|
How much makeup do you have?
A good bit, I am a mascara freak and it seems like I always end up with a lot of bottles of it, lol. I used to have very little make up, but now I have quite a few brands of it. What brands do you use? Any really. It doesn't really matter what brand people use, as long as you like it or it does the job. You don't have to spend a ton of money on certain make up when you can just go to your local drugstore or whatever and buy mascara or eyeliner for 99 cents or a dollar. I use L'Oreal, Maybelline, Covergirl, Milani, Rimmel, and recently just got into Avon since my sister is an Avon representative. How often do you wear makeup? What specifics (eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow, lipstick, etc.) do you wear? I wear make up when I go to college/work or hang out with my friends or my boyfriend, although I do not wear it all the time. I get lazy and do not put it on all the time and my friends and boyfriend have seen my natural beauty. I don't wear much makeup, maybe some foundation, powder, and mascara. When I go out on the town I wear eyeshadow to help bring out my brown eyecolor, definitely pink and purples help brown eyes stand out. I don't really have a specific perfume I like but right now I like Haiku from Avon, it smells great. <3 |
Honey, I'm a 22 year old guy and I have more makeup than that. XD
But makeup doesn't make you a woman. What on the inside does! -slaps himself for cliche- |
That is very sweet for you to say =) Makeup makes me feel womanly. I got some new eyeliner today and hopefully it's good.
|
Whatever makes you comfortable with yourself makes me happy. ^^
|
That eyeliner is crap, by the way lol. Good thing it was only $3.
|
>.>.......<.<.......
So, as an early gift to myself I just went and got $40 worth of theatrical makeup.... Ben Nye how I love your colour wheels ::hugs:: |
I wear make up only at home for myself and my partner, or if we go out together. The most I wear outside those circumstances is BB Cream and lip gloss.
My favourite brands are Etude House (only brand that has BB Cream for my skin), Bourjois and Revlon. I wear: -BB Cream instead of foundation -at times I do a light dusting of BareEscentuals -gel eyeliner -eyeshadow that can be very intense to just a light pat -lipgloss and on the rare occassion, lipstick -on hot days I use baby powder made specially for the face and cosmetic purposes -bronzer My favourite and signature perfume that fits with my natural body smell is D&G's The One. |
