"what happened to being in a hurry to get to the dryad capital?" He sighed a little. "I hope you don't think there will be some drastic change just because im near a river.. " Though he did give in and followed her towards the direction she was speaking of, though it was mainly to avoid from being knocked out again.
Dalea giggled happily when he complied with her wishes. She flew ahead of him, happily. She even did a couple loops and twirls through the air. She truely seemed to be happy by him doing things that she thought would make him happy. When she reached the river, she gasped softly at the water, then flew out over it, letting her fingers glide across the surface of the calmer water. Her hair swept out of her messy bun and unfolded behind her. The long hair went almost to her feet in soft curls.
HE shook his head a little once they got there. "there we're here.. can we go now?" Not that he thought it'd work that easily as he seemed to get a sudden glare from her. "I'm not getting in if that's what your after.. so you might as well forget it." Though to admit it he was content just listening to the sound of the running water, a sound that was long forgotten to his home.
Dalea soon came back to him and sighed. "You know, I'm going to enjoy the water. Would you like to come with?" She stripped down to her undergarments and smiled as she moved to the water. That way, she could just fly around to dry them off later.
"didn't i already answer this?" He sighed a little before even noticing she had stripped most of her clothing off. "the goddess is going to have my head before this trip is over.." For the moment he stood to his word though, he was not going into the water not if he had any say in it. Though with a fairy he knew that say meant little to nothing.
Dalea giggled and dove into the calm running waters of the river. She smiled back at him when she surfaced. "Come on, dryad. Its not like you're going to be washed away."
"my answers still the same.. " he said in a rather stale voice before crossing his arms and leaning back against a tree that was a few steps from the river's side. "i can enjoy life after i find out if im living or not." Making his apparent fear of seeing the elders of his kind be placed out in the open.
Dalea stopped swimming around and looked over at him for a minute or two. Then she swam to show and got out, walking over to him. "So, thats whats really bothering you. Do you think its healthy to be thinking that way?" She hated that he was so...pesimistic. She took his hand in both of hers and smiled up slightly at him. "Come on. What sense does this make? Whether you are punished or not, don't you think you should enjoy yourself just in case?"
He sighed slightly as she spoke, she was right but at the same time it was more then that. "whats the point, even if i go back as far as i know for these lands im one of the three thats left, the distance has grown over the years im not sure if the other two are even alive now." Having to look down for a moment he went on "it's not easy ok, i've tried for years to put the best foot forward and all but it doesn't work but for so long. Really im glad I was caught.. I was in such a state i had no idea what i was doing anymore, protecting was the last thing on my mind. Now im not even allowed to do the very thing I should be doing." He laughed slightly thinking about it, geese he was a wreck wasn't he. "aside from that i can't keep this form in the water.." Smirking slightly as he said his last words, nothing to do with the previous sentences but she did ask what was on his mind.
Dalea listened to him, then hugged him. "I'm sorry you've been through so much." She then smiled a little and let go. "What do you mean you can't keep your form in the water?" She tilted her head a little. "Will you turn into a weed or something?"
"You hardly have to say sorry, not your fault.. nor was I looking for pity." He shrugged a little. "you asked I supplied a answer." Though her next question was a little funny to him. "Hardly.. I more of meant I can't keep this cover up form in water, personally i'd rather not be in my true form in the case there are humans near here.. also known fact our true forms are hardly something to look at." He seemed dead set in one way or another to avoid the water that was certain, really he thought it was a waste of time to try and have fun or enjoy yourself when there was work to be done.
Dalea looked at him, concentrating. "I've seen dryads in many forms, many times in their true form. You cannot surprise me or scare me, if you are feeling bashful." She stood there and shivered slightly. It was a little chilly being almost naked and wet in the wind.
"not bashful.. as you put it.. i simply dislike my real form is all. Is that a problem or are you still going to insist I go into the water?" He had a feeling she was going to still try, it was a fairy after all they never gave up. Not easily anyway.
Dalea sighed heavily, then looked almost pouty. "Well, if you don't get in the water then this was all a waste of time. I was trying to cheer you up, but you seem to not want to be cheered up no matter what I do. No point in wasting my enegry on a lost cause." She was really talking to herself out loud.
He sighed finally before pushing away from the tree to stand there. "If I get in the water will you stop trying to cheer me up? I know I could be living to the fullest knowing I might not have another day but it's hard to live that way when your use to being alone, the thought of enjoying something doesn't cross your mind." He shrugged a little "in truth your the first of any being next to humans to talk to him in at least twenty years." He took a few steps before pausing another moment "but you had your warning.. my form isn't like most dryads.. " Then again he did have a few things he never told her yet
Dalea watched him curiously, then just waited for him to get into the water. She promised nothing. She just shrugged, ensuing that she might stop trying to cheer him up if he enjoyed himself this once. But, there was no garauntee of that. She truely wanted to see the 'form' that he spoke of that was different than normal dryads.
He didn't do anything like she had done when they first got here, but after the first step of touching the water the elven form faded and revealed what he spoke of. It probably explained a lot of his actions in truth. A normal dryad would be covered in bark like skin or look more like something of nature, though his form seemed to be a cross between a a dryad and a mortal being, even the dryad half seemed faint at best. The only main thing that stood out to put him among his kinds ranks was the unnatural leaf green hair and a few markings that were common to his kind.
His style of coverings changed as well to match more towards the dryads dress, even being beings of nature did not mean they had no form of dressing. "there happy?" He snapped out a little with his eyes watching her. This form was more of a curse then anything he was one of the few that was the result of a dryad having a child. Though the dryad half seemed to grow weaker with the world losing it's magic. |
Dalea watched him change, only a glint of surprise on her face. She understood why he looked that way and everything he'd done up until now. She smiled softly at him and came up to him in the water. She placed a hand softly on his cheek. "I think you are very handsome. Don't be ashamed of where you come from." She kissed his cheek softly, then dove into the water again with a teasing, almost 'come and get me' look.
"tsk fairies say the same thing to - " though he didn't get to finish his sentence as she kissed his cheek and seemed to change her expression before going into the water. He had to roll his eyes at this. "Not happening.." he said more to himself as he stood there. He knew how fairies could be at times, he wasn't about to walk into this trap. Though in the back of his mind he wanted to .. but everything else said no.
Dalea didn't think he cut off sentence was anything nice, but when he didn't follow her, she just stayed under the water. her face was bright red, being embarrased about what she'd just done. She could hold her breath for quite a long time. She'd even make an air bubble around her head if need be. She wanted to stay there until he decided to come after her. She could see his feet in the water and would know if he left.
He was going to wait her out or even retreat from the water. But after about five or so minutes of waiting he sighed finally. This did not mean she won, but if he didn't give in a little they'd be here all day. He moved a little to get into the deeper water before disappearing from site for a few seconds. He was a dryad after all.. this was a natural ability.
He emerged from the soil directly under where she was grabbing her foot for a second. If he startled her it was payback for dragging him here. He had half a mind to do something else but didn't he wasn't quite that bold. |
Dalea smiled to herself when he started coming closer to her. She moved slightly, like she was going to swim towards him, but stopped when he faded. Great where did he go now? She stiffened when something grabbed her foot, reacting with her instinct. She materialized a frozen spear and went to drive it into whatever had grabbed her. She stopped and blinked when she saw Var. She sighed and shook her head. "I could've killed you." She muttered as the spear melted back into water.
"not likely.. two things can kill a dryad, the tree they are bound to dying or fire." He shrugged a little with a slight laugh, even with her sudden reaction he didn't see phased at all. "besides if i jumped each time someone tried to kill me i'd be a nervous wreck." He had a bit of a smirk having whatever satisfaction he had gotten from that little stunt.
Dalea puffed out her cheeks, clearly irritated. It soon vanished from her face as she smirked and moved down to him. "So....why'd you follow me? Just to scare me?" She swam around him tightly, an inch from touching him.
"possible.. it worked didn't it?" He still had a rather satisfied grin from the previous actions He shrugged a little. "maybe I didn't want to be here all day and the only way to get anything done was to follow you." It was true enough as well, either way he never said if it was due to one or the other as to why he followed her. Though he was keeping his eyes on her, he wasn't sure he trusted her not with the stunt she pulled not even ten minutes ago.
Dalea soon slowed in circling him, coming behind him and placing her hands on his shoulders. She leaned over his shoulder and whispered. "I like you. That's why I kissed your cheek." She stayed there for a moment, then giggled softly. "Sorry if I surprised you, it was a spur of the moment sort of thing." She then floated away from him and watched him. "If you'd like to leave, we can. I think my objective is completed." He had enjoyed himself be surprising her, so she got what she wanted.
He flinched a little with her getting close again. He wasn't sure what she was trying to pull here, let alone by saying things like that. He quickly turned to face her though he seemed to have his guard back up by this point. "So thats what it is.. " He laughed slightly shaking his head before moving towards the surface. He wasn't going to think into her kissing or spur of the moment as she called it too much. Any other race he might question the actions a little. Either way he wasn't wanting to stay around here to let her continue this little game she was playing.
Dalea watched him rise to the surface and followed, but stopped him before he reached the top. She smiled, he hand resting gently on his chest. "Don't think I'm playing with you, I am in a way, but only want to see you smile. I am not in any way trying to mess with your feelings, whether you have them or not."
"so playing but not, thats reassuring..." he laughed weakling knowing he wasn't being serious. "dryads have feelings... they just suppress them. Our powers are affected by our feelings." He wasn't going to really take the fairies word for what she was saying, he figured she was just toying with him even if she did want him to be happy he wasn't going to go change just because it seemed to annoy her. Besides even if she was telling the truth about not really messing with him nothing could happen between a fairy and a dryad. It wasn't heard of probably some rule against it that was never voiced.
Dalea herself wasn't for rules, which was apparent in everything she did. Saving him, going with him on his journey without approval from the fairy council, even kissing him without courting wasn't allowed. She had a feeling that he didn't believe a word she'd said, which made her a little sad. "You shouldn't judge beings by what they are. Just because I'm a fairy, doesn't mean every word that comes from my mouth is a lie and a way to mess with you." She then turned and swam off, not going to the surface. She wanted to be alone to sulk, but she wasn't going to let him leave her behind.
"never said I thought that way... we'll just say im untrusting of fairies... to be fair your the first that has bothered to try and help in the least." Though he doubted anything he said was going to change her current mood as she seemed to swim off. He sighed a little before walking over to the tree he was leaning against before and placed a hand on it. "so whats your tale then.. " Figuring he had time to kill, leaving her would only cause him trouble if she managed to catch up again so he wasn't going to bother.
A soft green light seemed to form under his palm on the tree before it swirled a few times around the trunk. The leaves even seemed to take on a lighted effect from his question and touch. He wanted to know where the owner of this grove was or rather what had happened. |
Dalea soon got over her moodiness. She looked around and didn't see him in the water. She thought he left, so she swam to the surface, but only breaking the surface to her eyes. She watched him with the tree, wondering what he was doing. Then she smiled to herself. He was talking to it, sort of. She ended up on her hands and knees in the water, still only her eyes and top of her head above the water.
"you know... your bad at trying to creep up on someone.. " He sad still keeping his eyes closed before he took his hand from the tree and any glow the tree had taken faded instantly with it. "Not that I had to ask it what had happened.. I knew the answer." He never said what he had gotten from the tree though, but it was probably a good guess humans were the cause of this groves keeper being lost as well. "yet.. even without a guardian it seems content." he shrugged a little. Maybe dryads weren't needed anymore, not if saplings were starting to become strong enough to sprout without help and the lost groves were content with their lives even with the danger of humans so close.
Dalea puffed out her cheeks and just sat up in the water. She tilted her head as she listened to his words. They were sort of depressed sounding to her. She waved him over to her after a couple minutes. "Sit down, please. I want to talk to you."
"I have to sit to talk?" He shrugged though figuring he might as well, before she decided she was tired of his mouth and shot him again. He did what she asked him to sitting near the water's edge where she was at. He could take a few guesses at what she wanted to talk about, and he could also choose not to reply back to any of it.
Dalea was happy that came and at least sat by her. "Well...I don't really have important questions. They're more...curious thoughts of mine." She looked over and up at him. Even sitting he was still taller than her. "What will you do when you reach this dryad capital?"
That was a heck of a question either way though he did have a little bit of a idea as far as what he needed to do if he even made it there. "three things, hope they don't kill me for being a half breed, hope they don't kill me for breaking at least 20 of the 100 so vows of nature.. if that all goes well try to learn some of the forgotten knowledge to my kind, if anywhere has it then the capital with the elders would." He seemed to think on his answer a little before speaking again. "good enough answer for you? cause I don't have a better one, and the only way to be pardoned of any of my action let alone leaving the very forest I'm suppose to protect.. not that i had a choice in leaving now did i."
Dalea looked at her knees at the last of his words. "I am sorry. I truely only attacked out of reflex. I wanted to ask what you were doing, if you'd done that out of defense or malice, but I couldn't know that you wouldn't attack me first." Her whole body seemed to eb with the feeling that she was truely sorry. She only glanced up at him, sadness in her eyes. "What happens if they decide to sentence you to death?"
"you don't have to be sorry, really in that state i probably would have attacked you. Truth be told I had no reason for killing that group. It was in spite of all the others i had let live after their crimes on the forest." To admit that aloud he wasn't really proud of it, but it was the truth either way. It was already past and done nothing he did or said could bring the ones he killed back nor could it heal the damage already done. "You were probably better off attacking first heh.." He shrugged a little knowing it was probably true, he wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between a fairy and human if he wanted to then.
"well... then i guess you go back home? I can't stop them, even if i ran away from the capital that won't stop any of the elder dryads.. I think you know of their powers if your one of the higher ranked fairy houses." Truth be told if they really wanted him death it would have happened already though they might not even be paying attention, for all he knew the capital was in wastes and there were no elders left. Though that seemed unlikely. "What am i suppose to say to that really? I mean if they choose it then theres little to nothing I have to say in the matter, the same would be true for your kind as well." |
Dalea blinked at him, sort of getting upset. "You can't just give in like that....you...you can't just roll over and let them rip out your guts because they tell you to!" She shot up on to her feet and was shaking with rage. She'd known someone she cared for deeply who'd done that, because it would save her reputation. She looked down at him, anger anddisbelief on her face. "I can't let that happen. If you'd let them kill you, I'd rip them apart with my bare hands. Don't think I couldn't either...I'd..." She suddenly went quiet, looking like she couldn't breathe from her rage. She soon took a shaky breath, then fell to her knees once more.
