Well, I've only seen the trailer today, and while I don't remember the old Sailor Moon anime too much (I remember watching it practically every time it was on when I was little though)I have to say... that new new animation style doesn't exactly thrill me... I actually dislike it qute a bit. It almost seemed like the hair was drawn in one style and the rest of the character in a completely different one... this generally annoys me... If you're going to draw the character with black outlines, please do it to the hair as well...
Well, I guess there are people that like this style and good for them but, personally, I'm really not a fan of it... |
The new art style is closer to the way Sailor Moon was originally drawn in the manga, that's why a lot of people are for it. It's not only the story that follows the manga, but the art as well. x3

I am so happy for Crystal! ...and so sad that even on lowest quality, my wifi leaves me with lots of buffering and occasional 'net loss during the attempts to watch. I think I got all the way through five episodes though.
|
I hate buffering. Everytime my CR app on the Bluray player does that I want to stab my modem. I need to get a new one, this one's dying.
I can't wait for next saturday! >x< Even though I know what happens next, I hate cliffhangers. |
I need to look up the new series, I want to see if they made any changes to the plot. XD Are you able to find it in Subs or Dubs though? (prefers subs)
|
Sailor Moon Crystal is all Subtitles right now. =) The dubs won't be coming out for a while yet I don't think. You can watch it off Crunchyroll or Hulu.
The plot is following the manga pretty close. So different from the 1992 anime which is nice. Mamoru is a High School Student <3 Looks awesome in his Uniform <3 Episode 9 Aired today. =) The only thing people have problems with are the Eyes, and the Transformation Scenes |
Wait, in the old one he was a college student dating Usagi while she was in middle school. o.O I guess it was what girls were going for back then or something? But its awesome we get to see him in a uniform now!~♥
|
I have mixed feelings about the new series. I'm glad it is closer to the manga, but there are things I really dislike: the transformations - especially Usagi's, the quality, and the girls who don't look like they are 14 years old.
I still hope little girls would like the anime, after all they are the real public here! :) |
Yeah, someone had shown me the transformation sequence and I thought it was for a video game and not the show. o.O That's going to have to take some getting used to. ^^;
|
Quote:
My only problems are the transformation scenes xD 9 episodes and I'm still not use to it.. that and I always hated the repetitive transformations anyway. =w=, they get old after so long. ML: When I read the manga i was super shocked to find out he was a high school boy! I was like "But! he was a collage student in the anime D8 and had classes with the arcade onii-san dude! (andrew was his english name.. matoki his japanese name i think.. i don't see him enough to remember his name xD) I hope they make ALL of the arcs! I want to see the REAL ending! x3 |
Yeah, I'm surprised too. XD I hope they do all the arches as well, and stick to the manga as much as possible. XD
|
Since Jedite didn't die when he was supposed to (well turn into a rock) I wonder what the animators will do with those 4.. -wiggles- TWO WEEKS IS TOO LONG FOR THE NEXT EPISODE Dx
|
lol, eager beaver I see. XD
|
It kills me to wait 1 week for Conan, Fairy Tail, Kaito 1412, and Yowapeda ;-; 2 weeks for sailor moon murders me
|
lol, good thing I have mood swings with my shows. XD
|
^^, right now I'm watching finished series.. i'm SLOWLY watching them.. and watching Folktales from Japan in between when ever I don't feel like watching something with a serious plot.
|
lol, something to past the time at least. XD
|
The Folktales are funny.. boys peeing on priests head.
old women naming her kids the japanese version of 'happy, wonderful, and greatful' and then when her hubby dies she runs outside calling their names and saying papa is dead.. took the villagers a few minutes to realize she was calling for her kids xD |
x'D
That not very good naming on their part. XD |
xD the story was pretty funny.. i mean the woman was old.. like in her 80s when she finally had her 3 boys o-o,
oh and there was the episode where the priest told this boy to be obediant and honest.. so the boy was.. right down to listening to the priest when he told the boy "if anything else drops off this horse you HAVE to pick it up!" and so using the priests umbrella, when the horse starting pooping, the kid caught the poop in the umbrella xD |
x'D
At least he did what he was told. XD |
I've been enjoying Sailor Moon Crystal so much since it's following the manga pretty closely. My biggest compliant is also the transformation. They tried so hard to make it look good but it looks like they used a 3d modeling system instead of just drawing it. Which would have cost time and money but at least it wouldn't look so awkward since the rest of the show is drawn. As for making Mamoru younger I agree with it. I'm a tad sad that he's not friends Andrew (the arcade worker) but I think making him younger was necessary. Either that or making the girls older, and when you look it that way it's easier to make Mamoru younger. Also something I noticed related to this is shows and movies that were made in early 90s show girls dating older men. Which I found kind of odd but maybe it was more lax back then? I watched Clueless a week or so ago and Cher was taking about how high school boys are too immature and wanted a college boy, when she was only 16 herself. While I view age as just a number now-a-days, I do wonder about it when I hear or see big age gaps. It also becomes more of a concern depending on the age of the people in the couple as well. You might not see anything wrong with a couple where one is 30 and the other is 40 but if it was like 14 and 24, you'd think the 24 year old was a pedophile. Overall I think they're doing a great job with Crystal and I hope they realize how much we would like it to be dubbed in the future (even though I like the subs) and continued on to follow other series such as R and S, etc. |
I think dating or marriage comes with maturity and partly your own age. You can date anyone at any age once your 18, and that a 2-3 age gap for anyone younger then that is acceptable. (3 is really pushing it, but it depends.)
I don't bat an eye if a 20 something married a 40 or 50 something. I find it unusual but quite frankly I don't care, even if it's someone I know. Unless she is 17 or younger then that's out of the question because there is something very wrong if a guy is dating someone that young. Love is love, but it's full of double standards in terms of what's viewed as acceptable or not by society. So it's all based on your preference and personally trying to protect someone until they are old enough so they can choose their own decisions. I believe the change in Sailor Moon was more with society and personal belief, that and they don't want a bunch of High School girls dating older men in order to try and protect them a bit from finding terrible older men. This is a KIDS show, my sister is 13 and she keeps wanting to date older guys until I step in, I don't need shows that boast older relationships like this to be her "evidence" until she is 18 I want to know the boy, make sure he has no devious thoughts, and hope at least there's a 2 year age difference. |
I'm the same why Illusion. XD
|
Well yeah, that was my point, Illusion. I think they changed Mamoru's age for that purpose. To be honest, when I was younger I didn't really think about the fact that Usagi was middle schooler and Mamoru was in college. But now that I'm older I actually understand the age gap. Either way, times have changed and younger kids seem to be more involved in things that when I was younger only older kids understood. I'm glad they made the change to make him younger. |
But I also think that its good they are keeping closer to the manga as well, anime tends to diverge from the mangas a lot from what I've seen.
|
I just wanna know the plans for the Shitennou *u* Why did they keep Jedite alive! -flails-

Also Sailor Moon was never intended for 'Kids' it's directed to Teenagers. =p Even the manga says T: Ages 13+ (remember once they hit 13 they aren't kids any more they are teenagers) |
That's the usual misconception about shows that are put on for 'kids'. Another example where something like this happened was Tokyo Mew Mew, which in the US was called MewMew Power. There were actually scenes cut out of the show and replaced, like parts of the transformation scenes. Not to mention if you watched the original show in sub titles the original script included swear words and such while in America all that was cut out. Same thing with One Piece, Pokemon (yes, that did get edited to fit American standards), Yugioh, Voltron (Go Go Lion) and many more. Most of the shows America sees that are 'kids' shows that are from Japan were not actually meant for 'kids' but teenagers. There are even some cases where mature rated stuff in Japan was modified to make it teen rated (I think Dragonball was one of these but not sure). Sailor Moon falls into this as well, which is why I want to watch the sub titled one instead of the dubbed one. Not to mention that there were several things cut from the original anime when it was brought over to America, one of them contained a scene where you can see Usagi's bare stomach because her uniform top is not long enough while talking to a friend, but part of that conversation was cut out.
|
Tokyo Mew Mew! "<(>w<)>"
I had the Subbed version downloaded but the hard drive crashed. But between them changing character names to americanize things, and cutting scenes they deem 'inappropriate' .. those are the main reasons I watch Fansubs. If they'd stick with the age group the show was meant for they wouldn't need to cut stuff out. =/ With sailor moon 1992 anime, What I hated the most were the Gender changes of Zoicite and Fish Eye, and Uranus and Neptunes relationship cover ups. Well.. Viz is RE-Dubbing ALL 200 episodes. names, places, genders, and relationships.. they will ALL stay in the new Dub, nothing gets changed. So i'm willing to watch the new dub of the 1992 anime. And the same voice actors will be doing the same rolls in the Crystal Dubs as well. (from a promo video, the even add 'MAKE UP!' to their transformation shout! the original dub didn't have that <3) |
OMG! That's so awesome! XD I want to get that when it comes out. XD So wait, is the new one in dub being Americanized or are they keeping that as the original as well?
|
It's keeping all its originality too.
So, Hulu no longer has the new dub of the 1992 sailor moon but I found it on: http://www.dubzonline.org/sailor-moo...1-english-dub/ I'm not impressed with the voice acting. They all sound like Amateurs xD but I guess since the anime is from 1992 the voice acting needs to sound like it's from that time. I still want the bluray disks.. they come out this month, but I'm gonna ask for them for xmas. *-* Bad acting or not. |
lol, I already gave my dad my wish list, so I can't really ask him for it now. x'D My birthday is in less than a month. ^^;
